Dude's the whole package: speed, strength, and smarts. If there was one ding against him this past season, it's that he tried to do too much. I like that he's willing to take on contact and fight through it for extra yards, but he needs to protect the ball better if he plans on doing that routinely. The fumble through the endzone at San Fran was a prime example. He picked up a critical first down right before the half, and had the opportunity to step out of bounds so the Seahawks could run a few more plays after he positioned them in the red zone. But he pushed forward through multiple tackles along the paint, lost control of the ball in his arms, and had it ripped out of his hands as he fell into the endzone, turning the ball over at a key point in the game when the offense was yet to put up a scoring drive. He's been lucky in other games that he's been the bigger body and can generally hang onto passes when facing off against shorter corners, but he's got to start making smart plays when the clock is not on their side, or when the drive only needs to be sustained by picking up a first down. His physicality is impressive, but the Hawks are a team that prize ball security and clock management to wear down their opponents, so having him cough up the ball by trying to plow his way through multiple defenders isn't helpful to that offense. He's shown that he's willing to chip in on blocks, and he's getting better at adjusting to Russ's scramble drills, but he's got to work on keeping that ball locked to his chest, or completing the down and stepping out of bounds before the defense has a chance of clawing it away from him.
There are key plays in a game a fan will remember of their own team, and can paint the picture in a very insightful way because how much the game means to them. I can relate, and I recognize this post is an example of that
Kind of saw a preview of it in this video, too. In that drop chart that saw Metcalf on the less reliable end of the chart, Gallup was by far the biggest outlier in the wrong direction.
When you give the ypa stats for each route type, could you give a comparison other WRs so that we can see where this player stands compared to the best in each type or compared to the league average based on attempts? 7.9 per attempt sounds good for a fade, but that route would normally bring in like 20+ yds at a time, so what's his completion rate relative to other receivers? I think that's more valuable in determining his effectiveness than just YPA alone.

Alshon was more of a "post up" receiver, the kind you want to throw curls to all day long. DK has the body to do that, but he has so much more straight line speed than Alshon had. Remember, early on there were some concerns that he might eat his way out of the league, but he straightened that out.
Russell Wilson threw that pass to Metcalf against the Saints because it was almost halftime and Seattle had no time outs, the throw to Vannett wouldn’t have put them in field goal range
9:24 Jamel Dean is actually a decent player, but Russ and Tyler made him look HORRIBLE. He ran a very similar (faster) 40 time to DK, but DK made him tackle AIR. My goodness. I remember BA coming to Dean's defense even in the postgame presser. Great game there!
@James Black If he studies the tape from that game, he'll be a very good player in the future. The exploited every single weakness he had in a variety of match ups. Can't wait for DK to take his next steps! 12up!
I was a big Metcalf doubter in the draft ONLY because of his drops.Couldn't give two shits about his three cone. You can be perfect everywhere else but if you can't do the thing in the job title (receive), then your off my day 1 list and will have to redeem yourself hard to be considered on day 2. My thoughts were the same with Hamler and Reagor this year.
Metcalf had several bad drops this year man haha. I'm still not convinced yet. He can make the big catch...but he cant do it consistently. Also fumbles. But he was a rookie
The injuries and the lack of college dominance was my concern, people said he slid in the draft but I always thought of him as a day 2 pick so I wasn’t that surprised. He went to the perfect team to correct some of his inefficiencies though.
They had two time-outs. The pass was at 12 seconds remaining. You can call a time-out and run 1-2 more plays to attempt to get you in field goal range.
^you wanna know wh he didnt go for the quick pass to vernett in the saints game? because it was 2nd quarter with 10 seconds left and wilson wanted to get some yards for his kicker
I'm glad the Seahawks pick him up to join the team we need good weapons DK Metcalf is the next Doug Baldwin although I miss angry Doug. Fun fact his father used to play for the NFL Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints also his cousin played for the NFL too who has been to the pro bowl 3x.
Metcalf is pretty much what was advertised, a physical and athletic freak with poor agility and route running for the position. What stands out when watching him make these plays is that he does have great focus especially on deep routes. With a QB who has less accuracy or touch, he could really have been a miss, but Wilson does a great job utilizing him, and hopefully that means he has the time to improve his route running and hands.
Sam who was the monster who had 75 catchable targets and ZERO drops? Or the equally impressive 85ish catchable targets and one drop. Lastly as a Bills fan my guess for the 7 drops despite a very low target count would be Dawson Knox, he fucking killed us with his stone hands at times.
DK Metcalf will never be Julian Edelman. When teams looked at his terrible 3-come drill I believe they focused way too much on what he couldn’t do. Who cares is Metcalf at his best will be around 6 routes, if those 6 routes are elite that’s well worth the high draft pick.
Samuel Gold Well, a bad safety didn’t make the pick. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Russ gave DK a chance based on the defensive personnel. Not spinning anything. You made it a point to mention ‘bad safety’ intimating that a good one makes the play.
His realest is so fucking slow, he is only good when the play breakdown or deep balls, Russell specialty is when the play breakdown, that's why they pick him.
If you look at his game from the beginning to the playoffs he really is improving and ik because i watched all. At the beginning you could see that he had a lot of problems in his game. He has gotten a lot better and he is improving because he has a good quarter back. Physically he did better than julio jones imagine if he gets better at route running.
been waiting for a Deebo Samuel vid and NOBODY has done it. Clout chasers using misleading stats and unworthy tapes of a few play breakdowns. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Russ with that “flick of the wrist” throw against the Bengals
How have I never heard of this guy? Is he related to Decaf Metcalf?
This is some highbrow stuff and I love it
Yeah same, I have heard of a DJ Metcalf though.

