As the first and only Black valedictorian of my high school, I earned full scholarships to over thirty PWIs. My teachers, counselors, and peers thought I was crazy to attend an HBCU when I had what they voiced were, "much better options!" However, I opted to attend a wonderful HBCU, Alabama A & M University, where I found an authentic sense of community, acceptance, and felt the greatest sense of pride as a Black female while gaining a stellar education. In this post-Trump era where young people most acutely feel the brunt of these societal woes, HBCUs are most needed and are the obvious choice for academic advancement. To those young gifted and Black scholars, I commend them on their great decision that will positively reverberate through your entire life!
Well said.
Congrats to you, HOW HARD is it understand that the youth of this day are not really ready to hold their head down and just push on as their parents or grandparents HAD to - because they were the other in the predominately white institution.
Blacks are inherently more loving, more tolerant and more acceptant of other ethnic, religious, or cultural differences because of the history of having to fight just to have their humanity acknowledged.
You made a wise choice. You decided to go where you are celebrated, not tolerated.
I attended a state college, I was the only black person in most of my classes. If I missed a day the instructor would always have an extra point quiz. I was a dedicated student near the top of the class, which didn't sit well with the instructor or the other students.
@@keithwebb87 well said, friend, celebrated not tolerated❤
They now fear that the blue-chip black athletes will start choosing HBCUs, which will diminish the competitiveness of their basketball and football teams, thus decrease their revenue. This is all about the fear of them losing money, not genuine loving concern for our kids' educational opportunities.
Exactly.
They should please do.
Change the narrative for HBCUs.
The best place to hit the man is in the pockets absolutely 💯
especially on the back that Sanders has done in coaching
And that is exactly the reason! Money. That's all Black folks are good for to them - the money the white establishment can get out of them.
I went to both and I noticed at my HBCU, the professors truly cared for their students.
Same here, undergrad at an HBCU(Alcorn) and grad school (university of TN) and it was a profound difference.. it made me realize how blessed I was to attend a HBCU
That’s why students don’t graduate in hbcu?
@@treythomas2817 main reason is financial constraints. Wanna help?
I went to both as well Old Dominion University (undergrad) and Norfolk State University (grad school). There's also a difference in the student body culture. The micro and macroagressions Black students face from their fellow classmates are also challenges at PWIs.
YUP.
This generation not only going to HBCU's but many are not looking for a job, but creating their own businesses
THATS RIGHT! I’ve woken up for damn sure and I’m 38! By early 40’s I plan to not be an employee ever again.
I am sooo happy that "our" young men and women are going to HBCUs. It's a wonderful experience for them to connect with their own people, embrace mutual culture and discover what true UNITY is. Love it!
Wait, discover “unity” at an all black school???
Ignorance is blind! And how racist is this!
It should be common sense to them, WHY our kids are choosing HBCUS...
Of course it is racist and jealous that HBCU has increased enrollment. They must have good courses to offer bright black students. As a white man, I can see the racism in his question and it is great that the students can get a good education.
The worst thing they want to see is black Universities coming up and rising to the top !all these attacks against our universities by these white people and white establishment is the truthness of Their fear they have been trying to hinder us for years and now they cannot stop them and now they're throwing a hissy fit but these young people are choosing to be accepted by schools that will benefit them more rather than a quota system that does not accept them nor nurture their spirits!
@@robertvysther1138 you're not White, nor a man.
Justice has never been blind
It sees color perfectly well
I thought that was a demeaning question.
It dripped with condescension.
This lawmaker is clearly out of touch and lacks awareness of his own bias.
Oh it surely did
Well , look at him and you shouldn't be surprised.
Bullseye 🎯
Don't be surprised if a bill is passed to defund HBCU...
Beautiful, the increase of "our" children coming together love it!
Damn right it's beautiful fam
Love and Intelligence.😊
Me Too!
I am forever grateful to the HBCU that my son graduated from. Initially he was doing poorly in class distracted by other things but his professors saw he was struggling and helped him get back on track because they cared. If he had been at a PWI, he probably wouldn't have earned a degree and be a successful professional today. My daughter also graduated from same HBCU and earned a PhD two years ago from a PWI, but her undergrad and masters were received from HBCU'S.
I love her Smile; the whole time She was speaking...
When "separate but equal" slaps you back in the face!😄
🎯
Whew
Like a boomerang 🪃
LMAO
YEP.....They sure loved it when it was separate and unequal. They want us to segregate when it isn't beneficial for us.
Imagine if we do the same with BANKS, GROCERY STORES, HOSPITALS, DENTISTS, RESTAURANTS, HAIR STORES, etc we could rule America!
Absolutely ❤
That is their biggest nightmare!!! That we turn inward as a people & eat, live, grow, & marry each other & build our communities!
Just as we used to rule the whole world, but u may not know about that!!
That would be a power move that would be a unity move, that would be a about time moment, that is a beautiful move, that is we can continue to move like That so cool 😎 I'm loving this.
Exactly ❤
I graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1993. It is a HBCU. What he does not know, A HBCU feel like a home away from home. Many of the professor told my mother we are going to take of your baby,
Facts C/O 2011. I had employees and professors who knew by family and made sure that I was straight
The powers that be just fined your school for going over their imposed cap. There was a record amount of enrollment this fall there.
My sons went to Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama & the administrators & educators told me the same thing!
Absolutely the truth. It feels like family.
Aggies !!! ‘02😊
I’m so glad that I chose to attend an HBCU … Grambling State University ! Not only was I educated and earned a degree, but I also learned so much about Black people who made contributions to this country and the world that I had no idea of. I’m from Louisiana and was taught Louisiana history. But unbeknownst to me, a lot of our (Black) history was left out. For instance, Louisiana had a Black governor named P.B.S. Pinchback. That part of history was not in our history books. If not for one of the men’s dormitory at Grambling being named after him, I would have never known.
I'm glad she laughed
The way she laughed at him was priceless.😂
Clearly he’s not been checking the temperature of African American youth in this era. With ALL that’s happened over the years these young people have acknowledged what it means to be black and proud. They are “choosing” to do a life that honors them for the color of their skin instead of one that tolerates them to meet their diversity quota. Nourishment, like he said, is where they miss the mark.
Did you hear her say I got this
You made an excellent point!!!!!!
That part
They're panicking about losing money from government grants from these kid's and parents paying for the kids to go to these high end colleges that charge a fortune for a education it's pathetic as it shouldn't take money to have knowledge to be passed down from generation to generation it's pathetic what some of these teachers are paid at these top colleges it's ridiculous
0:58 He's bewildered because they plan usually work and his fraudulent concern really reads" Why do they want to go to these hbcus?"
I wish I had went to an HBCU. Going to predominantly white college as scarred me for life. I was a sheltered from racism and violence growing up in the inner city that I grew up. Once I entered a white college I encountered racism unlike anything I’ve encountered before. I became an introvert, I lost interest in school, people, family members and friends. Deep down I’m still having issues with what I dealt with some thirty years ago. My youngest daughter is trying her hardest to get into a HBCU. A pray that she makes it.
A friend of mine and myself got some history that prevented us from visiting the campus
I also wish I went to HBCU because I do not remember anyone from my college days, but I am glad my daughter went to a HBCU, and had a great experience and found life long friend. PVA&MU
I had the pleasure of graduating from a HBU Oakwood University. Those were some of the best years of my life! I made lifelong friendships and great memories! I hope your daughter is able to get into an HBCU as well.
@@kiishasmith5460 ditto. The best parts of my personal and professional support system are HBCU grads from my school and beyond.
Our family has had the same experience. Thank you for sharing.
Virginia State had freshman housing problem. However a neighboring college Richard Bland allowed them to use their forms. Morgan State had the same problem but they had to use hotels. Thanks Roland for bringing attention to this good problem that HBCUs are having!
He said it OUT LOUD. OMG!!!! I'm lost with words😮🙄🙄🙄🙄
Roland my granddaughter announced to the family that she will not be attending a white university. She has decided to attend an HBCU. She said she is tired of being marginalized and ignored and wants to attend a school where the people look like her and care about her.
Love this.
And not to mention the Asian students randomly mentioning test scores trying to get a reaction out of you.
That whit man was damn near speechless
Your grand-daughter is one smart cookie. Her reason is exactly why a lot of my friends went to HBCUs.
One of the best experiences in my life. May she be accepted and May she be successful and create fond memories. I’m a two-time HBCU graduate. If not too late, find a college tour group. We had one in MD that took us to about 8-10 schools to visit. My tour traveled through VA, NC, SC, GA, and AL.
Bret Farve also SHOWED us how it’s done and totally backed by the government/system. Note the silence?😮
YEP...Pretty Quiet about Brett. Wonder Why🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Every so often a quick and short story

