Absolute reality is just as empty and ultimately meaningless, and your mind being "purified" is a relative concept.
Learning to accept and love it all regardless of what it is or isn't... that's the "purified mind" you are looking for.
It'll alllll stay empty and meaningless as long as you feel empty inside, AND until you personally give any of it some kind of meaning, you little, insignificant, teeny weeny, Supremely Important and absolutely one-of-a-kind, sliver of "God", a.k.a. All That Is, a.k.a. Shiva itself that you truly are.
I personally love being completely unimportant to others in general, yet the Brilliant and Beautiful Center of my universe... it's all i can be at this point, and i am FINALLY learning to love it. I meant that we have to go "inward" to find the pure mind. The external world cannot help us.
I find the center of silence (like in prathyara). It is from that that I take refuge. I just follow the peace and not live in judgment with strong attachments.

Everything is Shiva, holy and unholy. All are elements of Shiva for he's the purest form of darkness. Humanity has gone about eulogizing light only because of the nature of the visual apparatus that they carry. Otherwise, the only thing that is always, is darkness. Light is a limited happening in the sense that any source of light - whether a light bulb or the sun - will eventually lose its ability to give out light. Light is not eternal. It is always a limited possibility because it happens and it ends. Darkness is a much bigger possibility than light. Nothing needs to burn, it is always - it is eternal. Darkness is everywhere. It is the only thing that is all pervading.

The continual sloshing sound of a flowing river reminds me of my youthful days in Kalayaan, Laguna where I enjoyed wading and playing with the small fishes and aquatic insects through the waters as my aunt was busy washing clothes by the riverbank. Then, when its time for bed, I could still feel the sensation of the flowing waters on my legs, as the crickets lull me to sleep. Happy memories indeed. :)

Shiva means "that which is not" the nothingness in world. The above image is Shankar who first came to know shiva and the shiva energy flowed through him. He gave up his life, body, name and lineage to shiva. Every caste, religion, nation, planet, star, light, good-bad devil-angels, universe itself is contained in this dark black nothingness which will be sucked back to it.
"Initially there was nothing.." thats shiva....the most powerful and unknown, without any form, shape or feature. nobody can measure it, see it, or use it. You can just feel it.
The mind with no desire, no perception about world not even a single idea about this world given to you by this world can perceive Shiva.
The mantra "Aum Namah Shivaya" is to praise Shiva and call him in yourself, the power you can't even hold it in your body. So give up all your ideas, thoughts, sides about anything of this world and call him, then you will be able to realise that our whole existence is just a point in him.

I remember hearing this for the first time at my second PRIDE celebration in PDX a few years ago. One of my worst and best times so far in my life. There were a few people sitting in a drum circle chanting this on a patch of grass near the water front. I picked up one of their cards for their church instead of staying. I really considered joining them but my ego was very much in control back then. I'm so proud to say through my spiritual journey, I truly feel awoken and turn to this kind of meditative music when I need an extra boost in spirit
