- A year ago we brought you an exclusive interview with a woman who says she was raped and impregnated by a Buddhist teacher in a remote retreat center in Veneta.
That story generated a lot of reaction from people in our community, most of whom knew nothing about this organization that has been operating in Lane County for nearly two decades. A Eugene family watched that story, and reached out to their son and daughter-in-law who had studied at the Buddhist Center. That’s when, for the first time, their daughter-in-law told her husband and those close to her just what she says happened to her in her nearly 10 years under that Buddhist Guru, Khenpo Choga’s watch.

Tibetans are greedy people. Your gurus are taking religious privilege in the name of so-called reincarnation. The outside is humble and the inside is full of lust. When you are too much in faith then you are blind and then this happens. I also like Buddhism but not the ritualistic part which Tibetan follows.

Leave the place right away if something doesn’t feel right! I grew up in Tibetan communities and got blessed from many great yogis. But this kind of incidents were rare growing up in even in Tibetan communities. This is new thing I learned in west. Please be careful my brother and sister in west. And as my mother will say “I know you love and respect your guru! But keep in mind he is in a human form and also has emotions like us. So Always keep a respectfully healthy distance “
Khenpo in our Tibetan language means teacher but not as a monk or high lama 🙏

Greedy, Fake gurus who have studied and gained little bit of knowledge about some religion become GURUS, to make easy money and become rich fast, to attract and molest girls and women, to gain power, name and fame. And it’s extremely difficult to know who are the real, genuine and true Gurus unless you do thorough research and investigation. Though such wrong deeds are done by some evil Gurus and priests of other religions too. As I Buddhist I am totally shocked, heartbroken, ashamed and deeply sorry for all victims 😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏

There's no mention of Rinpoche or Tulku in the video titled 'Khenpo choga'. I'm unsure why you're bringing them up. Perhaps you didn't watch the entire video or there's a misunderstanding. Please avoid making irrelevant connections.
I've had the privilege of learning from many Khenpos, Tulkus, and Rinpoches, and their teachings have profoundly impacted my life. Given that the criminal or culprit in the video is a Khenpo, how would you suggest identifying a fake Khenpo? Please enlighten us. 🙏
As a Buddhist I feel so bad and sorry for these victims but at the same time I’m ashamed of those Buddhist teacher who miss use their power and teaching and cause suffering to other.
From a Tibetan,I feel it’s disgraceful that these teachers take advantage of young men and women who are in the quest for the truth and happiness! Get it filed in Court and see the results!
This seems all fabricated. Be careful when watching this. It might be that for reasons unknown, "they" tried to harm the center or/and Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, and what a better way than alleged sexual assaults ?
I've been to this retreat center and quickly became friends with Choga; watching this video only screams red light/conspiracy to me. I'm a Taoist originally and very skeptical person, I didn't approach Choga as some sort of guru or semi-god. I was there in 2010 and the center did NOT look like a cult at all.
The allegations might be right, I'm not fully denying them, but to describe the place as a cult and to describe Choga as a diva are way too far from the truth for me to take any of the allegations seriously.
That being said, the whole thing could be true but the way they present it doesn't seem objective at all.
They don't have testimony from other people who have been to the center and knew Choga and can talk about it positively.
Well, from my personal experience, all I hear in this video seems to be complete bs, and even if it were true, it's terrible journalism to present the case in such a biased way.

Yes that's true, if she finds that 'Guru' is very fishy, she should leave immediately..
This is what is called "trauma bondage". On one hand she knew that it was wrong, but on the other hand, she had doubts because deep in her mind, she still kept him as her teacher. People's minds are complex, and a lot of rape victims take a long time to realize that they have fallen prey. Please don't corner the victim, don't make her a double victim. Rape cases are not as easy as other cases because it's pretty normal that a woman resorts to her defense mechanism to dull the pain. Be considerate and kind.

As a Tibetan Buddhist, I feel very ashamed and angry at this Buddhist teacher who has misused his name to inflict harm on others. This is not part of Tibetan Buddhism and I truly feel that he is a fake teacher. It is very important to choose the right teacher and understandably it is not easy to find a good teacher. Majority of the Tibetans will only follow H H the 14th Dalai Lama as he has shown to be the religious leader who leads by example.
Sad to see so many comments under the video to be either victim blaming, hindsight or denouncement of Tibetan Buddhism. These things need to be talked about so that we can deal with abuse better in our religious communities.
Police must inquiry well without any restriction. If it’s true men must get punish accordingly to law.
As a Buddhist, sorry for this girl. It is unacceptalble. Legal action needs to be initiated if it is true.
Why she didn’t left right after it happened to her from the beginning
If you are planning to follow the Buddhist path, specially Vajrayana Buddhism, please please analyse your Guru. Analyse Guru's Guru and their Gurus aswell. In Vajrayana Buddhism, you are required to analyze your guru for a minimum of 9 years before taking him/her as your guru.
Sorry, I have to invent here, she sounds like accused and fishy to whatever Rinpoche. Her own quotes "For many years I didn't realize sexy insult since I started to keep distant from community and center then I realized it". This means she had sexed him regularly while she is practicing in the center for so many years and she never realized rape or insult. Now after she left the center live regular live then she woke up with feelings of sexual insult and rape. People listen to the interview carefully. Sorry again I don't trust her statement. but I have nothing related to center or whatever Rinpoche as well. I never support/hate violences or rapes or abuses specially by powers. This is my personal analysis based from her interview.
As a Tibetan I have met Khenpo Choga. Have been to his center, in the forest south of Veneta. Found the ambience ‘cultish’ and for the life of me, could not understand why the gullible ‘blondes’ (go-ser in Tibetan ) followed him. Investigate your ‘guru’ for 12 years before you accept him/her.
Sexual harassment and abuse are widespread in Tibetan monasteries from the beginning of their existence, yet dhalia lama and his government never initiate a legal action let alone address it’s issues in daily lives of monks and nuns are shameful and disgusting in Tibetan monastic culture!!! As for myself became a monk in early age and experience sexual abuse has impacted many aspects of my life !!!! If ever Dalia l lama could truly take on this reckless behaviour and take responsibility for many children and family members whom believe in them !!! I am glad to see in the west it’s gradually turning the wheels and cleansing impure energy or practice; so that check and balance of responsibility and true dharma essence will prevail 💕🙏💕🕊️🙏🕊️

Yep, wolves come in sheep clothing pretending that they are so devoted. Think of all of the monasteries with little boys who are given by parents with adult monks mentoring and taking care of them. Think of what is going on there. Yet, no one has exposed this and name monasteries that are hidden in mountains that are not in the public view.
I as a Buddhist, i am telling you guys not to trust every so-called Rinpochen, do research, try to find out more about their acts outside temple, ask or talk to more people about them, best way is to observe their behavior, especially observe their personal lives.

Sorry to hear that, I am certain he will end up like this. If a person cannot manage and overcome their own ignorance, how can they possibly help others? Many lamas, khenpos, and teachers face similar outcomes, regardless of their religion. They are pretty shameless too.

Buddhist masters or teachers must know the western culture, attitude and way of life well before teaching western students because both cultures are extremely different. They must be a distance between master & student like in asian society but in the west teachers and students become close friends that lead to all the dramas instead of Dharma.
