  • Description I have noticed a small oil leak from somewhere under the hydrostatic drive trans axel of my early International 1450 Cub Cadet. Reading sections 33a and 33b in Charlie's FAQs, I went ahead and cleaned the back half of the tractor, hardware, external brakes and pads. Needless to say, the tractor cleaned up well. After I had reassembled it, I took it around the yard for a test run, and parked it back in the shop with clean towels under the transmission. I'm going to bet the cork gasket is beginning to leak. We'll see.

ok i just bought 6 of these that sat outside for over 20 years. all of them were leakers. what happens is the cork gasket between the hydro pump and the transaxle case shrinks and leaks. you dont near end, just drain the oil and remove the drive shaft and remove the oil return line. remove the shifter assembly (2 bolts) remove 4 bolts that hold the pump and remove from top.replace gasket with a new one or use gray silicone. the other leak source on these if yours has wet brakes is the o ring on the brake plunger. the book says you have to tear the entire transaxle down to fix but i fixed mine by using a correct size easy out or tap to remove the plunger from the front. i honed the bore with a brake hone and replaced the o ring. leak fixed./

john are all the fittings tight?
previous owner monkeyed around with stuff and alot was loose, it has a massive hydro leak when i got it, the lower pipe fitting was loose.

I can add your comment to the list of items I have not checked, lol! I'll check that today. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this tractor, and it was very cool that it was delivered out to me,...imagine that!
      thanks
