As a Jamaican-American raised in Amerikkka I appreciate you stating #1. Lots of Africans and Caribbeans living in Black-countries think we are exaggerating about the intense, hostile, inhumane anti-Blackness that exists in every layer of society. It makes life 1000 times harder and it explains why many Black people here have mental health and physical health issues. Which is why many of us are reverse-migrating to the Caribbean or Africa or other places. God bless you. Thank you for the honest truth telling.
I want to live double places. I want to live half of the year in Jamaica and half in United States. I like both places for different reasons. This is something I'm really working towards.

Really happy I found this channel, you earned a sub. I agree with you on the competition aspect; Jamaicans don't fully understand the nature of global competition. I have lived and worked outside of Jamaica and the competition is fierce. Jamaicans don't understand or appreciate how good they have it. There are opportunities here in Jamaica but so many have convinced themselves that they have to leave to make progress that they don't want to even consider anything here. interestingly, many who recently went to Canada are learning the hard way how bad it can get when the people want you out of their country. I agree that quality of life is so much better here (if you know what you are doing). Being poor in north America can be horrible. You can easily end up homeless living in a tent in the freezing cold as some illegal immigrants in New York are discovering and can't even find the fare to go back home. For some people its a trap. Thanks for your perspective, we need more people talking about this.

Hello, you know how funny life is, I move back to Jamaica now for almost 3 yrs after being away for @0 yrs but everyday now I look for somewhere else to move to..Jamaica is not for everyone ,,all the best. By the wsy, I was born and raised all my life in Jamaica and left in my Kate thirties and back now.
@authentic_tone I moved back to Jamaica in April 2022 after living in America for almost 36 years. I love my Parish and where I live in the countryside. It was one of the best decisions I made because of the weather, natural fresh fruits, and just a relaxing peace of mind. Please just make sure you have your own home and resources before you make the move. Best wishes on your desire.
Please start visiting in increments and staying on short visits before moving at one go. Aclimatize yourself to the culture, shopping, going to the markets, supermarkets, shops, stores etc., using the local currency, banking, money exchange, using public transportation, if you cares to (not so much the taxis) going to restaurants, movies and plays. Attending various concerts and parks etc. etc. That's what I 've been doing and enjoying every bit. Good luck.
We are Jamaican’s living in Canada, we work good money with reputable companies but stress from our busy work life. I can connect with every aspect you touch on. We bought a nice little house in a gated community and planning to return home in 12 years. I’ll be 55 and my wife 52 but will be able to come back home and live a simple life without ever working again and get to be with family and friends. We may even think about selling our house in Canada depending on how much we love it
Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on your accomplishments in Canada. I know you will enjoy living that simple life you describe in Jamaica. Just keep your circle tight and you will be great. If possible you can rent you home in Canada to have some more passive income coming in as well and then vacation thier in Summer if you use short-term rentals. That way you get the best of both places as summer in Canada is really nice.
Hi Odetta. I'm subscribed to both your channels, but I have to say I'm loving this unedited one a lot. You are such an nspiration and I'm glad you have had such wonderful opportunities both outside and inside Jamaica. Big up yourself ❤
I left Jamaica as a child to live in the UK. I didn’t experience too much racism there. Now I believe things are changing fast. I lived in Jamaica for almost a decade of my adult life and it was the best time of my life. I have been living on the continent of Africa now for 5 years across 4 different countries and have experienced more racism on the continent of Africa from people that look like me than any of the other 14 countries I have been to. I have experienced violent situations in Jamaica, but was never hurt. That didn’t bother me. The formulae for safe living in Jamaica as anywhere in the world is to maintain a tight circle and revolve your life around safe destinations and activities. The only thing that bothered me in Jamaica was the huge threat of earthquakes that I often had dreams about. But in any disaster I would prefer to be around Jamaicans we are the best at navigating difficult situations. Our culture, food, energy is the best I have experienced around the world and everyone who has been there says the same.
Really you experienced racism in Africa? From who? Black Africans? For one it can’t be racism if it’s from another blacks person. You can experience racism from other races. It’s interesting as I’ve seen quite a few videos of African -Americans who’ve e moved to Africa. They said it was nice to not experience and racism in Africa but again it’s not possible to be racism from two people who are both of African descent. Whereas in the US they experienced racism. There was other issues in Africa but no problem because of their skin color.
@@jahmallajaima RACISM DEFINITION: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized. Probably in every African country you go to they have a derogatory name they give to white people and if you are not from Africa they will call you the same name.
