I'm a 31 year old man, and EVERYTIME I hear this song I can't stop from tearing up...All the poet laureates of songwriting are leaving us...Guy was a national treasure...in my younger years I would never go and see any artist still playing in their twilight years, and now I'm kicking myself for it. In the past three years I've made it a mission to see people like Prine, Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver and Willie...even when I couldn't really afford it. I'm so grateful for those memories now and I'm hopeful people like Hayes Carll, Jason Isbell, John Fullbright, Todd Snider, Chris Stapleton, etc will do a good job bearing the torch. Though unlikely with a few exceptions like Isbell and Stapleton will get the recognition and notoriety the old guard did.
Well said pilgrim. I thought as you did that these early artist could never be matched. Yet the new ones step forward every generation. By seeing the choice’s you madeI knew that we traveled the same roads. BTW I’m a 72 year old traveler. I have grandkids that are traveling with us.
Finally someone playing something other than fiddle tunes and bluegrass runs. Salute! These are NOT the One trick ponies that many of these artists would lead you to believe they are. Sounds great!
I have had martins, guilds and old Gibson acoustics but I ended up back with Yairi. Luthier bench guitars for a fraction of the price of any of the above - that kind of quality would have been custom shop from the big brands and that would put them way beyond my budget.
My 20 year old HD28 is hands down the best sounding guitar I've ever played. I regret that I spent most of my life playing lesser quality guitars. Wish I would have bought a Martin much sooner.
man what a good song. "Ill Never Get Out of This World Alive" is a book written by Steve, I highly recommend it to folks who are into his music, his writing is second to none
I'm a bluegrass bandit, and Martin's are good but I prefer my Blueridge these days, just such a cacophony of sound each strum, just wonderful guitars what look great too. Try one to believe me I pick it over a Martin any day!
Nice playing, what mics did you use and could I use this setup through an acoustic amp ? I understand that feedback is always an issue but I only play at home at low level.
Steve won't answer questions on here but yes you can plug your guitar and mic into acoustic amp I've played gigs in bars with 40-50 people in the audience using just my Marshall as50 and it worked just fine for small venues any larger you'd mic the amp to a PA.
Maaaannnnn dont be dieing yet! There is anything much to do! So much to realize! Wake up guitar man! Its not over! Look up, become the cloud ☁️ you where promised to become! Abserve, lookout! Not for another clime, but for the wonder of it! Wonder about your life, your preset monent! Think with out sorrow eye! Open the thinking eye! Do not die! Do not give up!
I’m well aware that this was recorded beforehand. But I can’t help but get some vibes of grief in the lyrics. I hope you’re healing well, Steve. May Justin Rest In Peace.
Because the song is wrote for and about one of his mentors and best friends Guy Clark who died hence the song. Same when he wrote Fortworth blues for Townes Van Zandt his other mentor who died . This song obviously has nothing to do with JTE but his new album will.
D28's have heaps of bottom end, Michael Hedges favorite guitar, is that a Harley rack your sporting mate, cause the moon is out & you got heaps of bottom end.
Never really liked Steve earle music. He takes the Townes Vanz Zandt approach to song writing but Steve's lyrics just aren't the same as townes. Hank Williams SR was the closest thing to townes van zandt. Hank was better but both in the same league of song writing quality.
He must have attracted them in the first place and didn't worry about how his jeans fit. I could explain why the pants fit that way and they are pulled up. It is physics plain and simple. But, a longer shirt would have worked wonders and the photographer is to blame for the direction in which the video was taken. It was to not have the bright window light behind him but could have had him turn more to his right and move the camera to the left. The dumb lighting making a really dark Mic shadow on the beauty of the guitar. Sorry for all of this but as a photographer they could have so easily made this a better video all around.
This is a common problem...maybe he needs a bigger size? You should ask yourself instead; why don't jean manufacturers make them a little higher in the back?
"This guy" has been making his living as a singer-songwriter for 40 years (with a brief drug-induced hiatus in the 1990s), has several Grammys, and multiple albums and songs in the top 100 (including a #1 album). Don't think he needs a day job, or cares what you think about his voice.
Magnificent Mask: You are clueless. A good example of a nobody not knowing a single thing and living his life as a charlatan. Do your family and friends know that you are of full of crapola? Try learning a thing before opening your mouth.