mostly "CRICKETS"🤯
Knowingly stealing from undeserved poor people. Demons have ABSOLUTELY NO SHAME AND NO SOUL💩💩💩💩💩💩
very well said pure silence those hypocrites
Yep both him and his klansmen cronies STEALING the poor people's money when they desperately need it the most.
The good 'ol boy system in the south is what allowed Favre to get away with basically being allowed to drain money from the state of Missisippi that should have gone to poor citizens who really needed it. Instead, these good 'ol boys literally handed him whatever he wanted, knowing it was illegal to do what they did. He didn't "show anybody how anything was done"---let's get real about that.
They stop talking about what he did he hasn't paid back the millions he stole these most of these people have been demonic and they will never change. We must change how we fight our mortal enemy.
In my view the president was laughing too much in her response. These clowns dressed in suits always seem to think they should have the ability to control black children's minds. We don't owe him any explanation.
Maybe she was caught off guard, but I would have told him, we are simply doing what the other schools are doing, even while struggling without the funding.
Sometimes we laugh because we are trying not to say some other choice words. I've been there.
@@sonjatanksley5432 I have literally burst out laughing in someone's face, after they said something crazy to me. I couldn't control it.
That’s why she sitting there? To give answers and explanations even though he’s a racist piece of trash.
@@gregorywillis8400 always give the least amount of info. He 🤡 will do his best to turn her replies against the HBCU. She told him using social media more to reach students since covid, don't be surprise if he finds a way to short change the technology dept. She also mentioned the band program, which imo was a good answer.
But, I guarantee if she had said we have an outstanding STEM program or the best meteorologist course in the region, that 🤡 would be looking for ways to damage those programs.
Shouldn't be that way, but it is. She couldn't say our new students feel safer...not even worth arguing with him on this. Just keep reeling the new students in to the HBCUs
I went to a PWI that's in the top 10 schools in the nation, and I've always felt cheated that I didn't get a true college experience. My college friends and I often talk about the sense of community we missed out on. We always felt like we didn't belong, and that was on purpose... often told to us in our face by other students and even staff sometimes.
I'm so happy they are saying what they really think out loud
I lost out by NOT attending an HBCU. I went to a predominately white university and my Friends who attended HBCU’s had a much better experience. They made life long friends and continue to have a healthy network 35 years later.
Same here and I regret my decision. I encouraged my kids to attend HBCU's. They loved it and made life long friends. It's refreshing to hear them talk about the traditions and pride in their Alma maters.
I went to PW High schools in 9th & 10th grade. I had enough of that crap. My HBCU experience was priceless. Consider going to a CIAA tournament. They have something for every age group.
Same. I'm actually Canadian, and there was no way my parents or I could afford tuition at any HBUC , as well as room and board. So I stayed in Canada and did my studies here and had such a hard time finding organizations I felt comfortable joining, making life long friends , forming professional relationships with my professors , and now that I graduated, I have had an even harder time finding employment in my field even tho my grades are strong. Two years, and still no callbacks. I really hope I can afford to send my children to an HBCU if they decide to go to university, I know the connections they will make will help them be successful

