I did the challenge where you go to a place with a lot of people and try to draw them with gesture drawings. As they were moving all the time it was really hard, but in one hour I filled up 4 pages of my sketchbook, by the end I could see the improvement right away in certain pieces of the body, how your brain keeps getting these hints and incorporating in the figures, its a great exercise, tks for the tip!
It depends on what you define your gesture as ….. gesture is rhythm , rhythm in the form of dynamic stick figure or forms . Because of this stereotype process that made it difficult for me to move from those stick to a complete figure ( understanding the concept is more important that how you approach your gesture drawing)
I hate being a perfectionist! I spent over 30 mins with just one pose gah! Glad I came to this video to know I didn't have to do it exactly perfect. I will see how the next one goes. Thanks for the video!
The key is repetition. do the same drawing/study of the one gesture 10-15 times. Take your time with the first few and then test yourself by doing it faster and at times without the reference. Repetition is how the brain learns. If you do one drawing of a gesture and move on to the next to the next, etc. you wont really learn much at all coz you never really studied any of them properly. Repetition! Youll see after a few that youll get noticeably better and better and things will actually register.

Well I'm learning, but if you repeat the pose over and over, you can get faster. With this, you can also develop style as you make your own adjustment.

Some instructors stress economy and efficiency of line, castigating students for "scratchy", "hairy" or "timid" lines and figures, while other see this method as loose and free, expressing motion and finding a best line. Practice both, to widen your technique and to prepare for instructors' idiosyncrasies.
Yeah... I was confused because what I've been learning is to use as few lines as possible to express the figure, and bold, smooth, longer strokes. I understand now that it's based more on the individual artist's preferences ans interpretation. However, I still feel lost as to what I'm supposed to do-
I have a question. What is a good way to map out a pose in which a figure is jumping at you? Kind of like a super hero flying pose with an aerial shot.

I think you should do some practice and give it a try. For years and i mean YEARS I've completely ignored gesture, anatomy and whatever art teachers had to tell me... while I wasn't bad at all at drawing I recently started learning both of these things and putting them in practice.
