You're a genius! This is great stuff, the raw acoustic really brings out the musicality of Sabbath, this shows they never cranked out meaningless sludge, each song is a work of art, thanks for posting.
Eric Anderson thanks man...that's really what i "discovered" when i started breaking the sabbath tunes down to the basic elements. For a "metal" band the stuff is insanely musical and beautiful.
Phil Jakes Amen! Ingenious lyrics, melodies, individual talent, etc. You have really nailed a brilliant style. The Philharmonic should play Sabbath but not tell the audience until the end. Utter shock & awe amongst the jewelry rattlers!
well done man! It's funny how much classical music/ influence shows through metal music when you take the distortion away. Just awesome! and by no way do I mean just Sabbath. You can hear it almost any band across majority of the different genres of metal.
I love how you're floating in space playing acoustic sabbath. It gives it a sense of emptiness and fulfillment, your performance enlightens the amazing sounds of sabbath. Please keep uploading more covers!
I have too let you know I am 46 years old and have over 35,000 songs in my library. My first real introduction to music was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in my cousins garage and I was blown away!!!!!!!!!!! It is such a defining moment in my life and to hear you play it with such grace!!! Amazing!!! Thank You Brother!!!!!!!
Just when I think I ve completely absorbed, understood, and assimilated every possible nuance and/or shade of Black Sabbaths musical legacy..you pull THIS shit off!!! UNBELIEVABLY FANFCKNTASTIC!!! This was a brilliantly creative endeavor n I'm truly TRULY appreciative that you took the time to do it!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!
Man, I think 9 people either clicked the wrong thumb or they really need their heads examined. This is an awesome cover of an awesome tune. You did it justice.
What a perfect Saturday morning...my son's football team won region last night, finally cold outside, sitting here with my coffee, and stumble upon this. Made my whole freakin' day and it's only 8:30.
Speechless...pure brilliance. Goes to show how iommi had some amazing arrangements. My fave guitarist of all time. Dude I can listen to play until I die. Makes me want to put my guitar down!!!!!!
Quite good. I really enjoy listening to this off and on as it has been in my favorites for quite some time. I can listen to the entire tune in my head with just your wonderful acoustics. Thanks, Mr Phil Jakes.
tHANKS AGAIN!! This aught to show a lot of those book learned/metronome hypnotized/mode heads, what a good ear, can do for ones musical skills. I played for almost 20 years, before I ever knew what a major scale or mode was! All my guitar playin friends used to be amazed, with all their lessons, and teachers, telling them all how important theory is, before you can get up on a stage, and play a night of classic rock for people. They'd come over my house, with a tape, and say, "what do you think about this.... (all the time knowing that if I liked something they'd made me listen to, that I'd, figure it out right there and then for them. It used to be easy for me. I'd say... "well it goes something like this, (and I'd proceed to figure out the bass line, which in turn would teach me the chords, from there I could more or less figure what key the lead was in. I remember once I figured out the entire side of Back In Black in about an hour or so. (Rhythm guitar) were like "shit, how do you do that?" I'd answer by askin them, how do you sit and listen to some guy go on about the cycle of 5ths, and modes. You might as well study calculus if you're going to look at music that way. I got into it to be a rebel, to have fun, party and NOT work at a 9-5, and spend years in some college learning about some boring theories. Hell I went to every rehearsal with a 6 pak of bud can tall boys, a pint of Jack, and a few nice "J's". I live in NJ which is called "The Cover Band Capitol" you pay your dues & make a name for yourself, by 1st playing the circuit for years , doing covers Only then would they let you do a set of originals, that went for everyone that came out of this area. Bruce, Twisted Sister, Prophet, Good Rats, Stir Crazy, TT Quick, Southside Johnny, Beaver Brown, the list goes on and on. So a guy with a good ear for figuring out guitars, and lyrics is like gold here. So if I went on an audition, and the band didn't like me pulling a doobie, a bud Can Tall, and Jack Danials, I'd say ah di os boys, it's your loss not mine. Some bands try to take all the fun out of playing rock and roll, and turn it into a business, expecting you to show up on time for rehersals, saying things like, take it from, the 2nd bar, of the 4th verse, key of blah, blah, 3/4 time. or whatever, oh and by the way, you were 10 minutes late today, don't let it happen again. I'd pack up my gear and be outta there. The most successful bands I ever worked in, we'd jam and party all night long, and we always had a blast. None of that anal "turning music into a College Coarse" BS. Have fun with it. Never forget that. Thank you what you do is just fantastic, I love it. Keep up the great work.
Excellent... probably one of the best Sabbath songs for strings.. Great job and thanks for sharing. I stumbled upon your video while looking for the cords to play on the piano... simply excellent!

That sounds fantastic! Playing the vocal melody along with the guitar riffs is a display of talent for sure.. tell me there wasn't another acoustic in there... go ahead.
Hey man, thanks for putting these together. I have a very deep emotional connection to the majority of Sabbath songs. I always love hearing them a new way. Keep doing what you're doing. Dirty women, all moving parts, gypsy the entire Never say Die album, Killing yourself to live, wicked world, hell man just do em all. Die young as well. Although I prefer Ozzy I feel like die young was the absolute pinnacle of Tony's playing.
I also love this because it's one of my all-time favorite Black Sabbath songs, and I think it's been largely underappreciated by the BS fan community, and definitely by those artists that cover Sabbath. I hope you start a trend!
Awesome !!! This is 1 my favorite sabbath songs.love the bass line with the drop d at 4:59 ...gives it a heavy feel.love the whole rendition buddy.thanks for playin the good stuff.
I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan, been rocking with them since age 7. Got my first electric a Strat copy at 12 . buy the time I was 14 I could play every song on the "We sloe our souls for rock'n'roll" album . I like the acoustic jam you do on these song . I jam them acoustic as well . Your videos are great fun for listening . Thanks for posting them ;)
This is rather awesome, man. I found the link adjacent to my National Acrobat cover vid. I dig the acoustic attack - playing it like you own it. great job.
Amazing! I would never have thought it was even possible to do Sabbath songs on a nylon string guitar. I'm jealous. It makes me wish I'd stuck with mine past 'Malaguena.'
+Phil Jakes ive preordered your album but never got it,problably cause i live in holland, but never mind that.My question is rather why arent you selling your recording on bandcamp.com? i wanna reorder the album but can't find your album there? thx and keep up the good work.
Great job! Nice rendition... way to make it your own! I know everybody has their own personal tastes, but its beyond me how people could give a thumbs down to a post like this... Haters!
Playing the main line AND the overdubbed part at once? pretty impressive.
That’s literally what I was gonna comment
You're a genius! This is great stuff, the raw acoustic really brings out the musicality of Sabbath, this shows they never cranked out meaningless sludge, each song is a work of art, thanks for posting.

light years away from sludge--sabbath and jakes rule
"this shows they never cranked out meaningless sludge"
... uh , don't listen to the album Tyr... lol

That space background is caused by song's lyrics
I never could imagine that Black Sabbath could be played so amazing on only one guitar!
I have too let you know I am 46 years old and have over 35,000 songs in my library.
My first real introduction to music was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in my cousins garage and I was blown away!!!!!!!!!!!
