I think it was hammered in enough to drive a point home but not enough to be obnoxious and I'm one of the most impatient people to walk this rock called Earth Then again, my impatience might only serve to give me a greater sympathy towards it.
Its even funnier when you think that all of this would have been avoided if he had ever entertained the thought of pressing the B-Button during dialogue.
I've started playing that PC source port type thing recently, can't tell you the name off the top if my head but its a full on rebuild of the engine for PC, not an emulator
@Spike16 Absolutely not. Ocarina of Time was never envisioned as realistic, nor does realism look good on N64. Any of the concept art for the game or its characters shows something bright and colorful, which the remake captures far better. Not to mention that makes the contrast between the dystopian future and the lively past all the more intense.
The reason (at least what I think) Navi leaves is because Link is not a Kokiri, even though the Great Deku Tree knows this, he summons Navi. Navi's real mission is to guide Link through his adventure, it's only when peace is restored Navi decides to leave because he has served his purpose, that's why I think Navi leaves at the end of the game.
It's also symbolic. You gain control of Link when he gets Navi. So when you are finished controlling him, she goes back. And then, in the sequel, he gets another fairy so he can be controlled again.
As you guys already stated, I always found it both to be symbolism and remembered that only Kokiri are supposed to have fairies. Link being Hylian was never supposed to have a Fairy and waited a long time before he ever got one compared to the Kokiri.
The 3DS version has always felt to me as the definitive version of Ocarina of Time. Heck one thing you didn’t seem to mention was that the character models in the 3DS version look exactly like the artwork for the characters from the instruction booklet of the N64 version. So they were remodeled yes but remodeled to look like how they were originally SUPPOSED to look like but sadly the N64 version couldn’t cut it. Ocarina of Time 3D is the TRUE version of the game. I feel like the original on N64 was more or less a prototype. While the 3DS version is the true/definitive version.
I disagree solely because the 3ds version became more “kid friendly” and cut some stuff that never should’ve been cut like the blood in the shadow temple and fog in temples etc. OoT had a very dark theme and randomly making it not dark in the 3ds version was honestly annoying
@@Buttington_Headerson I see your point. It’s fair. I think I’m just already used to the “issues” that they fixed in the 3ds version so I didn’t even see it as improvements. Cause OoT was the first GameCube game I ever played on my Wii so I adjusted to the controls really quick
No way, I liked the original graphics, more realistic, less cartoonish, I always felt like Ocarina of time had a dark feel to it, just my opinion but I prefer the realistic textures and colour palette.
No contest. I believe the 3DS version is the definitive version. I like it more than the original because it looks better, controls better, is more accessible, and has more content.
Here's the 1 thing you can go back to the N64 or even GCN version for. The ability to easily record it; either from devices or screen-capturing an emulator. I play the GCN version primarily before the 3DS version due to higher quality for recording and performance purposes, plus I prefer the GCN Controller over the N64 Controller; but I'd always choose the 3DS above all else. If 3DS capture devices were easier/cheaper to get; 3DS would be the one I'd record.
+scatlink sean Yeah, but that's more for a different purpose than just wanting to play the game. I do agree that recording footage off an N64 is way easier than a 3DS.
Now it makes sense why my overpriced release day 3DS is starting to lose responsiveness in the touch screen even though I baby my gaming hardware. Good God the 3DS has had a long-ass lifespan...
@@pastamaniac6794 while I dont agree with everything said in the video, I think it shows great examples of what still works today and what doesn't. It's fine if you still like everything it offers tho, in the end its just a matter of taste!
@@SerpongeDash I think the flaws of this game can give to a charm that gets loose when something is getting a remake. But not all the times. Like the resident evil remake made it better than the original. The 3ds remake fixes a lot of things in the original like the iron boots are easy to put on in the water temple. That's a great addition. But some things they didn't improved like ganondorf's model doesn't look as memorable than the original. Then we have the lighting that ruins the atmosphere from the original. For example the final battle with ganon was ruined by the lighting and made him less intimidating and less epic than the n64.
@@pastamaniac6794 I don't know, personally I much prefer the OOT remake but that's because I played this one first. I understand what you mean tho, I have the same feeling with the spyro trilogy remake, I much prefer the look of the originals even if the remakes are obviously more detailed, but the atmosphere is lost a bit with that for me. So I get what you mean with OOT
It's not even a port, it's emulated (you can pull the rom file off the disc and run it in any generic N64 emulator or even on a real N64 and have GC controller icons).
That one would be interesting because I genuinely don’t know which one he would prefer. Whereas I knew instantly he was going to prefer OoT 3D over the original due to reasons I thought he may have brought up (and did).
I hope it just gets a Remake score. It wouldn't deserve a Replace score. *FUCK* the Inverted Song of Time nerf. *FUCK* the swimming changes. And *FUCK* the Bomber's Notebook handling changes.
This was honestly an amazing review of the game and it's rereleases, would love to see it done for Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker too one day!
The only Zelda Game I have is The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition on GameCube, Which has Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. I played Oot And Majora, not Zelda 1 & 2, And I really loved Majora's Mask and He should make a squeal to this video, Majora's Mask N64 Vs. 3DS That would be Amazing, the game is Amazing, Unlike Oot, It's Good, but not the best game of all time, In my opinion Majora's Mask is better than Ocarina of Time (On N64).
"Until you realise how quickly jump attacks drain their health (on bosses)" Someone never discovered the power of crouch stabbing by using your shield while not locked-on. If you do it after a jump attack it saves the damage strength of your last attack and you can attack pretty much as fast as you can spam the button.
Kind of disappointing. Delta episode was nice, but the difficulty was lowered, no more Battle Frontier, game corner was removed, you can no longer see yourself riding ships, it just fades from one location to another. Although the mega latias/latios and post game legendary hunting was nice. It's more so that HGSS did so much more than GSC, and even FRLG added in quite a few new areas and content.
