Thank you so much Robinhood of the LS motors. 6 years later and it’s still helping people like me. I want to try and get into tuning my C/10 and this kind of content really helps. I’ve spent $1300 in tuning my truck twice so I really need to learn this so I can put that money back in truck parts, not paying someone else to tune it. You’re the man!
Kudos to you, sir. Probably one of the most digestible form of HPT training I've ever seen online. This would have been amazing to see 10+yrs ago and will be useful to those just getting started!
Kind of normal buddy. You hire a guy to perform his trade, not teach it to you. Everyone I tune tries this. "Teach me to take your money and experience " is a silly expectation.
Please make more videos like these. I've been studying and reading for the past 2-3 months to learn more about HP Tuners and have made small changes to my car. This has cleared up a lot of "not sure" topics I was on. Thank you!
@@SloppyMechanics is there anymore and did you start selling them looking for info trying to skip the BS this is the most informative video I've come across
Love this. I plan on buying HPT for myself and my buddy who has tuned with his dad for 30yrs. This is a great look at what I expect to find when doing my first adjustments
I finally got hptuners after like 4 years of life just getting in the way. I wouldnt even of attempted this shit without you just giving this knowledge away for free. Hopefully everyone realizes how much you share and just give away, it’s unbelievable. I’ll be watching the Vimeo’s once I get my wide band hooked up. Ty sir!
oh yeah, this helped alot in my understanding of the program and the "how to tune" question. It gives a high level overview coupled with a simple "mod this and log it" approach.
I keep revisiting this because it has helped me a lot with my current setup. (08 gmc 4.8, intake, headers, and a 204/211 112lsa cam. Your explanation of your timing methodology was great. Just street tunning, I basically pulled out timing here and there and could feel the seat gains. thank you
Dude ! I wished I would have new about you 7 months ago, I paid a local tuner to tune my LQ4 bone stock in my chevelle. I have the HP PRO Tuners, my car was doing exactly what you said. I plan on learning a lot with my books and your examples. Thanks !!!
thank you thank you thank you. there is nothing as straight forward as this on here I would happily fork over cash for this type of information. easy to follow the screen capture was great and the audio was good too. wish I could have found this a year ago. good job
Thanks for posting she come it's good to see you posting again man I've been watching you for only want to say how long it just makes me feel old as dirt, I will tell you this though you were one of the people responsible for making me one in junkyard LS motor in my project truck and I just want to say thank you for that and I am so happy we have options other than megasquirt although I was not intimidated by building it I did not want to learn how to use it cuz it was killing me in the face just trying to keep up. But Holly on the other hand yeah I have one of those ready to go. Took 5 months to get it but now if it works as well as people say it should be worth it
Thank you thank you thank you. This was clearly described and far more helpful than any other hpt video for people just starting with the software. Liked and subscribed!
Hey slops, Uncle Steve here....GREAT feedback from all the comments. we can certainly do more videos like that, probably 30-60 min each, covering detailed segments of tuning in HP Tuners and MS. they will come with a cost as i am sure many of you would expect. Matt has already spent thousands of hours giving away free stuff. kicking it up a notch like this and getting legit software and taking feedback and making a product he needs to be compensated for his work, we will probably sell them for like $25-$50 a piece, depending on 30 min to an hour. still plenty of other free vids on this channel, and every once in awhile we may throw up a freebie like this for everyone. ftw.
Awesome vid! I wish i would have known some of this stuff when i was first messing with hp tuners on my ls1 drift car! Just curious if you have messed with hptuners and a 05-11 Crown vic/4.6 car? I just picked up an 08 P71 and am going to do a simple conservative turbo build with it. Defiantly looking forward to the paid videos that go into more detail!
Awesome video. I disagree with unified tables. They are an engine safety feature. If you pickup knock it switches to Low table. Set this a little richer and 3 degree of timing below the high table
What a fucked up design. The engineers put a damn accelerator pump on a carb, but they don't add fuel to accelerate with EFI? These aren't fucking Briggs and Strattons. You're the man!