@@tripleoo0 You saw that preview for a reason :) haha - That will be a big point I'll bring up next week!
I’m a fan of his, but these are facts.
He had some drops early, but very little the second half of the season.
Anyone here after DK just taught his son Stephon Gilmore a lesson?
6:30. Dont forget metcalf had his mouthpiece ripped out by the defender as he was falling backwards and still made the catch
Megatron builded a HOF career out of these three routes!
built
Munch z buildeded

Reminds me a lot of Alshon when he first came into the league. Just a jump ball god.
Alshon was more of a "post up" receiver, the kind you want to throw curls to all day long.

Great breakdown my dude. The clips you shown were perfect.
I thought he would've went higher. The guy can ball.
I was pretty shocked when he didn't go in the first round
Nice job making this vid one day after Alex Rollins the Goat’s vid on DK. Really nice timing
Keep them coming sam!
Russell Wilson threw that pass to Metcalf against the Saints because it was almost halftime and Seattle had no time outs, the throw to Vannett wouldn’t have put them in field goal range
Great video, as always!
9:24 Jamel Dean is actually a decent player, but Russ and Tyler made him look HORRIBLE.

New Age Megatron, just needs to sharpen up those feet and it’s over
Pretty sure the reason he didn’t throw to Vannett and chucked it down field is because the half was almost over and had no TOs. Maybe wrong
Gonna be a top 10 receiver this year
I was a big Metcalf doubter in the draft ONLY because of his drops.Couldn't give two shits about his three cone.

@Nicholas Hansen Agreed. Idk if boom/bust classifies him really. I think he'll become good, but not great. Like Brandon Marshall career impact
Dk dropped two touchdown passes vs the eagles and other drops during that game. He got brick hands
Chris Berger I agree with you but Brandon Marshall has 6 100 catch seasons so I think he had a great career
i miss angry doug
For the play against the saints, he passed on vanette bc it was 5 seconds from half time so wilson went deep
The Seahawks should hire Doug Baldwin as their wide receivers coach
Probably don't want him around the team since him and Russ are not real friendly with each other.
@@TheSeattleGamer Doug has a story or 2 where he approached Russ a certain way and Russ humbled him quick. I think you're right on this one.
maybe doug baldwin and tyler lockett can teach him a thing or two to add to his repertoire
Baldwin is golfing
I blamed ole miss’ offensive style, play calling, coaching & bad QB play for metcalf & aj brown unimpressive stats
Gardner Minshew vid soon?
Another receiver the Giants missed in the second round
Where do you find the clips ??
No ads? Big move
Please do Michael Gallup! Your videos are TOP NOTCH! Keep up the great work👍🏻
He's next! :)

while he is a freak to look at at WR, i think the only thing against him wouldve been his hands.....but he can catch so i got nothin lol

Lastly as a Bills fan my guess for the 7 drops despite a very low target count would be Dawson Knox, he fucking killed us with his stone hands at times.
it was Fitzgerald
and the 1 drop was Chris Godwin
Knox had 10 drops
Dk reminds me of TO

people doubt on dk imagine
💪💪💪
Maybe give Russ credit for knowing it wasn’t a better safety. Offensive players look at personnel as well.
Even bad safeties will make that pick... It was a poor decision that worked out. No reason to spin it as anything more than that.
Samuel Gold Well, a bad safety didn’t make the pick. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Russ gave DK a chance based on the defensive personnel. Not spinning anything. You made it a point to mention ‘bad safety’ intimating that a good one makes the play.
@@adgee5401 it was poor selection and just happened to work out
Samuel Gold that play came at the end of the first half. There was no time left. That’s why he didn’t throw to Vannet and made such a risky decision.
I agree with Sam
Almost all of these look like great throws by Wilson. Metcalf isn't very open and doesn't do much besides just hold his hands up.
Bojac you have no idea how football works huh🤧
His realest is so fucking slow, he is only good when the play breakdown or deep balls, Russell specialty is when the play breakdown, that's why they pick him.
Scary Terry is still the best in him class tho
I'm sorry those routes are terrible, he is winning these battles with athleticism
He isnt proving anything. He has russle Wilson 🤐😅
If you look at his game from the beginning to the playoffs he really is improving and ik because i watched all. At the beginning you could see that he had a lot of problems in his game. 50% of his routes were go routes or screens. Gtfo. Under Russ Wilson he’ll never have a great season