Honestly with the exception of the battle tower and the difficulty ORAS is an improvement when compared to Ruby/Sapphire.I dont know about Emerald though
Omega Ruby isn't a bad remake is my second favorite remake. Hgss is my favorite remake. But Oras has way better postgame than Leaf Green. Emerald=Omega Ruby>Ruby. Look at the characters in Oras they are stronger than Emerald. I loved Zinnia and Wally and Delta Episode. The Mauville's city new design is better. But if they included the Battle Frontier then it would be better than Emerald but it isn't. Furthermore, they didn't include any new features from Emerald and that was a bit disappointing. Yes they aren't Emerald remakes, but couldn't they add at least two features from Emerald? Oras add as much content as Emerald add. So both games are equally good. Oras deserve much more love. They aren't shit, I really enjoyed these games
@Pyro Flare yes I KNOW Emerald has better Post game Content than Oras but they aren't bad remakes but they are okay. I was not comparing Oras's postgame with Emerald's postgame.
In all seriousness, man, OoT is one of my personal most cherished games, but these criticisms are probably the most valid criticism's I've seen against the game. Good on you for coming off very unbiased, easy to understand, and collected. This might be my favorite review of OoT tbh
I don't know, when he started ranting about the graphics, I thought that was pretty stupid. Some of the games he brings up CLEARLY have made graphical sacrifices in other ways that he seems to just flat out ignore. And the ones that can actually stand toe to toe with OoT graphically such as Banjo-Kazooie were, comparatively speaking, smaller sized games. I don't think he realizes this, but OoT is HUGE by late 90s standards. It has a crapload of mechanics, dialogue, and areas. If you don't believe me, then talk to the OoT Randomizer dev team. They'll tell you. And in any case, if he really thinks that's bad, then he needs to play FF7 sometime. Now THAT game is an insanely graphical eyesore. OoT looks like Crysis by comparison.
I believe the text boxes that loaded quickly while you were button mashing is actually a frame-perfect trick that can skip most text boxes in the game - you have to hit the button on the frame that the text starts populating. I could be mis-remembering, but I think I've heard speedrunners talk about that.
The thing I love about this guy is how he completely validated his points, following up with a brilliant explanation and giving his own personal opinion and respecting your preferences
31:33 I haven't played OoT in a long time, but I think Zelda actually sends you to Death Mountain, since she gives you a letter to be able to access said place. There you find a rock blocking the dungeon entrance so you end up heading to Goron City, where you can use the shortcut to go straight to Lost Woods. My only problem with OoT 3D is that I have to play it on 3DS. When I'm at home I want to sit comfortable and hold a big controller in my hands. Just because of that I have kept playing the N64 version through the Wii Virtual Console over the 3DS one.
As someone who loves N64 games, I honestly think the N64 aged the worst out of any console. Mostly because of graphics, but some of it has to do with the controller layout. Compared to PS1, I feel like those not only aged better but transition into HD formats more gracefully with simple filtering be it emulated or with tricky hardware setups. Also helps that the original PS1 controller design has more or less evolved into the current modern designs everyone uses. Regardless if you swap the D-Pad with the Left Analog stick, every modern controller is pretty much the same guts. I mean this includes even playing N64 games on Wii-U, sometimes it feels horrible because they didn't take any special care to patch those games to better adjust to the Wii-U controller options.
i think majoras mask is a pretty fun experience. of course the cutscenes are still unskipable, but what can one do? oot3d did not make the major cutscenes skippable either
LPSoldin But don’t forget that the N64 had the analog sticks and rumble first. Nintendo took the stride. Sony saw a few things that could be better and fixed them. But if it wasn’t for the N64 controller, the PS1 controller would be stuck with just a D pad
@@MalarkeyManThe D Pad still works rather well for 90 percent of the PS1 library. With a few exceptions, the analog stick is not necessary to really enjoy PS1 games. But it was essential for most if not all N64 games to even be playable.
Apparently there was a port of Ocarina of Time to a Chinese system called the "iQue Player". It was the same in every way except it had a flawless framerate, with no lag whatsoever. It also has a faster text speed. Just thought it was interesting that the Chinese managed to fix the problems you had with the game in a port only like 10 people actually own.
That's because the ique itself, afaik, is more powerful, as it was released in 2003. Also, I don't think the text faster. It's like the japanese version, chinese has fewer letters to display than english.
it also was the go to port for speedrunners for a long time, Cosmo had the record on it (still on RUclips) until a new glitch was discovered in the Japanese version rendering the record obsolete
Many older games aren't so easy to bump up in famerate. Much of the game's script, timers etc are tied into the framerate which would require a lot more alterations to be made. Also, thanks for confirming I'm not crazy when I say the N64 stick doesn't translate well to modern sticks on emulators.
He wasn’t wrong, plus I’m also glad he even had the balls to say appeal couldn’t be seen in the original N64 version of OoT’s visuals (say what you want about the visuals of that other N64 game Super Mario 64, but at least the game tried to have a more hilariously atmospheric look than the otherwise enjoyable Ocarina of Time)!
Au contraire, I _loved_ the Shiekah Stone in the 3DS remake. I'm someone who tends to miss obvious clues when it comes to puzzle-solving, but I don't get frustrated, I just get bored and play something else. That's one reason the Zelda series was never one of my favorites. But as an early 3DS adopter with absolutely NOTHING else to play, the game could nudge me in the right direction whenever I got stuck. It's the only reason I finally beat Double-Oh Tee (and I'm totally stealing that). Excellent work as always, EPG!
AbooV2 The game gave the option for players at lower skill levels. Guy may never have beaten the game if it was limited to stock difficulty. As for that skill level, they beat the game.
