Christ, My Resting Place

Roughly a year and a half ago I was walking the campus of Ashland Theological Seminary and I went into the Ronk chapel. I remember feeling a bit discouraged, so I sat down at the piano in the chapel and the words of St. Patrick's breastplate started to flow as I played. This would become the inspiration for this hymn. Songs are often like that, they take a little while to mature - and for me, they have special meaning. The lyrics of this hymn are some I pray will take hold in local churches as congregations learn and sing with longing for Christ. Our resting place doesn't reside in a fanciful cloud-filled other world - it is the substance and evidence that is Jesus.

Christ before me,
making sure each step I take.
Christ is in me,
Christ above me,
calling me to my resting place."

“HE IS OUR RESTING PLACE”
As our journey on this earth comes to a close, our hope rest IN HIM knowing according to HIS WORD that HE conquered death, hell, and the grave from whence HE ROSE.
As we lay this weary body down and we've traveled the last mile, the SON sets on our earthly RESTING PLACE, there is no fear of death , HE will walk with us as HE OVERSHADOWS US WITH HIS ETERNAL GRACE.
As our journey comes to its close don't forget, it's only temporary as our broken physical bodies must be sown in its earthly RESTING PLACE. Our spirit and souls will take fight into eternal time & space,where we will forever be in the ESSENCE of HIS PRESENCE and we WILL see HIM face to FACE.
The time has come to take your last breath and close your eyes for the last time but don't be afraid. HE said HE'D walk with you through that valley of the shadow of death and lead you all the way HOME TO YOUR FINAL ETERNAL RESTING PLACE…
