      I've owned both the 50 and the Iconic. While the Iconic is great, I still like the red channel on the 34 better than any of the other red channels. Great amplifiers!

      @@BlairArroyo I love that you have 2 of them. I used to do the same thing when I had my band. One for home for the rehearsal space. I use the free plugin from ML sound labs of this amplifier every single week. That amp is so good. Even at low volumes.

    For anyone who cares about wattage, twice the wattage will increase your volume by 3 decibels. So a 100 watt amp can be 3 decibels louder than a 50 watt amp, and in order to be 3 decibels louder than 100 watts, you would need 200 watts.
    Also, an increase of 6 decibels doubles the perceived volume to your ears. So, 3 decibels isn't insignificant, but most of us will never take advantage of the full power of a 100 watt amp anyway. However, the feel completely changes. I've never loved the way lower watt amps feel, especially in the cases where it's a variant of a higher wattage version, like this amp.
    Any time I've played a 100 watt versus the lower wattage version, whether it was 60 watts, 50 watts, 30 watts, etc., the 100 always sounded better to me. I wish it didn't, because I will never use the volume, and I hate carrying heavy equipment up and down stairs and in and out of a car.

    Since my first comment was posted to inflict maximum butt hurt on certain viewers, I suppose I should take a moment to comment on the actual comment.
    It may be bias induced for a desire to return to better times, but I still prefer the Peavey 5150's, now 6505's. That being said the need for mega watt amps is long gone. I prefer the smaller amps as they seem to be tighter, to my ear.

    • @tyrannosaurusriffs
      @tyrannosaurusriffs  10 месяцев назад +2

      Peavey does make a great amplifier. I’ll never let go of my block letter and I’m sure I’ll own a 6505+ again at some point. Those were my first real loves with tube amps and I always go back to them. If I played live again, 50 watt amps and 212 cabs. Everything else is too big to lug around. Also, I do hope the first comment gets some people haha

    I have yet to find a convincing argument in favor of extra wattage. I think the lead guitarist for ZZ Top plays a Marshall 15 watt mini stack live.

    • @collinreardon79
      @collinreardon79 7 месяцев назад

      Low end. Even if you were to turn down the low/resonance down to match. The headroom allows it to breathe. Especially the lower you tune down, it becomes extremely noticeable. That being said, the way the 50 watts naturally cut the low end is actually kind of pleasing and brjngs out different parts of the frequency spectrum. So they both have positive tonal qualities.

  • @VinceMusicianG

    the 50 sounds low and high focused with a dip in the mids and the 100 has the mid hump and a little less top end sizzle

  • @necroticpoison

    50 blue sounds more scooped than the 100 blue, definitely (though in a specific spot). Both sound killer. I think for the EL34s, the 100W is the go, and for a Stealth, the 50 and 100 are both exceptionally good.

    It's hard to compare red channels because blue gain pot on 100 is like bright for red channel as you said. It changes bass before gain and power of gain so you must turn red gain pot higher when blue gain pot (bright pot) is turned down. But there is another problem. Red gain pot has bright cap and when it's over half way it adds more and more bass when pot is close to the maximum.

    • @tyrannosaurusriffs

      You said it much better than I did. It’s weird that it does that. I’m still surprised at how different the two amps are. I would have thought they’d be a lot closer in similarity. Not worlds different, but definitely have quite a bit of differences.

    I own the 50 watt head. I wish they would have used concentric knobs for the shared eq. I also don't like how the tone changes when using when engaging the effects loop. Cool video

    From the distance it looks like a sliced Warwick, the thing you're playing, not the Eko they've cut out of parkour happier hours, nor the line that we tested it was not worth the very pro rig, why not one of those cheaper Harley Benton? Ranger or Fiesta? I don't know what's beyond that 7-Eleven thing, I never had to test anything over 5k that I'd never spend on a watch under that sum. That's all folks it's still not a classic. I'd rather eat a steak at Angus than get futhermore mad over chineses roses essences of sakè to die with in my own pit of plexiglass extravaganza. Namastè.

    The best answer is having both. Even though I have both, I can't sell the 50w one, it is still different from the 100s. Try recording a mix and listen to it, this way you'll know what you like. I personally like both and record using both. Also, fully agree on the red channel of the 100s.

      Before I purchased my 50 Stealth. I also got to test the Badlander. Actually for me the EVH somehow stayed in my heart, the sound was much tighter, glassy, transparent and pushing especially on the Fishman pickups. Boogie was much more focused on the low end and felt cloudy and empty to me, kind of missing that boost. But this is my personal opinion and I do not commit anyone to it, it's all a matter of taste!
