In Avatar they don't really explain it but they're not there to destroy Pandora or colonize it they're there for a specific metal in the planet in the first movie they were trying to communicate with them and trying to get their permission to mine the medal from their planet however their species did not want to listen to us which in turn led to war the reason they're trying to mind the metal is it's needed for space travel

As much as you want to make a change, the damage has already been done and even so, there will be no change because the power is held by the industries. It's like a dwarf wants to fight a giant and even if many dwarfs join, the giant has giant friends who use dwarfs to hold you back. Because they just don't want to waste their time.
