- Finally, a new video in a long while. After a break, I am finally back to making videos again. Dagoth Ur is presenting a Skyrim Guard Tier List! Dagoth Ur Helps you decide which guards are the best. Yes, the Skyrim Hold Guards, believe it or not have their own Tier List, and Dagoth is ready to rank these Nords one by one. He has strong opinions about the guards in Skyrim. He goes over all of the nine Skyrim holds, including Whiterun, Winterhold, Windhelm, Falkreath, Dawnstar, Markarth, Riften and other places. Overall he is is not happy with these guards, especially not with Markarth or Riften. Also, there are quite a few arrow-to-the-knee references in this video. It's an old meme, but still as relevant as ever.

Fun fact, Nerivar, the Winterhold guards in town actually all sport steel shields, not the Winterhold Guard’s shield, making them a rarity. The only ones that can be found sporting this shield are the ones out patrolling roads in the Province. So although they can statistically block a bit more damage, it’s still due to a mistake by the N’wahs at Bethesda Games Studio, D tier.
These Tier lists, regardless of the context truly make my day.

What I learned today that most of these guard wear a quilted vest or a scaled vest with a chain mail shirt underneath, with fur gauntlet and boots. By the way welcome, Dagoth.

Perhaps you could create a new tier list, A-C, and then a tiered D tier, DA-DD, so we can see more clearly how the guards compare to one another

It's actually pretty confusing during the battle of Whiterun.
@@spooko3991even worse if you use the open civil war mod, attacking Falkreath with the Stormcloaks is extremely confusing. Whole first wave of troops is just blue guards vs blue guards.
But yeah, it is very disappointing they decided to give Stormcloaks just guard armor, especially when stormcloak officers are actually dressed very cool. They should’ve continued the officer’s theme with furs for the soldiers.
I don't know Dagorh, every other time I go to Dawnstar, a Frost Dragon and starts attackin, not only do the Pale hold guards help deal with the dragon with archery skills that could make a Wood Elf jealous, but they tank like 4 to 5 frost breath attacks like it's nothing, ye I know Nords have frost resistance but those Whiterun guards could barely handle one fire attack from the weakest dragon.
I love that Dagoth Ur took the time to explain the details of their armor despite pretty much identical.
The problem is, as seen when playing the Dark Brotherhood quest line. Literally every fucking guard in Skyrim is a worshiper of Sithis if you talk to them enough.

Me at level 10 - Cancels out Dawnguard recruitment speech as to keep major quest list clean.
Me 10 seconds later - Resisting urge to kill on the spot the guard that talks about Dawnguard which puts the quest in the main quest list.
Frankly I'm disappointed with Dagoth. He was too lenient. All guards should be Shouted Off The Top Of The Mountain Tier .

I wonder, would the guards in Oblivion fare any better? I'd have to say yes, yes they would. Hear me out on this one, Lord Dagoth.
While the many guards of Cyrodiil are essentially the same and effectively these dummies that walk around town talking to each other or chatting up random civilians, they get the benefit of sporting unique cuirasses for their respective cities. Also the Imperial City has guards sporting Imperial Legion armor and look like they would supplex you through a wall if you commit a crime. Also they are a hivemind and can tell if you are a wanted fugitive from a city on the opposite end of the province.
I would also say that the Bruma guard are full of enthusiasm to fight for their city even if they are incompetent, and the last of the Kvatch guard are also reasonably hearty even if they are about as competent as a Slaughterfish out of water.
Damnit Dagoth Ur, when will we see an Oblivion Guard tier list!?

there's a stormcloack overhaul mod called sons of skyrim that gives the guards unique armor if tired of seeing the same armor reused over and over again

Solstheim guards are definitely S tier.
Lord Dagoth; I dont know if you were aware of this, but the hold guards will actually level indefinitely with the Dragonborn. Granted they level as basic warriors; but it still means that, theoretically, at a high enough level they could still hold their own against a dragon.
Thank you, great Dagoth Ur, for putting Markarth guards in D tier. For if you didn't - I would have came to you with fire and war and died fighting the heart and Akulakhan.
The reason whiteout guards are so good is because they were trained by a dunmer.

Damn, if Lord Dagoth hadn't pointed out the differences between the guards' armors, I would never have noticed them.
Honestly, you have to respect winterhold gaurds. Yes, they're barely defending anything, but thats just it. Those like 4 gaurds protect ALL of winterhold's residents from the incredibly dangerous creatures in the nearby tundra's, while getting to stay in a town consisting of the jarls house, a shop, and an inn as their reward.
Oh lord Dagoth, please rank the radio DJs of Fallout.
I would have given Winterhold guards S tier. Why? While they are useless, as all Nords are, at least they have the decency not to get in your way. I've had entire playthroughs before I first realized they even exist. I mean, if someone is useless, you would expect them at least not to get in your way and that's exactly what Winterhold guards do.
I like to think they look at the Dragonborn in full Deadric and go:
"Way above my pay grade."
i feel like winterhold should have been f tier how the hell are they supposed to exist in a place thats barely big enough for a village when there is a college for mages that is about as big as whiterun

Riften and Markarth D tier, Whiterun B tier, everyone else C tier
The Dawnstar guards actually know about the door. They will comment about how many people were moving in and out of there, they seem to know its the DB. But are just too scared to consider it more than terrible rumor.
It’s like the same armorsmith is selling every guard the same armor set and in turn is profiting off the imperial VS stormcloak war 😂
These guards do not honour the sixth dunmer quarter and bribe unmourned..

