I once found 4 Oyster cards lying around the house from various visits over the years. That was a nice £20+ refund! I only use contactless now. So much more convenient.
I've discovered two things about oyster cards that it are useful to know. First, (or perhaps since it is London I should say "Firstly") if you get to the end of your trip and there is not enough of a balance on your oyster card you can still leave the station and we'll have to cover the difference the next time you top up. Second, I have traveled to London a number of times with my son who is blind. He can travel on the tube and buses for free, simply because of this disability. Indeed I have seen station personnel escorting blind people to the platform as well as from the platform to outside the station. This is a great service for the blind. Both of those things could change at any time but it's something worth knowing while still in effect .

It's not the swipe of credit cards. If your card has the contactless payment feature, it can be used. This video is only about Oyster cards. Just because I don't talk about using a card doesn't mean I haven't updated people. I talk about that option in other videos.
Great tip! We don't have an easy system like that here but there are charities who accept Metro cards with leftover fare on them and use them to help folks who need help getting to job interviews, doctors appointments, etc. Does anything like that exist over there too?
The Underground ceased running to Heathrow at the end of my trip. Everyone was diverted to GWR at Acton, and there was no time to stand on line for the machine before catching my flight home. I might try the mail option.

You can't get Visitor Oyster credit back I'm afraid.
