Spent some lovely days in my 20's knee deep in mud and leaches collecting sapphires and zircons - blue green and yellow sapphires to maybe 2 carat, mostly much smaller, clear to yellow zircons to maybe 0.5 carat - good colour but no size. Went back last year - could not get to the gravel layer under the mud from potato farming runoff....
Those are some good sizes for the area, there are some lovely stones around there though. The spud farm runoff is bad yeah, so many of the gullies are silted up. Mind you the subdivision and urbanisation of the area is way worse sadly. Did you ever dig holes/shafts on the flats for wash or just the creeks? I'll be doing a video on sinking in the flats away from the creek when I can get over there with a spare day or two.
It's a spring steel probe so I can feel though mud and sand to find hard packed gravel, looking for the tight wash that will have the most heavies in it, hopefully gold and gems as well ;-) You can feel and hear the gravel with a decent probe.
Just wondering which forest this was in, as I don't think prospecting is allowed in the Bunyip State Park. Would love to get a broad location where I can go for a bit of a scratch!
Not in the Park no, this is private property access only to get to but if you go down to Redwood park and walk along the creek there you'll find something ;-) Just don't make a mess, fill in after and don't go on private land and you will be fine. Let us know what you find.
@@billingmetalsive been working off the same book for about half a year. Unfortunately I very rarely get the chance to go out fossicking. When you say the creek at redwood park do you mean cement creek? I would absolutely love to find something, even if its not cuttable. Thanks mate, you have a new subscriber!
@@ManfiCat It's a gully that feeds into the Cockatoo Creek just below the township. It may have a different name but there are two enormous Redwoods in there. Thanks for the sub 😁