Copperhead Rd was about the only great thing he did.
@timt6510 check out "Goodbye". Such a well written tune. Copperhead rd was definitely his biggest hit, but that doesn't mean it was the best he did.
A beautiful tribute to someone who meant a lot to him.
Thanks for posting, RIP Guy Clark.
I sang Copperhead Road at the Common Interest in Austin just before COVID hit, and the place lit up -- thanks!
That thing is like his voice, in guitar form. Very well matched.
Steve.. what a writer, singer and picker... Well Done!
I have a 2017 d-28 it sounds awsome martin continue to be the best luthiers on the planet
2017 Martin d28s are ok yeah but I have a Martin d28 - 2012, is a much better guitar, not just a one trick pony for sure!
@@mrtambourineman6107 The consensus from what I’ve read is that the new/reimagined is an improvement. No Martin is a one trick pony.
They’re a fun guitar!
Finally someone playing something other than fiddle tunes and bluegrass runs. Salute! These are NOT the One trick ponies that many of these artists would lead you to believe they are. Sounds great!
Beauty. Wish I could afford a beauty but still love my cheap ass guitars. Love to hear you talk about these instruments. Treasure your talent!
I have had martins, guilds and old Gibson acoustics but I ended up back with Yairi. Luthier bench guitars for a fraction of the price of any of the above - that kind of quality would have been custom shop from the big brands and that would put them way beyond my budget.
A true artist through and through. A true artist can make a simple progression produce something magical called music.
Is your broom worth $ 30,000
The Master. Paying tribute to the Master.
See you when I get there Maestro.
I don't think so.
My 20 year old HD28 is hands down the best sounding guitar I've ever played. I regret that I spent most of my life playing lesser quality guitars. Wish I would have bought a Martin much sooner.
I have brought a 2017 i love every sound it makes
The great Steve Earl playing a great guitar.
A really beautiful song and fantastic sound not to mention a great voice. Beautiful!
great sounds....both guitar and vocal chords
This guitar has a great tone.
I have a 39 0-17 and it is such a pleasure to play
Steve Earle is an absolute national treasure.
I discover him in the tv show "The Wire".A real artist
I love your music.Copperoehead Road!
Great Steve! See you when I get there too!
The Poet collecting Dust!
Beautiful song. I agree. Capo a D on the fifth fret and you get two an entirely different guitar for the same price.
Collings is the "New Martin". That saying is at least 15 years old. Hope to play some Adi topped boxes when I go down there soon!
I’ve got a 2004 Martin D28. Starting to sound really mellow and the Top is getting a deeper colour..paid fuck all for it from some bloke in Bradford
Great artist making it look easy.
man what a good song. "Ill Never Get Out of This World Alive" is a book written by Steve, I highly recommend it to folks who are into his music, his writing is second to none
Superb
Beautiful, guitar and playing.
This is great the intro glorify is fantastic loved it instantly the guitars just priceless nothing else incredible sweet clear overtones
..totally agree..love fingerpicking my '67 D-21..capo'd is sweet...
I'm a bluegrass bandit, and Martin's are good but I prefer my Blueridge these days, just such a cacophony of sound each strum, just wonderful guitars what look great too. Try one to believe me I pick it over a Martin any day!
Beautiful..
MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE NEW ALBUM GO STEVE!
The great Steve Earle, playing the great 39 D-28
Sounds great
Never stop loving listening to this....
Awesome 👍 Steve is a national treasure keep on Rocken Mr Earl !!!! Guitar's pretty awesome toooo
A tribute to the great Guy Clark, the Maestro.
Can he make a tutorial on how to play that beautiful song
He won't someone else may do.
He's a world renowned artist not a guitar teacher.
What does it weigh? My 2014 D-28 is built like a tank. Still sounds amazing, but.....
Magic.
I have had the same broom for 30 years. It has had 5 new handles and 4 new brush heads but it’s the same old broom. Is that like your guitar.
nice song... done well....
Wow, what a great song. Loved it. The guitar sounded like a guitar to me. Not bad, of course, but not mind blowing either. My 2 cents.
Over rated
Yeah!
That lad is starting to get the hang of this mind.
I salute you Guy
It’s the dude from The Wire!
Rock on buddy.
Wow! Both chords sound great!
No shit tearing it up.
He's no Michael Angelo !
I think the D-18s are better balanced than the D-28s.
I have to agree with you. Sure, Brazilian has the mystic but mahogany is superior for tone.
Bufff Que bueno
Out of curiosity, how much does that one cost? I have absolutely no sense of what those cost, other than "a lot"!
about 75k
Nice playing, what mics did you use and could I use this setup through an acoustic amp ?

Cheer up big guy

Steve Earle should've never sold that D-18, but would've, should've, could've.
Well he did get a '35 D-28 so....
great singer, I like your style
Video starts at 2:06
Suena estupendo Steve
D28's have heaps of bottom end, Michael Hedges favorite guitar, is that a Harley rack your sporting mate, cause the moon is out & you got heaps of bottom end.
New found respect for Steve Earle. He knows his shit for sure.
Am and what else? Guitar stand kind of blocked his left hand.
Martin's are the best...bar none!
Hey you should made that as job 😅❤
Went to see him in concert in a theater, he spent most of the time talking his liberal communist politics. Can I get my money back !!!
beautiful song
Did you leave it out of tune on purpose?
Why what string are you saying is out ? I've played 40 years sounds fine to me.
Killer!
I like go with Marilyn Manson at Mexico❤❤❤
At home
You want someone new that has these songwriting qualities check Bob LeFevre.
#boblefevreandthealreadygone

Steve.. I love your music and that's an incredible guitar but pull your pants up...
That's great advice , if Steve took that advice he might not have so many Alimony payments to make now . Lol
How's the view on the Crevice Cam?
He must have attracted them in the first place and didn't worry about how his jeans fit. I could explain why the pants fit that way and they are pulled up. It is physics plain and simple. GNR194 BA lol at a certain age we just say “fuck it”

If I have 75.000 spare I wouldn’t use it to buy a guitar.
Well that's you but many people do. You can get great guitars for a lot less than 75k.
K. YAIRI SOUNDS BETTER
Hmmm, your M-36 might sound better for this tune. Thanks.
And its also comes with free fret buzz.
LOL
Thank god you can get a 100$ china box at any given time now.
This guy's singing is painful to listen to. Are we supposed to know who this is?
Pre-war Martins are pre-war Martins.
What an insight 🤪
Talk about taking one line out of context.it doesn't make his statement sound dumb, but you maybe.
mbsnyderc
You said sounding dumb - not me.
Idiot.
Steve Earle peaked in 1976... he's been nothing, since...
There seem to be a lot of differing opinions. So, I would say you are probably wrong.
Hack.
Drunk?
No. Clean and sober for 23 years in 2017
Sorry my 2007 d28 sounds better
i like his playing but this guy should not quit his day job and be banned from singing

Can't tell if trolling...
He makes about 10k a show for 2 hours how about you ?
You, my friend,,, are an idiot!! Douchebag... good day too you, sir ! Cant believe you kids havent heard of S. Earle