You don’t speak for blacks
As a matter of fact I do speak for blacks. It sounds to me like some people need to go pray to their fake Right Wing Evangelical Church.
The black race was the first born on planet earth period. Deal with it.
Who wouldn't choose Us over Them???? All five of our children went to HBCUs. Best decision ever!!!!
When all these black music and sports celebrities along with businessmen hear this they should unite and get it done. It's a drop in the bucket for them.
Glad to see support for black colleges
They no longer want to deal with the environment of those “other” schools. What he is really asking is why don't the black students want to come to our majority white schools. What is wrong with us?
Bottom line
....that part! That would have been a great question to turn around and ask the White guy, "Why do you think Black learners are not choosing to go to the other universities?" Maybe if some students would have been there to tell of their experience and what factored into their decision making would have made an impact as well.
Exactly
Yep exactly 💯, time to move on ,mlk would be happy with this transformation
Exactly......and to be honest , we need our own schools for every education level. They just mad because they won't be able to indoctrinate our youth with white lies.
As a white personal I agree it’s about the money, always about the money. Roland, I’m so grateful your on here I came across you about a month or so ago. It’s open my perspective and understanding of black people. I’m grateful to be able to shift my thinking.
That is awesome. I am so happy.❤ love you🙏
This is what stars need to give to, this is what we need to do.
Why it took you so long cause the atmosphere changing wow
I'm so glad you did. Get your friends to do the same.
What makes you white?
We are beginning to come into our own.and that frightens the hell out of them
Exactly, white fear.
So .. when Whites get together for their own people, does that frighten you?
No not ever afraid of anyone
That old white guy claiming that a place might be too diverse clearly has no clue what the term means. Someone should tell him to look it the hell up and find out what it means.
Yep..wish I had gone to a HBCU. I make it my responsibility to donate to HBCU. So Proud of the HBCUS. Fortunately my son is receiving his Masters from Tennessee State.
I'm loving the fact that Angelina Jolie's daughter Zahara chose HBCU Spelman College. I bet that got him too.

