Awesome video man! Big Frazetta fan here, I keep meaning to study from his books that I have collected, it's on the to do list, so this is very motivating to see! - I have been so tempted by the big Frazetta book, but I wasn't sure if it was easy enough to study from? I sometimes find huge hard back books like this, whilst very beautiful, quite difficult to use conveniently, if that makes sense? Especially if the binding doesn't always allow the pages to lay flat without causing damage to the spine etc. Would love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the good work
Thank you Ste! The book is really big so it's one to keep at home. But the pages open up flat and the print is premium, so it's a pleasure to study from. If space allows i definitely recommend it
Great video! I appreciate the note of real life reference being better than looking online, too many choices can lead you to wasting your time endlessly scrolling for that "perfect image" to use, when you could just start learning with the first good image you see! Also, I'm surprised why you don't have more views and subscribers, your videos are very high quality! Keep it up and I'm sure the RUclips algorithm will push you to more people!
@@massa_art I'd say you're wrong to assume all artists use reference. I've worked in the creative field for over twenty years and rarely need reference. Most artists are honest, and own up to using reference when they use it. Frazetta obviously had difficulty in that department. He was trying to make himself out to be something he wasn't. He claimed he worked 100% without reference, so the question of how he used reference doesn't even come into it. His stuffs gone anyway-no time for fakers.
Hey bro! Just came across your channel and love these challenges and the fun way you go about practicing and improving. If you’re interested i thought it could be fun to do a collab - like a week challenge that we each do and then see how we approached it differently and talk about it at the end etc. Let me know if that sounds fun to ya!
I just visited Frazetta's museum in East Stroudsburg, Pa. Great time.
I'll need to plan a trip some day
amazingly said :) Frazetta was so good !
I'm so surprised there's not a lot of videos about him!

My favourite artist.
Nice! I was thinking of doing one on Karl Kopinsky maybe next, any other ones you'd like?
only had a couple of books by this artist, but found out he lied about not using reference and threw them in the trash..
I think all artists use references, the difficulty is in using it to inform your design rather than to copy it as is

I'll check out your work! Thanks for reaching out :-)
hey remember that , galaxy effect that y do in frazetta episode? i wonder how did y did it ?
i used alcohol based markers for that (i use Ohuhu) i get 3 or 4 different shades and layer them from dark to light, being rough on the edges
When did you start drawing?
I drew a lot when i was a kid all the way up to middle school, then i stopped for like 15 years and decided to start again this year :)
your book cost 500 usd?????
No wayy less! but it would deserve a higher tag for sure!
@@massa_art Yeah, but it is very expensive)))