Nice very helpful , please keep these coming , even though I use the EFI live , most tables are the same just the user interface is different . Lol when I turboed my 6.0 lq4 , I'd that problem where when I floored the timing went to like -2 degrees , I was like wtf . Later that day I found the IAT timing table was pulling like 12 degrees from the main table lol . This video would have definitely helped me back then .
HI Jeff you are talking about me with 2000 injectors. I have not run out of money we will do halteck and sec. set of injectors soon. Just built a new garage with lift so i hope to get started soon on the evo . Say hi to Andrea for hope to see you soon.
Just another pro-tip for new people to HP Tuners, you can "LOCK" your stock file if you want too as well. It's a better way to go in my eyes. You are switching it a read only file that will never allow you to save it or over write the file on accident. Here is how you do it. Download the stock file or find it after you have done so. Right click the file and scroll down to properties on the very bottom. It will open a menu and you will find about 3/4th the way down a check box to have it as "read only" and then click apply and ok to finish. Now you will have a file that can't be screwed with and will always be there if you need to go back to it for some reason.
I just ordered HP Tuners off Ebay and this video explains quite a bit. I have an '01 Camaro that I'm going to tune once HPT gets here and with your explanation I should be able to make basic changes to improve upon the stock LS1 tune in my car. Thanks :)
Great job this was by far the best and easiest to follow out of any tuning video I have watched. I've read plenty but there's noting like seeing it being done. Thanks for taking the time to do this can't wait for more. Maybe a turbo ls specific one next? Thanks again
As for feedback on this type of video, I really enjoyed it. The information that you cover is in just the right amount of detail. Its not overly explained but nothing was really brushed over without explaining. I would love to attend a class at some point (and plan to) but If that opportunity does not come, I would opt for these types of videos over other learning methods.
This makes so much sense. i have a stock 2006 gto and it feels like a total dog at anything above an 80 degree inlet air temp according to my ultragauge. Forget about when its heat soaked at 150. amazing that it pulls that much timing. makes total sense knowing its only getting 5* for christs sake. I need a tune..
Great video, thanks for all the info. I just purchased the hpt program an I am a newb with little to no clue on what to do. And this video makes me feel a little better with it.
Thank you, after watching a half dozen vids on this, I like your aspect of the correction factors. You have definitely simplified it for me Keep up the good work !!
coming from some one who has a ms3x on a less common motor and had fully intended to use ms on my next build, a ls base. now im not sure, hpt look as simple if not more simple then ms to tune. I would love to see a video compairing the platforms and benifits of both, also would love input on what is avable on the trans tuing side, as thats one thing stock ecu can save a good amount of money on compaired to stand alones.
Thank You for all of your help throughout the community! Quick question... I have a healthy stock 06 Silverado 3500 6.0L/4L80E. I copied the tune from Derick Gaskins 1500 6.0l 4l80e mostly stock file. Runs amazing! But it has rev hang like crazy. When I touch the throttle in park it hangs at 2k rpm for literally like 5 seconds. Any ideas to lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Great vid bud. I'm sure this may have been posted. I'm not going to search through 177 comments. I hope the individual's truck you tuned, you highly recommended a injector change. Dumb nooby question but since im only going to make PE changes to start my tuning journey, can I run this tune on 89 or just 91+ since I'm not messing with timing yet? You da bestest @sloppymechanics 😘
Great 👍 videos so when they say that you need a custom tune and send your ecu file to some tuner is this what they and using this to do the tune. I’ve been wanting to get into something like this but not sure what one to get and if they do different things than the other one as far as HP tuner and that DIABLO TUNER
For a 2004 gmc sierra with a lot of miles. I know nothing about tuning. I bought it to learn its very interesting. What is something basic to do. Where can I take out the extra rear oxygen sensor. I want to put shorty header and hollowed cats and straight pipe... just for shit and giggles
The knowledge you share is always much appreciated! Thank you. Im guessing it wouldnt be as much of a benefit to the followers maybe im wrong, but will we see a video similar to this that would be a "E78 pcm version"? I swear if Oprah got her hands on all of the parameters and could give them free torque MGMT. "You get trq mgmt, you get trq mgmt, EVERYBODYS GETTING TRQ MGMT!!!!!"