@@SunDown950 so key words are “ typically one that is a minority “ so minorities are Asian, Hispanic and black White people isn’t in that group. So then whites would be the racist. Kind of hard to say any minority would be racist against whites. You don’t put anything in here about whether a person of the same race could be racist against someone else of the same race.
Yes to the culture and lifestyle it is so relaxing and therapeutic. I snow here is t other next level, summer is over and I'm not looking forward to the winter.
Well done, well spoken Jamaican queen. I endorse everything you say. Thirty-seven years ago, I chose Barbados over Canada, having completed my degree. My relatives in Canada frowned on me, but there are no regrets. Like you, I love my country and the wider Caribbean. We are blessed on this part of the globe. I was privileged to visit your island on three occasions with my job and enjoyed your fineeeee Jamaican hospitality. I am hoping to visit some day as a tourist....lol. Continued success to you.
Miss god let your video pop up in my face to show me a sign, I am a 38 yr old Jamaican and was living in jamaica all my life operating my own business an doing my thing, wasn't the richest but everything was alright, recently got filed for by my mum in the US but after only 2 months I am here thinking of switching my green card for a visiting visa, the same way u think, the places u would live, the same reasons u love jamaica that's how I love it . I was very inspired by your video it's like god wanted me to here it.❤❤
Those reasons are absolutely, thoroughly beautiful Odetta. I enjoyed this. I also grew up eating from every fruit trees in my humble neighborhood..80s; Extended family unit; barefoot to school and all that. I used to travel a lot..being a part of a gospel band. I chose however, to raise my family here and I have no regrets. Stay true. God bless 🙌 🙏.
Wow that’s awesome. I wish all of us who have migrated would look at it like this. Although I am one of them. I live here in Florida but I would choose living in Jamaica than anywhere else in the world because of some of the very reasons you have stated. I will return someday though. Too many of us take our good selves and come abroad and ruin it.
Good morning: to you for your insight about moving back to Jamaica , that’s is my dream to do so, I’m so depressed living in new York; I migrated from the age of 15, and now I’m 58 th. First of all my first fews years living in New York I was face with racism, it wasn’t nice, then the cold is horrible and it gets worse over the years. So now I’m just ready to go back to my country where I was born and raised.
❤I want to do the same. I miss my Island. I’ve served in the military here 23 years. I want my children to grow up know the culture. You motivated me to do more, do better. Also reset my spirit. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🦾🦾
Awesome, clearly communicated of your choice. This is where belongs to all Jamaicans and it’s even better if opportunity comes to you on the rock🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I absolutely LOVED how you explain "violence" and "who" gets caught up in it, at the start of this video. You are so on point with that. Thank you. I also LOVES this Video in general. I love how you look at things. There are many reasons why I want to move back to Jamaica, and your list includes a lot of mine. In fact, were it not for me having a child late in life, I would have been only 5 years away from moving back....but, guess I have to wait a bit longer. The cool thing is, my wife is an American, and she wants to live in Jamaica also; we come back often. One day, we will....though we may do it as a "part time" thing, because of family and friends here in the USA that we want to see and be with regularly.
Hi Odetta, I am living in the UK and I do wish I could come back home and enjoy life because if you have financial freedom, the quality of life in Jamaica is much better than many places, including the UK IMHO! I do like your chat, this is the 1st video of yours that I have watched but you had a good sprinkling of truth and insights that i can relate to. Just wanted to say thanks for the video and to say keep going!
Hey Dave, you are correct about life being better in Jamaica when someone has financial stability. Thank you for watching and I appreciate you sharing your insights. You are most welcome, my dear. I’ll do my best to keep going and all the best to you.
I am with you. That was my experience at Mount Alvernia students from all over the world but experienced racism in the US. I have travelled all over but no where like home. I live quite comfortably in Jamaica, travel and when it comes time to come home i cant wait to get back. You are right the quality of life is top notch. I concur with you on all the reasons you stated . Shopping was a big reason to tvl but now internet shopping makes that less desirable. 🖤💚💛
My dear, beautiful, fellow yardie: I am currently living in the Atlanta area of the US. I am Jamaican (my parents are Jamaican) but was born and raised here. I spent my toddler years in Jamaica and visited when I was 12 (back in the 1980's). Ever since my aunt that raised me died not too long ago, I have missed being in close proximity to my culture (my husband is American). As I watched your video, tears formed in my eyes because in my heart I often ponder going there and maybe even having a second home there (which is still a possibility, God willing). Every reason you stated for staying there resonated with me because those are the same reasons I want to go back. Thank you for this excellent video. Wishing you much success in your endeavors.
Odetta, thank you for the video. Your reasons make me wonder why I'm looking for a new country to call home. I haven't visited Jamaica yet, but it's in the plan.🥰
Living in Jamaica comes down to your finances, safety and healthcare. You must have a decent income or savings to survive there. You also have to make sure youre in a safe community with good neighborhood or family support.

