    The Spaniards are patient with people who can’t speak Spanish, they are not like the British, who have zero patience with people who can’t speak English visiting the UK,. Unfortunately, only young people in Spain speak English, in general. In every city there are food centers and they don’t close until 2100 o 2130.

    Thanks for doing your show. We hope to be moving there soon. I’ve worked down there numerous times and Spain is an amazing place. We’d love to come back and actually live there this time.

    Well Taylor, I say you did pretty good! I'm a Retired Chief that has been here for almost 40 years, so If you need to pick my brain (not infected with Alzheimer's yet), fell free to ask. Siestas, by the way are from 15:00-17:00 daily even though the stores close earlier. Overall, very informative and you did a great job! Enjoy your time here!

    Thanks for the info! There's a big change the hubby and I will be moving to Spain (fingers crossed!) and we'll know officially in the upcoming months. I was wondering though, what's it like among the military community? Do people look out for one another and hang out together, as in is it more of a closer community vibe since it's a smaller port? Just hoping I can find some adventure buddies when the ships go underway!

    • @taylormitchell2130
      @taylormitchell2130  3 года назад

      Yay hope you guys make it over! I think the sense of community just depends on which ship you get attached to! Ours does not have an FRG and none of the families ever plan anything, sadly. But I know some other ships here are better! I’d say as a whole, the community is pretty helpful! Especially in that Facebook group!

    Thank you for making these videos for all of us! Can I ask if you know of any Marines stationed there? We are a military family and would love to get stationed there but would likely need to swap with a Marine that’s leaving (I think). Thank you SO much

    Thank you for the video! I have three questions for you. 1. My family is PCSing to Rota in Sept/Oct. We usually PCS in the summer, will PCSing in the fall really limit our housing choices? 2. Do you know anything about the hospital community? Maybe there is an Oakleaf chapter there? 3. What do you think about Chipionia? I would love to get the name of your runner. It is too early to contact anyone, but you know how it is when you are planning everything out in your head. Thanks again for the info.

    • @taylormitchell2130

      Hello!!
      1. I didn’t live on base so I can’t really answer to that
      2. I’ve never heard of Oakleaf but I can tell you that under tricare you pretty much have to go on base. I had terrible experiences with the naval hospital there. Their corpsman can’t do basic things like take your BP and are rude. The doctors would tell me to basically just ignore my health issues and it’ll go away. So just want to get your expectations in place! I actually did do my dental out in town because it was like $50 and they actually had customer service and cared to help me.
      3. Chipiona is fine, we initially wanted to live there but decided on Rota because there’s just not many Americans in Chip. One one hand, that’s nice because you have more privacy. On the other, there’s less English speakers and it’s harder to make friends. Parking is terrible in the summers so it makes it harder to see friends or have friends over. The population literally triples in summers.
      Yes you can have my runner! Just message me on Instagram and I’ll send you his number. I’d message about a month out to schedule a day with him. We scheduled ours the day after we arrived. Hope that helps!

    Great video, what is the sponsor thing for? Will I need it there if the hubs isn’t there ?

    • @taylormitchell2130
      @taylormitchell2130  3 года назад

      Thank you!! So the spouse sponsor will be incredibly helpful. It’s a spouse that lives here already and has gone through the transition into Spain and gone through training as well. She will help make sure you have your paperwork in order. Mine picked me up from the airport when I landed, made my hotel accommodations, gave me tons of helpful info on how things work in Spain, got me a mailbox set up, held some of my belongings for me that I mailed her before the move, etc. So she’s basically there to support you through the transition!! I think she’ll be especially helpful if your husband isn’t accompanying you on the move! Your husband can ask his command about getting you a sponsor!

    Is it hard for military spouses to find jobs in Rota?

    • @taylormitchell2130
      @taylormitchell2130  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t know anybody that has one. If you want one on base it’s super competitive. They have laws there that say for every American they hire on base they have to hire like 5 Spaniards or something like that. So there’s not very many on base at all. If you want one out in town you’d definitely have to be fluent in Spanish. But if you are it may be possible! I’m not sure how you go about it at that point.
