Thank you for the demonstration, I’ve just stopped wearing my surgical boot after 3 weeks since having a moderate ankle sprain but I still feel the need of extra support. Your video has helped me to apply it correctly xx
Hi John, I have just done this taping technique on a friend. He said it felt comfortable and provided stability so thanks. One thing about the video, it would be good to see the other side of the ankle to make sure we know the full technique. Thanks Karen
Would be really nice to get to see the other side of the ankle, there... Question: I understand why one would apply the first two long i-strips in that direction if they were coach tape strips. Wouldn't you want to apply them in the opposite direction to keep that ankle stabilized? If I tape a shoulder in a retracted position from scapula to right in front of the gh-joint, I wouldn't go front to back, I'd go back to front. Just asking, not trying to be a smart-ass.
My son is a high school senior wrestler. He sprained annkle and kindda hurt knee last week wrestling. He does not want to take a break and still going to practice. Ankle is a little puffy, just a little bit though. Knee not swollen but is unconformable. Anyways he can use tape and use compression sleeves at the same time? If tape comes off when taking a shower can he just use compression sleeves during the whole day to reduce swelling?
This worked great on my right ankle but it feels like my left ankle need the opposite kind of support (stuck in the opposite of the right). Do you have a video for that?
Hard to comment without looking at your Mum - could be a simple sprain of the ankle that she might not even remember doing. Try the simple rest ,Ice, compression, elevation as that will help and some anti inflammatories if the swelling persists. Regards JG
Hi John I have been advised by my podiatrist to wear an aircast for 4 weeks after an inversion sprain. Bruised and swollen. Can I use this taping method while using the boot? Or would this just be for support after the boot is off? Thank you!
Fellow orthopedic nurse here. You can use the kt tape after you are done with the boot to still give you extra stability. An aircast boot has quite a bit of support on its own so you don’t have to use both simultaneously
I had a grade3 ankle sprain without any avulsion fracture and my doctor advised me pop cast for 10 days can I apply k tape after removal of pop for ankle stability
Thank you so much john for the video.Do you think i can use this method on a 3 years old girl that walks on her toes with a tendacy to inversion?instead of using a plastic support?and change it every 5-4 days? So she can have a bit quality of life?(from time to time not on a regular base).thank you so much.
It is worth a try as could help as can leave it on for 5 days, the size of the tape might be an issue as it is 5cm wide so it could be to big for the ankle so check first but should be fine, i think. regards JG
Hi, this is a variation of the other taping techniques I demonstrate and i also vary the amount of stretch to provide more stability if required. Regards JG
If you damaged this ligament then you would have damaged the syndesmosis joint (typically through a fracture) between the tibia and fibula so there would be other structures involved and can take many months to settle down, regards JG
Can i use this while my ankle is swollen? Right now my ankle is swollen so im thinking maybe its better to put compression on it (to reduce swollen) instead of KT. Or can i use compression on top of the KT? Sorry for so many questions. What do u think i should do?
I have a taping technique specifically for swollen ankle so look at that one as probably better if the ankle has swollen and then apply this one i show here once the swelling has gone down, good luck, regards JG
@@JohnGibbons thank you so much. I'm going to use that way. And if there is other method that's better or gives more support please make a video of pre-basketball taping for ankle and achilles support.. I have doubt of using the pro tape that is too rigid for taping ankle I'm afraid that when I stepped on other's foot, because it's too rigid, the next joint will react which is the knee.. unlike this kinesio tape it's still flexible.. thank you so much and more power!
@@JohnGibbons Thank you! We did use it for my daughter for her soccer game and she said the ankle felt really good with the tape job. Thank you for sharing!
thanks for the message and when you look after athletes every day then taping is an integral part of treatment as helps stabilise the joint. If the ankle is acute and really swollen then i would wait a few days till the swelling reduced before i taped. regards JG

Hallo Sir John . i have my question my both Ankle 15 yers ago pain Whether I work or not, it hurts. Every day it hurts for 15 minutes. Then it gets better. I go to the sector. The pain decreases. If I work, it hurts more. It hurts when I walk back and forth in the house for 15 minutes and then it gets better. What I use for my ankle shoes or some other ?Please advise me .
Razzuwan Razali thanks for message and difficult to answer without looking at you...ligaments take many months to heal and 6-12 months is normal. A Mri scan can help but there is a cost to it. Try and see someone like me if you can...regards JG
John Gibbons tq for your reply. fyi i already did MRI after sprain ankle on July. doc said ligament tear. but i keep running but not everyday as before.my motion feet not good and still not recover yet.so i decide to stop run now.
Depends on the tear of the ligament, I presume it was a serious one once the time it is taking to recover. Good luck as might need some more time...regards JG
Tekchand Sharma thanks for message and you can apply in acute stage of injury as the tape has 180% stretch so it will help. I do show one specially for a swollen ankle so maybe look at that one as well. Regards JG
School up on a bit of technical jargon/medical terminology before the video and the explanation will make perfect sense. Shouldn't require an alternate angle, if you can't understand the instructions then you should definitely see a professional.❤

If they don’t do you have videos that do?
We can't see the placement of the KT on the interior portion of the ankle and leg. Camera angle needs to show both angles/ sides.
Looks fine to me, regards JG
Hi, may I asked how to measure the length of the tape when taping the ankle?
Some tape have squares on the back so if you use 5 squares it will be a typical size to use, for ankles I tend to use 6 or 7 squares - regards JG