I agree, although i never used them. And to be honest, they kind of annoyed me when i first saw them, but in reality, giving more options to the player is almost everytime a good thing, as long as the game states clearly what is the desired way to play from the developers point of view. And these games were always made, even back then, with nintendo power and word of mouth in mind. Shigeru Miyamoto design the original Zelda with the intention that people solved the mysteries as a community, so adding hints into a game is really just cutting the middle man
Starfox was originally a railshooter, and people wanted a true followup to Starfox 64. Imagine if the next Metroid game being turned into a turned based rpg or a shoot em up. People would lose their fuckin minds, lol. Myself included.
The plot for the game in a nutshell: Deku Tree: Link hurry, you must go inside of me and kill the giant deadly spider thing before it’s too late. Link: But I’ve never fought anything before. Deku Tree: JUST DO IT! (One dungeon later) Deku Tree: You were too late Link. In fact you were so late that I was doomed before you even got here. Link: Then why’d I have to do all that? Deku Tree: Oh because I felt like having you pitted against a giant spider. Now go to Zelda and avenge me. She has a perfectly perfect 100% full proof impossible-to-fail plan. (Goes to castle) Zelda: Link! I have a perfectly perfect 100% full proof impossible-to-fail plan! Ganon, the person who killed the deku Tree, wants the triforce. It is sealed away in the sacred realm, which is sealed by the master sword, which is sealed by the door of time, which is sealed by the three sacred stones and the Song of Time, which are sealed in 4 separate places all over Hyrule! Link: Okay so what’s the plan? Zelda: We’re gonna unseal everything! Because the triforce is surely better in the hands of 2 defenseless children than all those seals. (3 stones and an ocarina later) Link: Okay. Unseal the door. Unseal the sword. Unseal the Sacred Realm. And Unseal the Triforce. Ganon: Gwahahaha. Thanks for doing all of the work for me. Now enjoy puberty. Link: What? (The sounds of aging 7 years instantly) Sheik: There you are hero. You failed! And now we’re in a post apocalyptic future, because why not? Link: Hey this was all Zelda’s idea. I can go back and just prevent this from happening you know. Sheik: No! You need to make things right and atone for your actions. Now go, while I observe you from nearby. (Five sages later) Sheik: Great. Anyways you have the triforce of courage while Ganon has Power. The Triforce of Wisdom belongs to the smartest person in the world. (Reveals herself) Zelda: AND IT’S ME! Link: What?! How do you have that? Your plan is the whole reason why the world was doomed. Zelda: Because that was all your fault. Anyways I hid myself as a sheikah to fool Ganon so he wouldn’t find me. Because I’m soooo smart! (Ganon captures her) Zelda: Kyaaaa Ganon: Thanks for ever so foolishly revealing yourself. Now come to my castle, boy. I say this, but you’re gonna need to build your own bridge to get in. (One escape sequence later) Zelda: Yay Link! You did it. (Ganon comes back) Zelda: Ahhh (Link goes and fights him) Link: Zelda don’t you have insane magic and sheikah powers you could use to help me? Zelda: No I’m the damsel in distress, ahhh. (Link fatally wounds Ganon) Link: Alright Ganon. Time to kill yo- Zelda: Don’t worry Link! I’ll save you. Sages! Seal him away! (Ganon is sealed) Link: Why’d you do that? I was going to kill him! Now he’s just going to come back eventually when the seal is broken. Zelda: Of course Link. It’s meant to be. There was absolutely no other option. Link: You know, if I would’ve just ratted Ganon out instead of following your plan, none of this ever would’ve happened. Zelda: Gasp, you’re right. I’m so smart for thinking of that. Now it’s time for reverse puberty! Link: What?! (The sounds of an adult voice morphing into prepubescent child voice.) (Goes back to the past) Zelda: Link! I have a- (Puts finger to her lip) Link: Shhhhh. Hey King! Ganon killed the Deku Tree. King: Gasp, how horrible! Guards, execute him. Ganon: Wait, What?! Link: Heh, that was easy.
Deku Tree: You must save me, Link. Link: Why me? Deku Tree: Someone has to and you are the only one in the entire village that has a weapon of any kind.
It was a plot point that the King wouldn't listen to Zelda's misgivings about Gannondorf. Though yeah, why the vassals didn't mail a damn letter after you save them, I don't know. Though before you open the door at the Temple of Time it's implied Gannondorf kills the King and you see Zelda flee.
Ok, this video did NOT have to be an hour long. You spent 1/3 of the video saying the text is slow and the game looks like shit. How hard is it to say, "the text can be annoying because it's slow and can be tedious on repeat playthroughs", and "the visuals are dated and don't hold up when compared to games released the same year". That took me less an a minute to say. And talking about the gamecube version is not really relevant because it's just a port of the original aside from master quest which you could have mostly talked about with the 3ds version.
For a man that experienced the game 4 times in a row in different versions I think he kept it pretty short LMAO I think the point of his videos is about detailing the experience and not just state facts in a dynamic format (even tho leaning a bit more towards that would help the quality and reception of said videos)
Dude what? He took the time out to compare ALL 3 VERSIONS! He literally completed essentially the same game 4 times for this. He explained even the minute differences. I appreciated the gamecube version input because i was able to see the differences and the little things he points out are what makes it interesting. He also kept the gamecube segment pretty short.
ChacePlayz also, man; I think that point was for the irony. Long videos and reach aside, if you wanna know what points he talked about just keep skipping until you hit the end. It was explained just as you put it in the recap about why he chose Replace in the end. The meat and potatoes of the video was on his perspective and why it meant so much. While it sounds nitpicky, a lot of little problems add up and he’s trying to hammer home that those little problems made for a less enjoyable game overall
31:35 I could understand this being made on the first playthrough. Somewhat. But are you telling in none of those replays you used the shortcut that connect Goron City *directly* to the Lost Woods, thus saving time by just going to Death Mountain, then going to the Lost Woods and back again for the song?
