I love how you chuck in the fun facts of yum cha in your video, yes Dad also shared that knock on the table gesture with us, never knew why until now that you explained it. Always love a hearty yum cha lunch as a family bonding moment .. now craving for some har gaw hehehe 🥟🥠🥡🍜
Really enjoyed watching this video and love how you review your food and at the same time educate your viewers about it too . Looking forward to more videos , Awesome !
I haven't done yum cha in 10 years but my wife and I have made a double date to do this after our Adelaide fun run this Sunday, so thanks for giving me some tips on what to order Janice!
well you can say delicious as many times as you wish because every dish you recommend is so so delicious!! Dim sum is one of my favorite as well for breakfast and all (i really mean ALL) the dishes you ordered look so good and I would definitely visit this place when I am in Sydney.
Radish Cakes are so good. Really enjoy how you're describing each one. This is actually so helpful. We never know what to order. Love that glutinous rice. We had one with tons of mushrooms. Yum! Yes, you have to get that egg tart. Really enjoyed this video.
Omg, i miss Dim Sum so much. Quarantine in NYC, 😕🙁 5/22/20. The radish cake is a mix of raddish and rice flour with diced Chinese sausage and dry miniature prawn, scallion. yummy. Serve with oyster sauce. My grandfather made the steam sponge cake, i always thought it was an American Chinese thing. Never ate it in HK. Love the lotus sticky rice. I love my sweet red bean dessert. You forgot my fav, the fried taro dumpling. I really enjoyed having dim sum with you 💕
Thanks for teaching me the Chinese names for the dishes I didn't know. Now I'm not a total noob. My go-to: Lor mai gai Char siu bao Congee Glutenous balls Chicken pie Mango pudding Daan tart Mango pancakes The mango donut is new to me. Looked amazing!
Yummmy yummmm chaaaaa!!! Hahaha loveeee yum cha so much, one of the best we had experience was when we went to HK last year, sooo good!!! Thanks for sharing this Janice, we love it especially you know how to pronounce them in cantonese and write them in chinese too 👍🏻👍🏻 We love har gao, lao ma gai, siu mai, and of course the egg tarts 😍😍😍 Great episode 👍🏻
hehe let's go again when you guys come visit sydney! i love the same things you guys love - har gao, lo mai gai, siu mai and egg tarts maybe we'll get chicken feet too ;)
beef tripe and Ja Leung..our fav..we always order beef ribs and chicken feet too...hahaha ^^ but yeahh..we always play guessing the total spend with friends everytime we go yumcha!
@@JaniceFung The yum cha restaurants don't actually called it chicken feet, instead give it a mythical name of "foong choa" literally translated: phoenix claw. I actually use this dish to gauge a yum cha restaurant. Majority of them serve a good one.
Janice you have actually showcased my favourite yumcha place in sydney Palace is one of the more traditional places and their craftmanship of their food is of such a high standard I consider them the crouching tiger hidden dragon!
56 isnt tooooo bad for thaat many foood!!! Omg I love pu er with chrysanthenum tea Its the best combo My fav is the cheung fun with prawns or like beef Also, i get stressed if we order too much in one go, so i like to eat it slow and one by one So many memories
煎酿三宝 (I dont know the english name for this, fried 3 treasures hahaha), congee, prawn dumpling, fried carrot cake, cheongfun, lomaigai, steam chicken feet and pork ribs... and the list goes on because there are so many of them
Back when I was working in town which is quite a while ago now the two go to places were Golden Century and this other restaurant on Dixen St (cant remember the name).
Hi Janice. Edjo and I really like your videos. This video was quite insightful. Today was our first time at Palace. The food and service are quite good but I found the prawn har gow a little bit too dense (too much wrapping) for my liking. We both think the taro dumpling is one of the best in Sydney. Thank you so much 🙏🏻 and keep on vlogging! 💗
I used to remember this place as the Golden Palace. I guess they changed their name, tells you how long ago I was at this place. Anyway the charming thing about a Yum Cha place is all the ladies coming around with their trollies of food and then talking to you in Chinese even though you can speak a word of it. Just hand it over lady, give me a stamp. Too good hahaha.
We're in love with Dim Sum and would love to try more of it! Cha Siu bao is one of our favorites too! Oohh, scallop on top! That emperor story is super interesting. Loved it! We want to believe it's true. Haha I don't think we've tried the fried noodles.
Ahh was that the reason on why that finger tapping after tea pouring...interesting! we're always wondering about the story behind it...haha^^ no we can also explain to our friends LOL
@@JaniceFung I was informed that these days, the correct protocol of two finger tapping is ONLY to be used to thank the person pouring/serving you tea, case of "your action speaks louder". You do not do this when the waiter staff brings the pot of tea to your table, instead you say it. You would still have to say "thank you" if food is being served/offered to you. Sounds confusing doesn't it? Furthermore my personal take is that with the noise level in about every yum cha restaurant is at fever pitch that you can't be heard anyway LOL
New subscriber here, been binge watching your videos all day 🙌🏻🎉🎊 I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YUM CHA. Har gow, xiao long bao, and shu mai are on my top 3 list 😆 So far I've managed to eat them in every country I visited 😂 from street food ones to the ones served in a restaurant, they're all YUM.
