@Bryan C. It's necessary on this blade. Trust me. The grind is terrible from the factory and not properly sharp. But once you do it, it cuts like a lightsaber and maintains a good edge.
I had to do the same to my USMC OKC3s bayonet which is the same blade but serrated.