@@ber3089 No, you light a Deku stick on the lower floor, then take it back and light one of the bomb flowers on the walls. You can do this as soon as you enter Goron City.
@@jacoblauria8180 >Several unlit torches throughout the city >Lit ones are inside Darunia's room >A Goron literally tells you to bring fire over from Darunia's room to where the shortcut is How is this not well hinted again?
You still have to go to the goron village, get to Saria, and run all the way back. He mentioned that there were shortcuts, just that they were only a bandaid solution. There's definitely a dungeon 2 hump you need to get over before the game starts getting fun again.
The whole point to "arbitrarily" play Zelda's lullaby was to showcase that those places in particular were somehow connected to the royal family. The puzzle does solve itself, but you mentioned opening doors or getting a chest, YOU need to prove you have a connection to the royal family. While I do agree with the sentiment of providing clues instead of using the triforce on the ground, most places use the triforce because those areas are apart of the story and it simplifies progression.
Totally agree, I mean this things make you feel attached to the world were you are living this adventure, this guy just want to rush the game, finish en continue with the next playthrough, maybe we didn't notice those "issues" because we playthrough this game with months or even year after between every time, I still play N64 and 3ds versions now and then and the game feel fresh and funny at least for me.
Playing the ocarina in those spots is not a puzzle, it is not a challenge, and it is not interesting. It is a task. It only wastes your time, exactly like traversing Hyrule Field. It's bad design.
@@SpoonyBard88 nah it's not necessarily bad design, since it conveys certain things like history in this case. It's just that it doesn't suit all playstyles. Like many things, some will like it, some won't, but it's not inherently a bad thing!
But you have to play it next to a random tree out of the many, many trees in this game and oot doesn't give you any hint whatsoever or teach you that you can do that, especially with the skultulas hidden in soft soil.
Exo has put a text disclaimer on screen mentioning: Not to be confused with River Zoras, which were in all of the earlier games. River Zoras are different species of Zora that are more aggressive like any monster.
Randall Scott no Zola is a poor translation, like when people translate Japanese names with an L instead on an R. Ex: Magari (the right way) and Magali (the wrong way).
I'll leave a not so known tactic for people so they don't have to backtrack to the forest to get Saria's song: unlock Darunia's room and then lit the torches to move the jar in Goron City, then bring a lit stick to the shortcut to the Lost Woods. The lit stick will actually make the bombs from the walls DROP AND ACTIVATE. Pretty cool
+ThiefSakon Well to be fair, it's not like that the game even tells you or at least hints that you can knock the bombs on the walls with a lit Deku Stick in the first place. In fact, I didn't even know you actually CAN do that until I've seen someone do it on RUclips. How they expect you to figure that one out is beyond me.
I found this on my first time playing ocarina of time back in the day. how the hell is this not so known? you can run into it in the lost woods, then you find a bomb any and just throw them at those rocks. that's what I did.
40:00 When I was a child I collected all 100 skulltula's. The rumble pack feature, where the game would rumble near secrets, was all I needed. No guide required and finding the hidden caverns with the songs was easy since, yes, I did talk to the stones and wear the mask of truth.
How the fuck did you figure out that the Skulltulas are buried in the Magic Bean spots? That's something even online strategy guides at the time often missed.
Nerdy George Washington I know it’s too late, but what people used to do is find bugs and catch them in a bottle. Then drop them into the holes and they should appear.
I was "there" for the hype and release of ocarina. During that era, people were infatuated with 3D games, with many believing that a game being 3D automatically made it better than anything from previous generations. I never found ocarina to be superior to link to the past, though many of my friends did. There was a lot of change during that time, not just in technology, but in marketing. I think a lot of us from that era got caught up in some of that. Ocarina was certainly a new experience and deserved the attention it got at the time, but most people are taking memories from when they were very young and comparing them to experiences they had after maturing as gamers and people.
Hel as a kid i got my fill of 3D being the best thing ever in SM64 and OoT felt slow to me even then. It was amazing for its time and pretty good for any time but it to me it was a 3D tweaked LttP that i was less engaged with and don't understand the insane love it has.
BotW is going to meet the same fate. Once the hype & marketing has worn off people can look at it with a more critical vision. Thankfully people like Joseph Anderson & KingK have done very long critiques exploring their faults so it's not like we had to wait as long for some honest criticism.
Ocarina of Time was my first Zelda (other than watching a friend play bits of A Link to the Past at his house), and i was around 30 at the time. While i remember thinking that Zelda games looked a little too cutesy-poo for me, i picked up OoT anyway, and ended up really getting into it. It wasn't my first 3D game as i had played Mario 64 and the Dooms and Wolfensteins on PC before it, but the seemingly vast expance of landscape to explore really blew my mind at the time. How you could see that mountain off in the distance and you knew you were gonna go there eventually. It didn't make me a die hard Zelda fan or anything-- i've only played Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild since (and an hour or two Twilight Princess-- couldn't get into it)-- but it left a huge impression on me as it was the very first game that felt 'open world' to me. It didn't hurt that it had some of the very best game play on offer at the time. And i did eventually get used to the more cutesy-poo aspects of the series.
