    There is a way to save the red dot (red anodized aluminum disc). US Camera used to sell replacement red dots (Minolta part # 031-1074) for about $5. However, it looks like they're now out of stock (as of early 2023). The professional way to remove this screw with the dot and chrome bezel intact is to use a "pin vise" rather than pliers. The pin vise grips the bezel and removes it, usually with the screw and dot as one piece. The correct pin vise size for this screw and bezel is .050 to .125 inch (1.3 to 3.2 mm). Starrett makes a good one.

      An easier way is to use a dab of nail polish

    Thank you for the video! My SRT's film advance knob seems to have a bit of play even after the shutter is charged. The knob and the silver tab (at 14:01) still can rotate slightly. Would you please let me know if it is normal or how can I fix it?

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  3 года назад

      Hello Issac,
      It is normal if the play of the advance lever is very little, otherwise it is likely that the nut will need to be tightened a little more.

    Helpful. I have this job coming up on my 201. Are the screws JIS or Phillips?

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  3 года назад +1

      Hello Jon,
      They are Philips, if I remember correctly I used a PH000 screwdriver
      .

    • @granislav
      @granislav 3 года назад

      every Japanese camera uses a JIS standard. By using the PH bit you can ruing the screws. It's a noob error, don't use the PH like the author of this video. Please. You can go cheap and convert the bit like here, e.g. ruclips.net/video/7-fYLh5uet0/видео.html

    Thank you, sir. I have a tape in my viewfinder. It has numbers on it, like a scale: 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15... etc. Where does this come from and where does it go back to? Is it important?

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  4 года назад

      Hello J T,
      The red dot can be removed with a thick needle and you can stick it with any liquid glue that sticks to metal or plastic.

    • @dlyon9673
      @dlyon9673 3 года назад

      @@photographyandmore I'm wondering if you might be able to remove the screw with some needle nose pliers (with a rubber shield) and that way one can leave the red dot in place? I ask because somehow I'm sure I'd screw up the red dot removal and replacement.

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  3 года назад

      @@dlyon9673 Very good observation!, I have never tried it, but it sounds like it can work, as you say, being careful to cover the tip of the tweezers with some rubber.

    just got this camera and a lil scared to take it apart my view finder isn't too dirty but cant find info on if it'll effect my photos or not (VERY new to this lol)

    • @morrisgentry8624
      @morrisgentry8624 Год назад +1

      When viewing, the image light passes through the lens and strikes the mirror which reflects the image to the prism which is seen through the viewfinder. When the shutter is fired, the mirror goes up out of the light path and the image light passes through the lens and directly onto the film as the shutter curtains reveal the film. So no, dust in your viewfinder will not affect your image.