Man I've had issues with my Supercharged 3.8 with it throwing random timing in whenever and where ever it feels like it. I command 18° and it tries to command 22 and knocks 4 degrees. I pull 2 degrees and command 16... Car commands 22 with 6 degrees lol I think you explaining these tables is gonna be a life saver I think
I'm thinking about swapping 6.0ls in my 240z. currently it's running inline 6 with ms2... the ease of using HP tuners almost makes me want to get rid of the megasquirt or going to microsquirt.
Where can your logging config files be found? I'd like to get the G8 one you mentioned. BTW your other videos on tuning that I purchased are excellent. Thank you for sharing all of this information!!
So this is what you mean that some tunes are pig rich and some are shockingly lean at WOT. Minor nit: The PE delay RPM is when you are below 5500. Above it enables PE instantly. It would be fair to mention that a stock LQ4 never sees 5500 rpm though. I will say that GM used this strategy on old TBI trucks with the '7747 ECM. Why? No idea.
You were able to change all the fuel parameters With out licensing using the credits? If you were to license that vin what are the other options are unlocked by using credits ?
Wouldn't giving the high octane ignition timing table to the low octane table cause detonation if you run the low octane fuel? Forgive if this is a stupid question. I'm definitely learning.
Ricky Hart That's definitely a possibility, but 1) you should be running a consistent octane fuel after tuning around a specific octane (or better octane) and 2) your timing tables shouldn't be aggressive enough for knock to rear it's ugly head if you had to run a lower octane fuel or even accidentally bad fuel.
Great video bud !!! If you were next to me I would give you a 2016 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. These videos are great (as I am new to learning HPT).
Really easy to follow along. Some suggestions for topics to someone new like me. Could you explain how the VE works along with the MAF? I have heard guys say that " MAF Only" is better for a stock truck, or that blending between is better. I know that for boosted most guys just jump to speed density. Also an issue I ran into was AFRs going lean as my IATs went up. I have read that it has something to do with the "BIAS" table and the values inside. It seems to be an issue that alot seem to have run into and just tune around. Do you have a strategy for this? Lastly is idle tuning idle. Could you go over how someone would start working on getting a good idle after mods such as a cam? Thanks for your time.
more detailed videos to come at a price. this was a freebie for everyone. the man needs compensation for his time for all this legit work! keep your eyes peeled on the sloppy facebook page and the tuning workshop site on the wiki
Where else can we find the links to the new vids at a cost if I don't have a Facebook, but watch all the vids Matt post. Interested willing to pay, thanks, great vid
Looks like GM changed these PE and EQ "problems" that Matt references in this video. My 2012 2500 6.0L already has very similar changes and AFR changes as expected.

Thanks for the knowledge.
Learned alot from this quick video. Thanks!
Great video bud !!! If you were next to me I would give you a 2016 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. These videos are great (as I am new to learning HPT).
Josh Marmolejo fuck that's one of my favorite beers (this is uncle steve)
make more like this! some for transmission tuning would be great. more advanced as well.
keep up the great work
Really easy to follow along.
1gturbo Understood. these are going to be really good if this is just a taste of what to expect.
@jesus sites.google.com/site/sloppywiki/tuning-workshop-classes
+1gturbo thank you
Note-to-Self: Good video. Start around 5 : 35
Do you have a video showing the correct way to calibrate MAF to match these changes if needed?
Now i have to watch this about 10x to feel comfortable touching my truck.
You are one of the best people on the planet. Could you post a video of the changes you make to a 4l60e with a trans go hd2?
this video is kick ass. definitely throwing a tune up in the daily now. i was nervous to fuck with it, but worse case ill just flash it back to stock.
Looks like GM changed these PE and EQ "problems" that Matt references in this video. My 2012 2500 6.0L already has very similar changes and AFR changes as expected.
Hey Matt, just a tip. You can get high quality recording done with Open Broadcasting Software, no logo on the video and crazy good quality.
