I think the brand needs to show that the dynamic of the regular swimming caps is the same as theirs and the Olympics should allow their brand of caps to be allowed. I don't get why this is an issue and why the Olympics didn't approve it.
@jim smith - why are people thick, explain? If this woman needs to wear a cap that fits her hair why shouldn't she be able to? Also as you are the thick one and need some educating, the reason why caps such as this are important is because of the chemical composition of Afro hair, which unlike Caucasian hair, can be easily and severely damaged by the chlorine in the water. So yes there is a good reason for having caps like this.
African American swimmer have been swimming with this kind of hair, for a hella long time. In America people do this all the time. That’s why you put it in braids and or a bun.

i think if they truly wanted this type of cap to be worn by men or women, then it should have gone through the proper channels and shown that it should be a part of the olympic head gear. You can't just say, I want to wear this or that at such a high arena. They have to make sure that it is not giving an unfair advantage to the athlete. We have to be reasonable...follow the proper steps to get this passed. personally, I think it would be a hinderance and make her slower. also, you cannot compare a store bought swim cap to the type that is used by them. totally different material. I just think we should look at this logically. And she is not the only black swimmer going to the Olympics. We are being represented WELL. I am a huge fan of the Olympics and what it stands for. I am not team usa, I am team everyone!

This is about competing in the Olympics. Rules and regulations for swimming is for all people who qualified to compete in Olympic swimming. You follow their rules period.
I sooooo agree with you; this is unfair and discriminatory. I have stayed away from the pool for years because of this very problem; my 4 type hair is very fragile. Now, because of a back injury that I got last year, my doctor recommended that I go swimming. My first thought was: what am I going to do about my hair? As you said, the conventional swimming caps are pretty useless in giving any kind of protection for our type of hair, so I will definitely go and purchase the swimming cap you mentioned and I’ll post myself in it. A part from that, perhaps we could get a petition going, just because there are few black swimmers doesn’t mean that our rights for equality should be ignored.