Thanks for sharing Odetta. I am Jamaican and have lived in the US since I was 9 y.o. I have vacationed, many times and stayed with family members and my husband and I would go shopping, we even found a fav coffee shop that also sells delicious baked goods...love it! However, when I went to the bank, and saw the guard with a long weapon (not sure of the make) at the door I stopped in my tracks. However, now I have become accustomed to it - I am no longer bothered by it. I do better in cities when I travel than in rural or country areas. Yes, I am a city girl, born in Kingston. Jamaica is always nice.

My sister I love your vibes my wife and I working on moving back home ,,,, thanks my sister you make my day
Odetta, one day for sure, we're going to meet. I'm Zambian and don't need a Visa to visit, Jamaica. Hasta la visita!
I miss the weather and food from Guyana. Just like Jamaica.
🇬🇾
Thank you for debunking some of the negative narrative about Jamaica. You are a true Patriot. One love.💯❤️❤️❤️❤️🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Thanks!
thank you as well.
Hi Odetta. I'm subscribed to both your channels, but I have to say I'm loving this unedited one a lot. You are such an nspiration and I'm glad you have had such wonderful opportunities both outside and inside Jamaica. Big up yourself ❤
Thanks for your support in subscribing to both. Your comment is humbling. Nuff love and blessings to you my dear.
Great seeing you Odetta, didn't realize you had a channel. Moving back soon 🤞🏾 didn't realize you went to my sister school
Jamaica is a beautiful place love the food the people and culture
You is a big fool
Wow, the cultural practices in Africa can indeed be very different from the West.
I don't want this cold to be beating down on my back anymore, I'd rather be taking shade from the sun
Right Desso ✅️
Yes to the culture and lifestyle it is so relaxing and therapeutic. I snow here is t other next level, summer is over and I'm not looking forward to the winter.
I can imagine. Stay warm my dear.
I would love to hear you talk about healthcare in Jamaica. That is usually one of the major concerns when considering moving back home to JA.
I’m a Jamaican living in the US, and I appreciate this Video
Your home is beautiful…. I think it is a great thing to be proud of who you are, and where you come from. ❤
You make me want to keep talking because you are saying everything I've been preaching to my friends abroad
So nicely put ... You're shedding gems here in this this brilliant overview, Odetta.
Well done. I feel the same way about Jamaica. I love, love it
Thank you so much for sharing your story ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏽
You are so welcome. Thanks for watching.
Watch your video love it love your way of thinking much love ❤️
Great points! I think you made a great choice and I fully agree with you, that’s why I decided on the countryside of Panama!
Thanks for sharing my Alvernia sister. You are so right about that shopping.
Good for you! You chose well in my opinion,.There is nothing like home. Enjoyed this video!
Wow you are just one of the smartest Jamaican I watch on here👏👏👏
This so true i am planning to go back home too i love my Jamaica
Odetta, thank you for the video. Your reasons make me wonder why I'm looking for a new country to call home. I haven't visited Jamaica yet, but it's in the plan.🥰
Thank you for being an
amazing mentor, and

Life Choices ❤
Living in Jamaica comes down to your finances, safety and healthcare. You must have a decent income or savings to survive there. You also have to make sure youre in a safe community with good neighborhood or family support.
Not true..
@@dahliashakespeare-di9gpits true
@@dahliashakespeare-di9gpthere’s a huge difference between “uptown” and “downtown”…don’t play yourself. I’m a foreign national living in Jamaica and I see it and hear it daily. It’s costly to be broke on this island.
Jamaica is safer than the US in black discrimination, gun violence and police brutality. Mic drop
Believe me nowhere in the world is safe. It’s not safe in America, people get killed every single day.
I understand what you're saying, baby girl. My old family been in the United States since 1984 42 years. It's not easy.
Thanks for being so candid in sharing your experiences. ❤️🙏🏽🇯🇲🇺🇸
Youre so classy and poised, I really look up to you Mrs. Odetta! Every time I watch you, I get inspired!
Lots of respect to you for communicating what so many of us know but never took the time to organize and communicate it so well.
🙏🏼
I moved to Jamaica 🇯🇲, mainly for better air quality. Portland, Jamaica 🇯🇲 is the "garden of Eden" for me. I love the culture, food and climate. Yes, I am more comfortable around "melanated people." Now, I need to set up my business. 🌹
Salute sister queen. I love your perspectives.
Ms Odetta, you're speaking my language, 😅 if it was not for certain substances I would not be aboard, 😊
Nuh say another word... I understand. I saw that you have a RUclips channel so I subscribed and will be checking out your videos my fellow Jamaican.
I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud that you are a true jamaican 💗
Love ur positive energy.. great music by the way
GOOD MORNING ! I JUST HAPPENED TO OPEN UTUBE AND SAW THIS POST . I LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE SHARED ABOUT YOUR CHOICE OF LIVING IN JAMAICA 🇯🇲 , AND IT'S MY REASON TO ALWAYS LOVE , JAMAICA 🇯🇲 🇯🇲
