It's crazy this dude was the guitar player originally and they lost their singer and he stepped in not knowing how to really scream. A few years later the dude is one of my favourite vocalists. Awesome!
I thought this was a classic Thornhill joke when they announced it... but here we are with a full album with vocals only and it's amazing. It's crazy how much ambiance is in there that isn't noticeable in the full mix.
they might have just added for this version of the album.

@@petrknedlik Lol coming in super late, if you check some track to track analysis online of popular songs you'll see that there is a shitton of reverb even in tracks where it isnt noticeable in the final mix!!
When artists release isolated pieces from their album it really shows you the layering that goes into their music. All the small vocal backings that you usually wouldn't hear in a full mix.
This album was already god tier but this elevates it to a whole nother level. Also Jacob not only has one of the best voices in this scene, but the music industry as a whole IMO
Where we go when we die is simply unbelievable. I don't think I've ever heard lyrics as devastating as these. They tear through the very fabric of existence and capture the absurdity of death and belief. Just... devastating...
15:00 onward to the end of the song is my favourite part of the entire album. So nice to hear those backing vocals on the left channel louder because that's what captures my attention most out of everything else going on.
This is so haunting. I think this is one of the only bands I could sit through an entire record just listening to vocals. There is so much you can't really pick out in the originals but are amazing. Like the monotone singing in Nurture just gave it a different feel. Also, I never realized how nasty his screams could be.
This album was one of the best, if not the best of 2019. I look forward to hearing new songs from them but I also prefer them to take time to make quality material, like they did until now.
I was looking for someone who knew the rando womans voice just thrown in the album. Loved it and would love to hear more on the next album like Make Them Suffer does it. I think his voice would pair well.
Just finished the whole album and I literally cried 3 times, Jacob's voice is truly astonishing, my favorites were views from the sun, red summer, lily and the moon, all the light we don't see, and where we go when we die, and I genuinely don't know what to say more than that but damnnnn I fucking love you guys.
15:17 This build up leading into when it drops gives me goose bumps EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! Ughhh pure RAW talent both vocals and instrumentally wise. Currently praying to the gods, that these guys are balls deep into their next album ready to blow our minds once again.
I am just so thankful for an official isolated vocal album from ANY band! Making it Thornhill is just making a great thing better! Thanks for releasing this.
Fuck, I didn't expect to listen to the whole thing, but I just couldn't help myself! I'm commenting now as Im in the final minute of play and I just gotta say this was one fucking awesome experience! I don't think I've ever listened to isolated vocals before but the vocalist for Thornhill is probably one of the top 3 most talented in the genre. So glad I checked this out and thank you for sharing!
Can't wait to see all the drummers on RUclips,go ham on this song post links here please. It would be awesome to see someone play a full drum through non stop for 35 minutes
Wow, although I’m not a huge fan of every aspect of his vocals I am blown away by the maturity of this band. First a instrumental version of the album and then the vocal only version. There would be a lot of “BIG BANDS” that would never release a vocals once version. BIG props to you guys, keep up the great work. 👌
Honestly favourite track off this album is Lily and the moon but every track off this album is absolutely PHENOMINAL but the vocal mixing in the chorus of Lily and the moon with the slightly out of time lower octave just added so much for me
I'm gonna binge this again, then I'm gonna binge TDP full album stream, then probs go back to this because just wow, can't believe how good this actually is! ^_^ Took us all by surprise I bet!
Everyone: makes instrumental version of album
Thornhill: hold my beer
I just bought the Butterfly vinyl…side B is all instrumental!
Can’t even find those tracks online
This was the band’s last ditch effort to get Jacob a GF. Hope it worked.
@Areeb Khan would love to know as well
Aurora O. 😂😂😂
@Aurora O. you'd dig a band called tesseract a lot and if you're feeling vocally adventurous after that, a band called textures
@@brucebayne7162 *laughs in Monuments*
@@jacketyt6992 haha agreed. Isn't the vocalist new now? That Andy Cizek kid or whoever? he's really talented
Red Summer is phenomenal. The ending is out of this world.
I think Red Summer might be my fav track on the album
@Aurora O. I didnt cry but came close. I literally dont understand why it fucked me up so bad lol
if i had only one song i can listen to b4 I die, itd be Red Summer or Servant and Master(Loathe).
red summer is my favorite from this album
15:37 enjoy
Listening to this is like eating Nutella out of the jar
So bloody Insane but a touch of regret
So wrong but oh so right?
Ahahaha best comment
Daniel Johnstone 😂
I don't think it fucking sucks on every single plan

is that true?
@@yourfavoriteidol3006 yeah there's an interview on RUclips with them and they mention it.
@iintellidjentt I said not knowing how to really scream. He wasn’t doing that at 8 years old.
Where We Go When We Die isolated vocals are hauntingly good.
Those harmonies at the start holy shit

the ambience in this album is what makes me love it, its just so easy to zone out to because theres so many sounds
Are we sure that its the actaul mix from full album? Like its a shitload of reverb I can imagin3 it cluttering the overall mix 🤷♂️
@@petrknedlik I sounds like it probably is. you won't be able to tell very easily on the full album because the instruments mask a lot of it
they might have just added for this version of the album.

Welcome to the church of Thornhill.

When they said this was happening I was like... what for???
I was wrong and dumb and stupid and dumb, this is now my whole religion wtf

The GOAT has entered the chat.
Cover of coven with these vocals on top?
Yo do another cover by these guys again!
Tab for his vocals?
Jacob vocals are kinda hypnotic, you start to listen to him and find yourself in a trance.

This definately changed my perspective about this album (already love it but now I love it more).
Jacob is amazing vocalist
The outro on Where We Go When We Die is simply black and white.
A bliss to listen to!
Sweet Idea ! Love this ! I never realized that he did so many harmonies on the record .
the ambient work is just incredible!
the last minute or so of The Haze is just unfathomable, I love this bands vocal style so much.
That’s my favourite moment of the album, those last three words with the guitars chugging away is bliss
I never get tired to listen the whole album all over again
That's Jacobs sister on coven. Great genes clearly lol
His brother is the guy from the music videos too

Apparently it's Jacob's sister (taken from another comment)
Wow, this is amazing. I’m all for the instrumental albums that have been getting dropped but this is different. Jacob’s voice is brilliant.
How could anyone hear these isolated vox and say that the vocals do a disservice to the final mix? They're full of raw energy!
