I can still remember the day I bought this album right after it was released, and dropped the needle in the groove. I was 17 years old and the future looked bright as hell. Little did we know how it was really going to be...
Man, back when I was 17 the future was so bright I had to wear shades (yeah-cheesy reference). These days, man... It's music like this that keeps me going. Because it's a messed up crapshot.
Well, the future was never that bright, but it was certainly brighter then than now... And these guys, Manfred Mann, Billy Joel etc, after the Beatles and the Stones, gave us hope. They lifted mountains - now flattened and hopeless, I agree.
There was so much excellent Pop Music around in 1978 and 79. This here is one of the best examples - I was 14 then and got caught from the first note. We had Sniff'n' the Tears ("Driver's seat"), we had Christopher Cross ("Ride like the wind"), we had Peter Gabriel and Alan Parson's to dance to, we had Tangerine Dreams's "Cloudburst Flight", we had the second wave of British metal. It was such a privilege to grow up in this era - this sort of Music has become a lost art.
Without being nostalgic - because time inevitably passes - I agree with you, and I see in the revival of many songs from this era the proof that many young people recognize this golden age. Which doesn't exclude the value of today's music, of course.
I was on the rare occasion to be in a bar with 3 other sound engineers plus myself and asked everyone to write down on a cocktail napkin what they all thought was the best live recording and we all 4 agreed that this was it ! No need to say anything else. Chet the chicken man / soundman 🐓🎼
@@chetutterback5811 Well, they would be the best critics. But yes, Manfred Mann was certainly on top of his music knowledge. My favorite album of his came out in 1979 my senior year in high school (Angel Station) another work of art.
I agree in 2/3. In my opinion, the interlude from 2:15 to 4:57 totally ruined the masterpiece. Makes in just insufferable. But I fixed it my own way by simply cutting out those 2:42 of jazzy crap. ;)
@@toreeriksson6117 I have to strongly oppose your opinion, this middle part is the best of it, sounding similiar to Deep Purple (being meant as a quality mark)
Some tunes are so well written and performed they become legendary, anthems of an era, eternal reflections of divine providence, or simply put ... awesome. This is one of those tunes. It will live forever. While all the B tracks fade to dust the classics bear the torch of the greatest musicality known to humanity.
Great album, yes, and a scathing, hair-raising version of Dylan's Mighty Quinn - and at the same time completely faithful to the original, how does he do it? No matter: the best of M.M's Earth band is here!
EPIC, Especially the intermezzo, midplay, 2.15 - 5.00. I was just a little child first time I heard it, and I was 'blown away' and at some point it was as if I had an OBE.
Everybody's building ships and boats Some are building monuments Others jotting down notes Everybody's in despair Every girl and boy But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here Everybody's gonna jump for joy Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Let me do what I wanna do, I like my sugar sweet But jumping queues and making haste It ain't my cup of meat Everyone's beneath the trees feeding pigeons on a limb But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here All the pigeons gonna run to him Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Let me do what I wanna do, I like my sugar sweet But jumping queues and making haste Ain't my cup of meat Nobody can get no sleep, there's someone on everyone's toes But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here Everybody's gonna want to doze Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn [repeat to fade]
Nope, it's still Manfred Mann. Just a re-imagined version of the late 60s original. Like buddy said, if you want the original just search up the Manfred Mann version without the "Earth Band" (Chris Thompson is singing this version, the original was Manfred Mann himself)
Still MisInformed... Bob Dylan would be the Original singer...AND the Origin of the Song itself, Not Manfred, who did the song Entirely Better than Robert Allen (Zimmerman) Dylan
Chris Thompson you legend!
Love this version of Mighty Quinn.....better than the other.....but with the same group! God bless you!
God bless Manfred Manns Earthband in their coming music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Youll not see nothin like the mighty quin.
This version of the song gives me a vibe that I can't find or articulate anywhere else. It's like everything is clear, calm and happy.
Such a classic rock song. It's 2023, an' I am still getting down to Quinn the Eskimo.
Me too ❤
Manfred Mann's Earth Band.
Thanx for all.

I have waiting for this version for a long time 🎉 super
Great music!
"Mighty Quinn" - the most appropriate "mighty" version of the SONG!!!
Je suis d'accord
The best version!❤
By far 👍.
This probably is the best version of a live recording. Great stuff

Not probably, this, of all of the versions that I've heard is "definitely " the best by far (in my opinion of course) .
👍👍
Great album. Grew up listening to this classic everynow and then. This kind of music lives from generation to generation.
This is a classic! Organ intro, heavy guitar riffs, and crazy synth interlude in the middle

This rocks, far better than the single version.
Not at all.
Great track from a great album - particularly the track called California.

I also love the cover of the album - so symbolic. Man on the runway going to take off.

absolutely Mantastic love MMEB especially with Chris on vocals
I remember the Greatest Hits album I got at Barnes and Noble’s when I was like 6-7.
Fantastic version. Saw the band a couple of years ago. They are still playing this number
Thanks from Germany 🇩🇪🎹🎤🎵
I was today old when I learned Manford Mann and, later MM and the Roaring Earth Band, did this song!! 😮🙂
Reminds me of my youth... goosebumps! Thank you so much for uploading!
Yeah that live version from Budapest is one of the great recordings of this song.
Simply perfect.
Love this song so much
Thank you :)

It ain't my cup of meat

Come all without, come all within

Mighty Quinn
In 1969 it was Manfred Mann without the Earth Band!
And the original is from Bob Dylan 🙂