Give credit to coach Prime. He’s the biggest force for change in black Americans history moving forward.
No he's not Bill Cosby is to credit for that Dion Sanders is a college football hype man.
Not at all. HBCUs have been growing and expanding long before he even though about showing up at JSU
Naw, these kids watch a lot of black boys being murdered growing up. This shift happened before Prime. He has just added some more value and direction needed. But racism drive this generation back home.
You better believe it!
He's a powerful figure......and I don't believe what you say it true.....can you back that up with facts?
Why are these wp checking us about loving ourselves and why are they mad that we don't want to put up with their racism?

I graduated from TSU in 1970 and I come back for many functions. Graduates send their children and family members . We been proud to be TSU: AOB, Delta Sigma Theta! President of Junior Class and we excel in all facets of our lives.
In 1976, my mother refused to send us to a predominately white High School…. She knew then how important it was for us to go to a School, where students looked like the Community we lived in!!! Our Teachers also grew up in our neighborhood! They knew, OUR PARENTS! They also attended, a HBCU! They went further than our text books went!!! We were so Blessed!!!✊🏾♥️🙏🏾

You got that right!!!! I think it's great. Go TSU! I love to see these HBCUs grow! My God son chose Bethune Cookman over several PWIs. He's loving it!!!
PWI have a massive drop in enrollment. salaries, 3rd party contracts (bookstore, food, merc store, security, even ID cards/fob by volume ) sports parking fees, and of course tuition = all banking on ENROLLMENT.
HBCUs are having the opposite issue... where to put the record amount of students enrolling in HBCU... POC enrollment is also high
**POC if Hispanic and Asian students are choosing HBCU = you have a massive demographic problem for PWIs if this is the trend. ONLINE classes is the only way forward to cut the cost of keeping these universities open. Campus life is not cheap to run without students $$input

It is so insulting. Apparently HBCU should not exist? He’s about controlling funds, and what goes on in the Blaque (Black) citizen’s community.
The one panelist may've been correct, the increase enrollment at TSU and oth HBCU's reduce the Federal $$ the PWI's get for the number minority students they have enrolled.