@@stephenobrien6983 4 years late, botw is still considered one of the best games ever. You'll need to wait a bit longer if you're so desperate for people sharing your opinion
TIMESTAMPS 42:55 start of gamecube version coverage 45:50 Master Quest (reason to own the GCN version) 49:45 3DS Version (best version) 1:02:12 Remake or Rebreak (Conclusion)
The main thing that for me makes 3D the definitive edition is the improved controls. Having a dedicated Ocarina button and 4 item slots makes playing the game so much more fun. Combined with the simpler and faster menu and the fact that certain equipment (boots) are now items instead makes stuff like the Water Temple less annoying to play through. Then there's the circle pad which is leagues better to use than an analogue stick (this includes all modern analogue sticks btw, fite me). Also the fact that you don't have to memorise songs is such a huge bonus for me. Although, I think that N64 OOT and Majora look *amazing* and prefer their looks over that 3D versions and I will go to the grave with that. And this isn't nostalgia or anything (I wasn't even alive when the N64 was around), it's just my genuine opinion. The other thing I prefer about the N64 version is the feeling of the controller in my hands, the 3ds is nice and all, but the angled grip of the N64 is one of the comfiest things for me. I just really love both of the versions, absolutely the best 3D Zelda for me (Oot > BotW > Majora > Twilight Princess > Wind Waker (Would be above Majora but I never finished it because of that *awful* triforce piece hunt, tried again on the WiiU version and still couldn't do it. it's just so boring and annoying to do and completely takes me out of the game) > Skyward Sword)
I've been playing Ocarina of time since I was really young but I'm not shackled by nostalgia, I remember playing it for the first time on n64 when I was 5 at my cousin's house and being blown away by how sophisticated it seemed at the time but I never got my true introduction to the game until I got my hands on the 3DS remake where I finally played it to completion. I've played every single port and release of the game to date and the only one that I really find the most enjoyment out of is the remake, it just fixes so many pointless pacing issues and other design flaws the other versions had that it's nearly impossible to go back once you've played it. I really appreciate your effort that went into making this video, I think it's a masterpiece in terms of reviewing and it's pretty impressive you didn't feel the need to restrict yourself to just a short 10 minute video.
What's your opinion about Majora's Mask 3D? Remake or rebreak? I played both versions and, although I prefer the zora swim and the Odolwa boss fight from the N64, I definitely stick with the 3DS version and I think people over exaggerate when talking about the bad parts of the remake.
IMO it gets a remake score. It makes improvements to the experience and fixes some of the originals problems, however it also introduces some of its own problems so it doesn’t fully replace the original.
Wow... I'm really amazed of how you put so much effort in this review, that was amazing, really I've discovered your channel today with this video and I definItely want to see more ^^'
31:36 did you really make the same mistake as arin hanson? There is a shortcut in the gorons city that takes you back to the forest!!! The goron next to the bomb flowers tells you to bring him fire from big gorons room and you then bring fire up to blow up the bombs then you use the deku sticks and boom bombs explode and shortcut opens * mind blown*
+Rainbow Dash You can't open that shortcut without bomb flowers, which you can't pick without the Goron Bracelet, which you get from Darunia after getting Saria's Song from the forest. But then again, I did learn from Master Quest that you can light bomb flowers on the wall using a torch, and there are wall bomb flowers near the shortcut. But that's an obscure trick to begin with, and you need Din's Fire (which you need bombs to acquire) to light the torches in Goron City so you can light your Deku Sticks. So yes, I know about that shortcut, but it's not usable until after it's most useful application.
ExoParadigmGamer did you not talk to the goron next to the shortcut? He asked you for fire. ( from big brothers room) and you use deku sticks to light the bombs
The only few things about the original OoT that I prefer over the superior 3D version is Ganondorf coughing (red) blood, the Star and Crescent symbol on the Mirror Shield and movable blocks, and Muslim chanting in the Fire Temple that help make the dungeon feel like a bigger deal.
Anthony Izzi - Casual Same here. I also liked the darker, muted colors. The 3DS version was too darn cartoony and bright. The Shadow Temple and the bottom of the well lost its creepiness factor for the 3DS. The final battle too.
Yeah I miss those things. Green blood was always weird to me, even as a kid, and didn't make sense or remove the severity of the issue. Blood is blood, it's just this blood looks weird. I thought it was better to not use it as censorship but just for artistic reasons like with aliens or bugs. And then I grew up with those original symbols, so seeing the redesigns later kind of threw me off when replaying the game with the GC re-release. A few of my friends even had the edited copies released much later where they already patched them out. It confused me even more since I grew up with OoT and MM using different symbols, and since I never played the censored version before playing MM, It's weird to me and feels like they retconned OoT and MM to share more connections than they originally had. Only years later did I find out that it was because of that censored version I had never heard about.
@@ssjup81 Really? I thought they were super creepy. I literally got chills in the bottom of the well and I felt genuinely uncomfortable and even scared at times. And the Ganon boss battle looked stunning if you ask me.
I thought this review was really fair. Some of the things like the graphics and text speed never bothered me personally but that’s just different strokes and I found the review very fun o listen to. Ocarina isn’t perfect and has its flaws. I think for me many of the Zelda games have big flaws like TPs boring world, WWs big empty dungeons, or BOtWs uninspiring story. All great games, but I think we haven’t hit that perfect Zelda yet even if we have gotten close. Ocarina always stands out to me as one which even with its own flaws tends to perform better in most of the areas of gaming especially with the 3ds version remedying the graphical issues. I felt it’s less of a good start and more of a “Gaming standard “ which is why it holds up so well. Anyway I really enjoyed this and I thought your review was very fair and unbiased and you made a ton of good points on what is a touchy subject for Nintendo fans. Great job
heads up URA zelda IS NOT master quests URA zelda was rumoured to do alot more than what master quest(and thus it inst the same at all sorry EPG) did what it kinda ended up happening as it was cancelled around the time of zelda gaiden was finshed up also known as majoras mask so yeah master quest is not URA zelda
Icy Wind It's still called Ura because it means flip side, which is exactly the first thing you notice in Master Quest. The Ura we got is not the Ura that was originally planed, just like A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are not the Zelda 3 and Zelda 64 that were originally planned. Until it is proven that all those ideas were dropped before it was cancelled, I will still consider Ura 64 and Ura GC/3DS two different games that just share name and basic concept.
32:20 what? you bothered trying to go all the way through the rivers up to the waterfall? its much easier to warp to the forest temple (THE FIRST TEMPLE YOU GET) then go to the little pond in the lost woods to get there.
