- ¡Ay Carmela! is one of the most famous songs of the Spanish Republican troops during the Spanish Civil War. Many versions of the song developed, and it isn't possible to pinpoint a single author. The song was adapted from a 19th-century folk song, El Paso del Ebro, which commemorated the routing of Napoleonic troops across the river Ebro in 1807.
The sentence 'Luchamos contra los moros' (We fight against the Moors) refers to the Regulares, the Moroccan units who fought alongside the Nationalists.

When I was younger I listened to the Yugoslav version first, when I listened to this I felt that this was a worse version of “Ay Carmela” but now I think of it, this one is more calming and has more emotion.
Honestly i like both versions, including the German, French and British version

I will just point out a mistake in the translation:
"que nos cubrirá de glorias" literally means "that will cover us with glories" (It is supposed to be a brigade THAT will cover them with glories. It is not a wish of the singer, it is a statement of what the brigade will do.)
Creo que es mejor si pones en mayúscula will y no that, el énfasis en inglés se expresa sobre la partícula auxiliar, que es la que cambia los sentidos de la frase:

Is the reference to moors about the army of Africa?
No. It is a reference to the Regulares, and or Franco’s fascist army, of whom many were Moroccans, most likely through forced “volunteer” ing. Franco used the term to describe his own troops, and the term was just synonymous in Spain at that point with the Spanish Moroccans.

The regulares organization formed in 1911 and the ones in Franco’s army were one and the same and was basically a recruitment organization for Moroccans, usually at a young age. Hence why I talked about it being “volunteer” ing but not really and I wouldn’t blame the Moroccans.

The moors mean the regulares, that was the army of the Spanish North Africa, aka the RIF, Cape Juby, Sidi Ifni, Ceuta, Melilla, Saguía de Oro and finally Río de Oro