Hi , Mr Roland, and everyone else thanks for all you all do
Do they care when students choose PWIs but not HBCUs?
They care because they're losing funds and control over us.
Does he care when sports recruiters are hounding a sophomore high school student to come to Duke or Georgetown to play basketball?
This☝🏾
no, they don't care. there's always money underlining this. rarely good intentions aka wanting the best for black people.
Many Black people are sending their young college students abroad to become educated professionals.
More and more people of color are not the first in their families to get a degree.
Tennessee State isn't doing us any favors and nowadays we can easily take our business el$ewhere.
There needs to be more alumni paying back to their HBCUs.
You’re correct, but when HBCU’s produce 50% of the Black teachers, the additional money may not be available. However, every little bit counts.

These PWIs don't want Black students there; especially with this affirmative action ruling. Why should Black students go in an environment who devalues them. I hope this trend continues.

So now our "promises" are AGRESSIVE" ? This is alarming on so many levels.
It's likely a combination of family tradition, marketing, comfort in a now hostile country, the band traditions, and the Deion Sanders effect in regards to sports. All of those are the reason for the rise in enrollment.
Exactly.
The saddest part is that it's not the minority students he's concerned with, it's with the quota's and funding (money), for him.
Until they overturn parts of Affirmative Action...
Peter 8488 Well, they spent all that money on Critical Race Theory based DEI experts who said they know how to make more diversity. They don't. Proving again what a waste of time and money all those DEI programs are.

NC A&T just got millions stripped from them for being too popular. 😡
NCA&T lost about 2 millions because they recruited a few too many (172) Out of State students according to NC laws.
Punishing us for progressing, demons..
We are happy they are coming back home.
I think that two of the scariest experiences we go through as black people is 1) being told by our relations that there are certain people who, simply because we are black, will advocate for our oppression and 2) to actually experience it. “Too much diversity?” Dude should be fired.
Speechless Roland!
Black students are going where they are wanted and valued!
I like how she just laughs at him
It's giving "Sound the Alarm" they're coming together!
1. Possible translation: UTC needs more black student athletes to improve our team rankings in basketball and football.
2. Possible translation: You are taking too many black students from UTC which needs a certain percentage of black students to maintain funding.
Roland man just want to say thank you
I'm from Nashville and this man is crazy
Good for those students for picking a school that represents who they are and who they want to be! Congrats Dr. Glover for doing an amazing job!!!
Dr. Glover handled that "ole ignorant fool" masterfully!🤣🙌🏾
Thank God for brother Martin, he takes the love of teaching us to a different level, most of have gotten tired of explaining, or trying to teach bigots about their racism and ignorance. We are a forgiving people on some levels but are able to accept marginilization of our accomplishments in spite of the attempt to hold us down. We gone be alright. Your namesake would be proud BROTHER MARTIN
Are not able to accept (had to correct) marginilization.
I love the statement coming back home....Rappers, Athletes, Actors...your turn
Often students go where the feel welcomed, where they fit in.
I didn't know of HBCU when I entered college many moons ago and I wish I did. Now, am re-educating myself. I see fear in him, wondering what are we going to do without the "black donor dollar". The don't want us, the want the money. When we as "black" people begin to put our money together and support us, it's fearful to "them".
They always feel they need to keep an eye on us
Its not just they money! They really can't believe Black people would choose Black people over white people. They think they are superior and it blows their mind when Black people reject that notion.
Keeping it real young people of color are not asleep these schools represent these young people culturally. Given the temperature around this country why not go to a school that looks like them and understands the need of the young people who have chosen to go to HBCU’s. Make no mistake people can C what’s happening here in this country. It affects everyone. America has work to do. Great choice young people for going home.
HATS OFF TOOO MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS 💯