Wait the resolution increasing proves that they could've made gameplay improvements? >.< What?? And changing the camera to a free moving cam would've been a huge effort (testing included) especially when working with the original code/rom. Skipping through all the text reminds me of my friend who did that and then turned to us and said "What do I do?" I get it for subsequent playthrough though.
@@djcrimsonsunbird3607 May have misread or misinterpreted what I'm trying to say. You're right, resolution increasing can be done via emulation but being able to modify the video output has nothing to do with modifying game feature code. The statement was like saying because you can upscale a DVD film with a Blu Ray player that it should also be able to edit the film too.
@@justinkeys2708 Well, technically yes. Because if the tech to upscale exists, then it's possible to remaster the film too as long as we are not talking about leaving the film on the same disc. And we aren't.
@@lpfan4491 My film analogy could have been more solid. By edit, I mean having the actors modify their performance. That's very different than modifying the output, the technology isn't related, their completely separate. I'm not guessing here, I've been a game developer for the past several years.
@@justinkeys2708 The analogy makes less sense now. Because even tho you are right that the original statement is shaky, videogames can always be changed from the outside(which they technically already did to a small degree) while performances can only be replaced and even then, the extend of possibilities depends on if it is an animated film or a live action-film.
he said he'd be reviewing the original game at the start of the video _and_ it's important to understand how the original version functioned in order to compare the redone versions to the original
This video made me put my 3DS on the charger for the first time in probably 6 months. I've never beaten OoT but I'm nearly done with the first third of the game so I'm willing to give it another shot if the game gets significantly better after the child Link sequences at the beginning. Really nice video my man!
This game came out when I was only four years old and some of my earliest memories are running around and exploring To my hearts content. I do recommend that anyone playing it today use an emulator so you can speed up the text.
GCN version actually has worse visuals due to shoddy emulation. It's missing a lot of effects, like hard-edged highlights and even sun flares, if memory serves.
Well, it's a preorder bonus. And seeing that they were busy making wind waker, I don't see they should put much more effort to it. Besides, I doubt gc is that powerful enough for perfect emulation.
I had the GCN version too. I got it because I preordered it with Wind Waker. The Gamecube version wasn't a good port for me, personally. I didn't like the controls as the N64 version felt like it was perfect for it. I didn't like the GC's controller set up and would always end up going back to my N64 version back then.
If you're exploring and paying attention to character dialogue and signs you'd be able to figure out most of the happy mask customers on your first try with the exception being the running man who you'd can very easily miss. For example the kid in the graveyard complains about not being intimidating enough, and the skullkid is named Skullkid but doesn't have anything resembling a skull. The heart pieces that require you to carry a mask to one place in the forest acts a similar way as the sign says you need to have an interesting or scary face to attract their attention. For Anju's brother if you found him during the child link portion you'd know he has family and if you found him during the adult link segment (which really isn't that hard seeing as you'll be exploring the lost woods again anyway) you'd find him acting depressed. Anju gave you the chicken to cheer someone up so it's pretty easy to out two and two together. The rest of the character either follow a similar logic where you'd know about them if you explored and found them already or are directly pointed out by the people asking you to deliver an item (like in the case of the perishables).
Marche800 those are all Very vague, lol. Yes they're hints, but you can't expect a player to catch on to things like that. I'll give you the chicken one, but not the mask ones. The game intends for you to talk to random people. Your average kid, or adult even, isn't gonna be a super sleuth who memorizes every NPCs physical features, name, and dialog for a completely optional side quest.
Dodatthangfo3retweets I feel that's the problem now, not back then where we seemed to have more patience to actually explore the actual games we played as it was an adventure, fantasy game. I did the same and figured out a lot of the stuff.
ssjup81 no, back then we had more patience but that doesn't excuse the games poor design. I'm not holding the game to today's standards. Majora's mask is an example of a game that makes you explore and is fun to play with no help and pulls off being challenging while still being fair to the player. despite everyone bitching about the water temple in oot, I feel that dungeon is one of the best in Zelda history because it's actually challenging and is an example of good game design. The happy mask side quest, however, is obscure, completely optional, and doesn't even fit in with the rest of the game. the game intends for you to talk to every NPC until you happen to find the one that needs the mask you're wearing which is an example of padding and poor design and was poorly received from day 1. hence why the side quest has never been reincarnated in future titles, even the game that was built around the same masks. while the water temple was reincarnated twice.
Dodatthangfo3retweets See, for me, talking to everyone didn't bother me and never found it tedious. I even had no problem with the water temple and played the whole game without a game guide. Not like I had internet yet. That aside, to me, the game wasn't poorly designed. Never had any real issues with game.
ssjup81 I don't think you comprehended what I wrote. I never said anyone should need a guide for the water temple. I never said exploring the world or the simple act of talking to every npc was tedious. I also never said that I felt oot was a poorly designed game in general I DID SAY, the water temple was an example of good game design and fun to play and was one of the best dungeons ever. Which is why the water temple despite crybabies complaining about having to actually think to solve puzzles, was reincarnated twice. I also said including something like the happy mask side quest, a side quest where you have 3 masks (not counting the Keaton mask) and you have to wear each mask and talk to every obscure npc (including one that playing the game normally most people wouldn't even meet) until you happen to stumble across the one that wants said mask was only included to pad out the game (make the game feel bigger than it was) instead of including a side quest that felt fun (or even gave you a decent reward justifying the tedious nature of talking to every npc up to 4 times) is poor game design. I repeat, the side quest was so bad it had no form of reincarnation in any later title. If you personally had no issue with it, great. Doesn't change that it's poor game design.
Also, I believe Navi left Link at the end, was because he was never really a Kokiri to begin with. And Navi was sent to Link by the Great Deku Tree to aid him on the quest. With the Great Deku dead, and the Quest over, Navi did what we were all hoping for, and went off to fly into a Dodongo's open mouth and commit suicide.