I actually like that the guards all have different reactions and treat you differently, instead of every guard universally having the exact same opinion of you like some sort of hive mind

Dagoth Ur, you forgot to rate your own people that are the Redoran Guard from the Dragonborn expansion.
The lack of armor variation is one of the biggest flaws of the game.
Play Mount and Blade. Each faction has their own armor. Play Skyrim. It's all the same. AND the guards look like stormcloaks.
"Bandits in guard armor" is the best description of Markarth guards ever.
And another point. Morrowind guard tier list from lowest to best:
- Skaal guards (F) - dumber than normal nords ergo below (F) tier. Again that armor though. Idk why did they give them some untreaded hides in Dragonborn DLC.
- Imperial Guards (D) - They're Imperials. Do I need to say more? They're even the weakest. Their gigachad leveled buddies at Imperial City cringe to sleep everyday thinking that they're in the same faction. At least they can read and write AND some of them can even recite mediocre poetry. Somehow they-re the most fleshed-out ones in this list.
- Hlaalu Guards (C) - The're guarding the sellout House towns. C for disgraCe. Also in my drunk headcanon (so just canon) they're really corrupt being a hlaalu and stuff. They're not D because dem Warhammer-style pauldrons man...
- Mournhold Palace Guards (C) - They guard n'wah (I have to use that word, sorry) king and his court. Not much to say about them other than Karrod absorbing strikes from daedra-soul infused magical blade, made form blood of dead god, and not even batting an eye. What a terachad.
Basedness and real Velothii gang below:
- Redoran Guard (B) - I'll ignore the fact that they singlehandedly stopped an invasion form multi-dimensional tree sap buffed mayan crocodiles (just after Red Year hit their home) and focus just on Morrowind. Despite being a true Dunmer from a true Morrowind, they somehow haven't detected that someone was importing illegal Ash Statues and giving everyone around a headache. (Trib Temple questline iirc). They often deploy female troopers if you care about that stuff.
- Telvanii Wizards (B) - idk why they even exist if they don't protect their own wizard-lords. But they can summon bonewalkers, which scared the shit out of me when I tried to pay tough as a kid.
- Vivec Ordinators (B) - luv them, just from the fact that you can get their best medium armor in game for free in Koghurun and from the fact that they also have female guards, made specifically to boss my outlander buttocks around. mmm mommy
- Mournhold Ordinators (S) - These guys are the reason why all crime in CoLCoM (city of light, city of magic) moved to the underground. Tbh I would pay gold to deal with Palace Guards rather than Ordinators, simply because of how terryfing the later are. And don't even get me started on Her Hands and Salas Valor. I admire Argonians who sacked Almalexia if they had to deal with these petrachads.
All of above is a work of fiction shared under freeware license (that means I wouldn't mind if you ranked morrowind hold guards in some of your next videos). Cheerio, I'm going bak to yelling at geckos that escaped form slatrice fields.
Skyrim Guards, AKA, Quicksave Victims.
Anytime I get bored in Skyrim, I go to a city, use the Storm Shout, and fight everything that moves until I'm bored of that. Fun times.
[racist rant] Another point. I hate how people that side with Dunmer say that Dunmeri are discriminated. You can't discriminate somebody whose even his own land and gods, not to mention other Dunmer (if he's with slightly different house than him) hate him. Doubt the real Dunmer would be some would be some sissy crying about getting yelled at by a hobo and his even drunkier buddy. Those Dark Elves in Windhelm are just outlanders (soft name for n'wahs). THE REAL Dagoth Ur wouldn't say "discrimination" of Dunmers, he woud say "profanation" of Dunmeri name.

Dark Brotherhood hideout next door vs Morag Tong quarters inside fucking Vivec city kanton waistwork, forget which one exactly. Come on daddy Dagoth, nords ain't that bad. I'll just ignore the fact that Morag Tong is 100% legal if you have the papers.
I would really like it if, for whatever reason, you were able to wipe cities off the map.
Like, as Dagoth pointed out, you can easily defeat the population of guards in cities like Falkreath, Morthal, Winterhold and Dawnstar.
And since you're the allmighty dragonborn, it'd make sense. If only they added a few dialogue lines here and there between merchants or travelers: "did you hear? Someone destroyed the city of..." and boom. Immersion.
Of course you'd lock yourself out of quests related to that town, but still. It would add a lot to the actual feel of power of the dragonborn

What about Solstheim Raven Rock guards (granted I'm definitely expecting nothing less than B due to them being exclusively Dunmer but still)

Well you can actually enter Rifton by entering the backdoor of the Black Briar brewery which is located outside of Rifton where also the Fishery is. There are no Guards blocking the entrance and it has to be daytime as at night it is closed.
All of these guards truly live in a grand and intoxicating delusion.

@@ZakeandZach Yep. During the quest where the first dragon shows up near Whiterun, we do see that she's the one in charge of the city guards.
@@BroadwayRonMexiconot true actually, Commander Caius is in charge of the guards. Irileth is a housecarl and simply relaying orders from the Jarl.
To quote the guy himself, “I'm the commander of the guard here in Whiterun”

Well uniformity in a soldier/police regiment (Guard regiments included) is a form of professionalism and quality standards.
If all the guards had differing helms, armour and aesthetics, it would clearly indicate that these entities are underfunded, disreputable and potentially untrustworthy.
Would you trust a guard outfit who's armour is just as diverse as the bandits roaming around the province?
Thus the guard outfit/armour of vanilla Skyrim is actually perfect.

It's true. I had to add several mods to shape them up. Now they are more observant, have better weapons, some of them are stronger, there are more of them and I got rid of those awful helmets.
