Amazing scenery Jim!!! Mountain camping isn't just a hobby; it's a way of life. This video serves as a beautiful reminder of the moments of joy and discovery I experienced in the wilderness.

1:53 An Emperor Moth, Saturnia pavonia, a male (those complex antennae)! It's a creature of moorland, the larvae eat heather. Well, I would seize on that, but it was just a part of a very rich film. To give you some tasting notes, I got sun, and shadows; suggestions of warmth, and snow; proximity, and immensity. The big sublime hit for me came at 8:24, you in shadow in silhouette against that sunny mountain side - just such a perfect composition. I was completely ignorant about the mountain Sgurr na Ciche. It's so distinctive and so grand. Reading up on it a little (the geological descriptions are highly technical) I think I have learned that the rock is a migmatite, hence those striations of lighter bands. Thanks again for a lovely, thought-provoking film.

And thank you Roy once again for your thoughtful notes. Interesting geology around there. I often think that there is a geologist inside every hill walker even if they don't know it. Why else would one be so captivated by these landscapes.
It was lovely to see the emperor moth. It was just sunning itself on the molinia near my tent.

Yes, very rugged and rocky in Knoydart / Glen Dessarry. Always amazes me how varied the geology is in Scotland. Each area has its own distinct feel - Torridon, the Cairngorms, Glen Coe....

Lovely hike in beautiful surroundings, gotta love the mountains 🤩 Those stonewalls from days of old must have been hard work building up there, what was those for? Livestock? Very nice filming and a joy to watch! Thx for the hike Jim 😊

Thanks Martin. The walls were built by crofters in the 19th century who got paid in food by wealthy landowners. I'm guessing they were for sheep. Must have been hard work!

Jings, what a beautiful film. You can really capture the magnificence of Scotlands mountain landscapes.
Been on Skye for quite a few weeks now:cuckoo on 23/4, 1st swallow on 26/4, spring is really moving on now . Cheers man.

Beautifully filmed, Jim. (Lovely to hear the cuckoo at the start.) I find it somewhat mindblowing to see that there is a drystone wall so high up in the mountains. What an effort it must have taken for someone to build that all those years ago.

Thanks Veronique. Yes, it's amazing to see these perfectly built walls so high up and so remote. I know some of these walls are known as "famine walls". They were built by crofters who received food in return for the work. There's more about them here munromoonwalker.com/blog/beinn-deargs-great-wall-is-sad-reminder-of-our-past

Thanks James. Yes, was lovely to meet you too. You can probably spot the shot that I got just before we bumped into each other. It's the bit at 06:55 where I'm walking through the snow. It was just after that that I saw you coming round the corner. Such a good day up there wasn't it. I wonder what hill I'll see you on next!

Stunning filming once again Jim. I hiked these 3 Munros in June 2021. Started off in rain with no views on the 1st summit & finished on Sgùrr na Cìche with similar weather to you. Views will live long in the memory. The drone footage shows off the mountains in all their glory. ❤ Thanks for sharing. Atb Linda