Hey, after replaying the game recently, I found out with text part is that you can't skip it on the main cutscenes revolving the story. When talking to NPCs however you can skip it.
As someone who speed-runs this game, I feel the slow text speed all the more. When you pull the Master Sword for the first time, it takes five full minutes of mashing the A button until you’re actually able to play the game again. I wish they would remake this game again so you’re able to skip cut scenes entirely like in Twilight Princess. Despite this, I still love speed-running the game.
This was such an awesome review to watch. I'm watching this right after finishing my first playthrough of the game on my Nintendo 64, and I have to say, this video summed up my experience pretty well. Finishing this game tonight gave me a feeling of happiness and satisfaction very few games capture. To anyone thinking of playing this game, I would definitely pick it up. Even the Nintendo 64 version is worth a playthrough. Awesome video / review and I'll be sure to check out your other content! c:
45:00 Actually the collectors edition on gamecube actually DOES use X, Y, and Z for the C buttons. X being right, Y Left, and Z down...only Up has to be used on the C stick.
Late reply but it actually doesn't, I remember finding it really weird as a kid since the only other Zelda game I had played was wind waker, which did use those buttons
17:00 No brother I noticed. I noticed in the first 20 seconds of playing the game, I thought at first it was just Pal format making it worse. I guess its even worse in the pal format the text speed on the n64.
They couldn't really upgrade the music on the 3DS because of how it was made. A lot of it included weird samples from a random CD that can't easily be recreated
I agree with that sentiment. I played the 3DS remake around 4 years ago and saw why it was so beloved. But I have tried multiple times to replay it and I just can’t stay invested. That is due in part how I play Zelda games. I have trouble staying with a game from beginning to end anyways, and Zelda is, for me, one of the worst examples.
I totally respect that, you’re right... but I still think it’s the best game ever... that’s just me tho (ps I wasn’t even around for the og release, I played 3DS first)
2pigs TV - Oh it’s well crafted, absolutely! The dungeons are quite enjoyable, especially the Water Temple. Yup, I said it. On the rare occasion that it snags me pretty hard, I make a considerable amount of progress. The only other true Zelda game I ever finished was A Link Between Worlds. That was a great time! I’ve only gotten past the spot where the Master Sword is obtained in ALttP. Wind Waker I’ve cleared the opening dungeon and the first two main ones. Twilight Princess was dropped after the first one... Wait, maybe not. I found TP sooo dull and slow, even by Zelda standards. I don’t hate it, to be clear. But that one is probably the game I least desire to finish out of the main games.
I've seen this and your review of the Sonic Adventures. I must say, you've pretty much nailed my personal feelings towards these games. Very glad to discover! Thanks for your awesome videos!
You're fine for preferring the 3DS version of OoT, the only reason I still play the original version is because I have a 00 Golden Cartridge version of the game that has everything uncensored. The blood that comes out of enemies is red instead of green, the fire temple's music is unaltered, and they still had some of the hindu imagery within some of the areas as well as on the mirror shield. The 3DS version of the game is considerably better than the N64 version, the only reason you'd prefer the original is nostalgia. That said, I have a real nostalgic love for the appearance of pre-rendered imagery like the N64 has.
I also prefer the pre-rendered images and the games original visual aesthetic. Seeing the Market and temple of time for the first time was mind blowing, I had never seen anything like it in a game before
I really don’t think the text speed issue is that bad. I think the intent was an emphasis on dialogue playing out as a spoken sent and would. The pacing. Sure it’s slow and other games offer options but it doesn’t majorly detract.
Fun Fact : Grezzo wanted to do the entire game with an orchestrated sound track, but they ended up not doing it because they figured originalists of OOT would crucify them for changing it
It's really refreshing to hear someone who agrees with me that OoT isn't the best, most amazing game ever but finally, FINALLY did it in a way that...*doesn't* try to maliciously insult the people who consider it their favorite game? Why is this such a novel concept to so many people. You can praise a game or talk about its flaws without maliciously tearing into the people that enjoy it. Amazing! (This, unfortunately, applies to a lot of other things outside of video games, and it's a mentality that I will never understand, despite how I form my opinions on things...) I wish I could give better feedback on this video, but I barely ever get to play OoT, original or remake. Even now, where my household technically owns the remake, it's a digital download on my mom's semi-broken 3DS, so I can't really play it very much or for very long. I feel like I've beaten it once or twice, but I can't figure out if that's actually true or if I've just watched so many other people play it that my brain just thinks I have.
You didn’t know that everyone hate OoT now, yeah now that’s more popular (especially nitpicking it) but yeah I agree most reviewers love it but everyone else...
As someone who had parents who limited me to an hour of electronics per day, refused to let me hook my 3ds up to the wifi, never bought me a phone, and barely let me use the pc in general, the shikah stone was a god send when I found myself stuck. (I was 14/15 )
I’ve played both and I’m continually drawn back to the original version. Something just doesn’t sit right with me in the 3ds.. I guess after growing up playing it on the N64 it just doesn’t feel like OOT to me. I think it’s obvious that the graphics are much better on the 3ds version, but there’s something about the original that I just love. It seemed a bit more dark and less childish to me. But to each his own.
I see what you mean. The only thing that bothered me in the 3ds version is that you can see ganon's face in the final boss. I liked it better in the n64 where you couldn't really see his face and it made him look more mysterious.
Okay about the iron/hover boots problem they totally could have assigned them to the d-pad for the boots and the ocarina so you could use all 3 c button items
Nope. Don't forget this is the N64, which came with a controller that Nintendo stupidly designed for a race of people with three hands instead of two. A human's hands are already on the joystick and buttons, meaning they can't press the d-pad without letting go of part of the controller to move their hand over there. Putting the boots and ocarina on the d-pad would have just created a different equally annoying issue with the controls. The Nintendo 64 controller really is the worst controller of all time. And there really is no excuse for it. Even with 3D gaming in its infancy, and no rules established yet, Nintendo should have at least been able to identify that a 3 handed controller for people with 2 hands was an absolutely stupid idea.
