    Hi, Room 3 here. The poster above the bed is the famous 'I think' scribble that Charles Darwin made in his note book, whilst contemplating evolution. This idea was indeed seen as inappropriate at the time. @bloodkiss4491 and I worked together closely on this project. Most elements on the rover have seen edits by both of us, but at times we focussed on specific parts individually. The 48 wheel active suspension and the unfolding solar array are elements that were mostly made by me.

    Man do I wish small grid blocks costed less pcu so they were more viable in official. My group on NA1 decided to do a unique playthrough. Starting on pertam making it the hardest to fly we made the rule that large grids HAD to be rovers. And only small grid flying vehicles. With the eventual goal of transporting our massive faction rover to space using small grid ships. We drove around the entire globe while mining and everything as we went. It was probably the most fun I've had in SE. Really cool to be based on a moving large vehicle with tons of ships flowing in and out, upgrading the rover as we went. Crane arm moving ships on the landing area and hangars. All while traversing the dangerous pertam landscape in a 200000 pcu rover. We had to build a bridge across a 2km chasm to complete our trip

    • @more_shifty
      @more_shifty  3 месяца назад

      That sounds like a lot of fun, you must have had a large group to be able to spend 10 people's worth of PCU on the rover alone.

    • @jayschmidt2196
      @jayschmidt2196 3 месяца назад +1

      @more_shifty well at least 4 of the group at that time had alternate accounts to dump pcu on. That group is for NA 1 official so pcu limits are always an obstacle. That was 2 years ago but I've more recently gotten an alternate myself. Makes playing official alot more fun as you can keep you infrastructure on one account then use the other to build fun ships and go wild. You could write a history book with what's happened on NA1. That little small grid excursion we did was on NA10 just so it was a fresh start where none of us had any preexisting stuff.

      @@more_shifty They all evolve over time or get adaptations. Like my cargo truck started with 4 large cargo, 2 large hydrogen, 6 batteries, 2 O2 gens and 3 oxygen tanks. 3 Gatling turrets. Chunky truck was mainly just a mass transport vehicle. I originally made it shortly after planets came out. It gets updated as new features get added and now it has hydrogen engines and a survival kit.
      I recently made an IFV version with a completely redesigned interior. The core of 4 cargo and 2 hydrogen was removed and turned into an airtight crew cabin with controls for the custom turrets it mounts. I've built various kinds fron gatlings to artillery depending on requirements. Also added a trailer hitch a while back for pulling various trailers I've been building.
      Probably my biggest small grid is an excavator, based on real world ones. It is fully functional, but still in progress since it's massive cargo capacity of 5 large and 9 medium cargo gives the suspension trouble. It has a custom operator cabin that is airtight. It is fully functional with a mining boom that extends over 30 meters.
      All my vehicles are designed for hardcore survival type use, meaning they can be operated without jetpack, nor third person, and frequently have extensive power and life support functions.
      My most complex build is a big rig style truck that pulls two trailers, though only the truck has an airtight cabin interior. It is a prospecting and mining vehicle that carries a large grid ore detector on the front trailer and when a deposit is found, the trailers unhook and connect back to back, deploying solar, cargo, and lifting a self assembling drill rig that allows it to reach any depth as long as it has the parts. Originally designed before hinges with a different type of drill, instead carrying a deployable climbing type driller. It is undergoing a complete redesign to take advantage of the benefits of hinges and the smaller hitboxes.
      None of them are fancy or edgy, heh, just basic industrial vehicles that have served me well, some for years of gameplay. I'll get around to posting them to the workshop eventually.

    Great video and some really cool rovers. Do you have a link to the herbert rover as it isnt in the collection and I wanted to see how the piston bumper works because I can't find any info online. Or, do you know of any other blueprints that could show me how the piston bumper works please?

    • @more_shifty
      @more_shifty  10 месяцев назад +1

      If it's not in the collection then it's not publicly published. I don't know of any other builds (off the top of my head) that use a piston bumper, but I can explain how it works:
      The pistons just hold the bumper, they don't move. Then, because the bumper is a subgrid your main grid won't get slowed down when you hit a tree. You can get the same effect with hinges or rotors as well. Even using forwards facing wheels (on suspensions) will work, as technically they are also subgrids.

    • @Qyron99
      @Qyron99 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@more_shifty thank you. They don't need to be extended or anything to provide a bit of suspension travel? I can just place them, leave everything default then put my bumper right on them?

    • @more_shifty
      @more_shifty  10 месяцев назад +1

      That is correct, you don't need them extended, though you can if you want. It's the fact that they're a subgrid which makes it work.

    • @more_shifty
      @more_shifty  Год назад

      It uses scripts to control the wheels as they are on subgrids. If you have scripts turned off then it won't drive. Otherwise you should be able to drive it from one of the main chairs in the bridge. There should be some programmable bocks on the hotbar, try clicking them, one locks the wheels if I remember correctly.

    • @more_shifty
      @more_shifty  Год назад +2

      Yup, pretty much what B. S. said. You have the timer block turn the survival kit on and "start" itself in a loop.
      Then you can turn off the survival kit and spawn elsewhere if you have auto-respawn enabled. After a short bit the timer will turn the survival kit back on so you can get back.
