Oh, *sweet* Sam Sejavka, I love him *so* ! 'Round about the 2:43-minute mark of the video, he just looks *so adorable* , with his floofy dyed hair. This is such an adorable song, too: "The day's a treat and the night's a feast,/And I walk holding you,/And you can hold me too..." SQUEEE! Really, the Ears must have been the *cutest* - not just in looks but in sounds - of all the Melbourne punk bands. I mean, could you imagine, say, Ollie Olsen (let *alone* Rowland S. Howard) writing lyrics like "The day's a treat and the night's a feast"? I sure can't. Lines like "I burn this precious dinner to a crisp/And tear apart the final shopping-list..." have the same arch witty Absurdist tone as Young Charlatans lyrics like "After a fashion which is/Purely the mood that takes me,/I'll set my mouth on fire,/And kiss you 'til you blister..." - that same knowledge that only fools risk taking leaps for love - but I rather suspect that if Rowland S. Howard ever tried to sing a chorus that went "Happy! Happy! Happy! Ooh-ee-ooh!" (complete with backing handclaps), he'd shrivel up like a vampire in sunshine (and I say this as someone who absolutely *ADORES* Rowland, with all my heart). Anyway, all I really want to say is, thank you Sam Sejavka, for writing and performing this perfect pop song. I think you're a treat 😉💖😘.
First "The *Lolly* Hater" (🍭🍡), then "Leap for *Lunch* (🥗🥪) ." Were *all* the Ears's songs about food? Don't get me wrong, though; I love the Ears. It's just...rather odd of them. And was there something in the *water* in Melbourne, that gave rise to great white-hot rock'n'roll bands like this? The Young Charlatans, the Birthday Party, the Laughing Clowns, the Ears...Just amazing; all of them! And, come to think of it, I know perfectly well it couldn't have been the 🌊 ...From what I've read about Melbourne in the late '70's, I'm thinking it must have been the💉!
