At a lecture some years ago, a French architectural historian said that he thought St. Paul's was more beautiful than St. Peter's both inside and out and he added that the English didn't deserve it. I think the English do deserve it.

Thank you for posting this excellent lecture. Why destroy Jones's portico, couldn't Wren have recycled the Corinthian columns?

Salvatore Escoti it does indeed. The difference between the St. Peter's and St. Paul's is quite subtle on the exterior. Internally, St Paul's has a three dome structure, with timber being the external dome and one masonry conical shape supporting the lantern on top and another to compliment the interior. So there you go.

The only thing worth seeing in Italy is Roman or Christian churches the rest is about as thought-provoking as a walk through Manchester. Food is awful too so thats also a myth. wine mmmm sour on the main and people very arrogant but cowards at heart. Merry Christmas Italy hope you pull it back round.

St Peters in Rome is a replica of St Paul. It copied St Paul architecture.

My good man, are you in a stable frame of mind? St. Peter's in Rome was begun in the 1500s and St. Paul's was built after the London great fire of 1666! Did you do your research?

Rogers Hadao - May I ask: what’s your take on the whole ‘flat earth’ thing?
