I am so happy you bought a new Tele. Years ago you wrote a number of articles about the greatness of Teles. When I was younger, I completely overlooked that guitar for the Strat. Something you mentioned several times was that many guitar players really want a Tele, but don't know it and don't often try it cause they think it's a country guitar. When I picked up a Tele, I realized, THAT was the sound I had been trying to get out of a Strat for years. The bridge pickup is full like a Les Paul humbucker. It even stacks up well with a Les Paul in a mix. One of your articles from years ago was how every Metal player should own a Tele, and I 100% agree. Overdriven raunchy tones sound excellent on a Tele and rarely get muddy. Having tone control on the bridge pickup is a blessing.

I very much appreciate the rear pickup in a Telecaster. The modern Affinity Strat does in fact have tone control wired in for its rear pickup now, but the Tele still has greater output back there. Squier _sort of_ answered the call on this with a Strat. They just released a new Paranormal Custom Nashville Stratocaster. Not sure how I feel about it. It's a 3-pickup with a Tele rear, Strat middle, Tele mini-single front on a "flat Strat" body with Tele controls. It has push-pulls to get true 5-way switching out of it. Not a fan of push-pulls. www.fender.com/en-US/squier-electric-guitars/stratocaster/paranormal-custom-nashville-stratocaster/0377040578.html

I still have a fiesta red Squier Bullet Strat from... circa 2011, bought in Jan 2012. Was blown away at how nice the neck felt, but I did have to do some light sanding of the fret endings. I also echo the sentiment about general guitar setup, for me it was something I'd do to any axe I'd get anyway, so the various abnormalities (wonky stock intonation, setting personal string action, etc) essentially got auto-corrected by me, hah. For about $119 or so it was a nice little thing. Mine came with the vibrato-equipped bridge, seems the modern ones are hard-tail only sadly.

Squier brought back an entry-level Strat with the vibrato. It's the new "Sonic" series I mentioned in the video, so you're not limited to just the hardtail entry models now. Four colors offered. www.fender.com/en-US/squier-electric-guitars/stratocaster/squier-sonic-stratocaster/0373151526.html
