Very powerful message! What went wrong? As wise people and leaders let us learn from our past mistakes and failures and improve upon it. I loved FTJ as a person but people make mistakes. However,it is important to note that we can pick the good side of this person for the benefit of the society.

The privatisation wasn't done in good faith as most of our parents lost jobs and were unable to take us to school. Further, in a bid to go for third term, most of his friends were eliminated. Politics is too temporary.

The problem was this. Only those who used to work in the mines and companies owned by the government benefitted from the national cake. Most Zambians lived in poverty.
ZANACO Bank, is a product of privatisation. Additionally, government sold homes to Zambians that were previously owned by the government.
Plus most companies were running loses, only had government milling companies. Privatisation brought jobs for Zambians and improved the quality of life in country.

This president was good with speeches but not so good with real transformation.. That privatization still hovers over our country still to this day..

@confab I appreciate what he accomplished but the focus was also on what he didn't do right.. I think it's healthy to look at what he didn't do right if we are to have a sober minded discussion on where this country stands in the economic outlook of things...

    • @ChilomboKansankala

@confab appreciate your admiration for our former president and his accomplishments . I too do acknowledge his accomplishments BUT that doesn't take away from the fact that he didn't handle that privatization issue properly and it only weakened the Zambian economy long term.. We do need to start having these types of conversations as a country if we are to make any progress moving forward into the next 30-50 years from today..

mmmmmm as it stands 2025, we still don't have any president who can speak like him. These slow to speak speak presidents we have now, are slow to think 😂😂😂😂

But what did his good & fast English speaking benefit this country save for the much talked about privatization which has left this country haunted. He was a good orator, take not that away from him. But he was too selfish and left more misery in the nation.