3DS cause of the better graphics, higher FPS, easier access to inventory and switching items. Also it has got the Master Quest included for people that want some extra challenge.
One very simple thing about OOT 3D is that because it has the analog stick, anyone who was used to the original can instantly pickup and play it without learning the controls all over again. It's not that hard to understand. Mario 64 DS is like the gimmicky motion controls for the Wii that gamers turned off whenever they could.
Not sure if you read comments on older videos but I recently found your channel (actually I think I found it once a few years back but forgot to subscribe and just recently found you again) I have been watching all your Remake/Rebreak stuff and your content has really grown over the years. Not that it was lacking in anything first off, but you've definitely fit into your niche better I think. I Definitely look forward to keeping up with it now that I'm actually subscribed.
The irony of spending 7 minutes to talk about how slow the text speed is was not lost on me.
Yeah, the long, boring, repetitive irony.
I was going to say the same thing. Good thing I watch things on double speed.
I think it was hammered in enough to drive a point home but not enough to be obnoxious and I'm one of the most impatient people to walk this rock called Earth
Then again, my impatience might only serve to give me a greater sympathy towards it.
I found it way too long and was watching the video on X2
Its even funnier when you think that all of this would have been avoided if he had ever entertained the thought of pressing the B-Button during dialogue.
Fun fact: the footage of Exo spamming the buttons on the N64 controller is actually footage of him playing Marioparty.
I thought it was him playing smash

@Spike16 Hell fuckin’ no
@Spike16 Absolutely not.

Shadow Star I figured it was the reason you stated and that she was dying.

@@dukejohnson1956 disagree. Minor concessions for all the improvements made. Muddy blood textures are worth sacrificing.
@@dukejohnson1956 Making it dark wouldn’t work too well with the 3DS screen,
And is easier....
scatlink sean you can easily record from a 3ds if you softmod it

As someone who played the original game at release as a middle schooler, seeing you criticize it was a bit painful, especially because you're right.
its fine, the game is still good for its time, it just didnt age all that amazingly, but that's why we get remakes!
@@SerpongeDash why it didn't age well?
So I get what you mean with OOT
But on gamecube it isn't even a remaster......... It's just a port of the N64 version.
It's not even a port, it's emulated (you can pull the rom file off the disc and run it in any generic N64 emulator or even on a real N64 and have GC controller icons).

well i learned something new about a game i've played for years since its release...
thanks man, love learning new shit :)
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the editing in your videos is superb.
Ooh, how about a ROR for Pokemon: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire?
Kind of disappointing. Delta episode was nice, but the difficulty was lowered, no more Battle Frontier, game corner was removed, you can no longer see yourself riding ships, it just fades from one location to another. Although the mega latias/latios and post game legendary hunting was nice. It's more so that HGSS did so much more than GSC, and even FRLG added in quite a few new areas and content.
Honestly with the exception of the battle tower and the difficulty ORAS is an improvement when compared to Ruby/Sapphire.I dont know about Emerald though
@Pyro Flare Oras has a day and night cycle, that is all I'll say.But yeah Emerald is peak gen 3, they should have remade that
Omega Ruby isn't a bad remake is my second favorite remake.

Yeah pretty sure the B button Instantly shows the full text box. Should happen on any dialog that isn't also tied to a completion of a cinematic.
Zora don't first appear in Ocarina of time....they are in the first zelda game
River zoras and lake zoras are different. He also had text on screen that said "Not to be confused with river zora"
He probably meant the "good" Zora, not the evil green ones, even though you could trade friendly with King Zora in A Link to the Past...

I think a lot of n64 games haven't aged well but it doesn't mean that they aren't fun
Videogames are always like they were made, but we were less strict in quality terms back in the day. People gets old, videogames *don't*
i think majoras mask is a pretty fun experience. of course the cutscenes are still unskipable, but what can one do? oot3d did not make the major cutscenes skippable either
Actually, countries like Japan and China naturally had shorter text speeds due to it displaying less symbols.
Well the ique version is truly the definitive version of oot
That's because the ique itself, afaik, is more powerful, as it was released in 2003.
Also, I don't think the text faster. It's like the japanese version, chinese has fewer letters to display than english.
it also was the go to port for speedrunners for a long time, Cosmo had the record on it (still on RUclips) until a new glitch was discovered in the Japanese version rendering the record obsolete
whatifallpotsinzeldaarecuccos No, the text is actually faster as well
Many older games aren't so easy to bump up in famerate. Much of the game's script, timers etc are tied into the framerate which would require a lot more alterations to be made. Also, thanks for confirming I'm not crazy when I say the N64 stick doesn't translate well to modern sticks on emulators.
You've been ranting about text speed for 17 minutes now and I just want to skip the whole video.

I miss you bro! I hope everything is well 🙏
I agree, although i never used them. And to be honest, they kind of annoyed me when i first saw them, but in reality, giving more options to the player is almost everytime a good thing, as long as the game states clearly what is the desired way to play from the developers point of view.
And these games were always made, even back then, with nintendo power and word of mouth in mind. Shigeru Miyamoto design the original Zelda with the intention that people solved the mysteries as a community, so adding hints into a game is really just cutting the middle man
I actually liked Starfox Adventures. I never understood why ethryone is/was bashing it.
It wasn't what people wanted at the time. It wasn't anything like what people thought they'd get out of a star fox game.
Starfox was originally a railshooter, and people wanted a true followup to Starfox 64. Imagine if the next Metroid game being turned into a turned based rpg or a shoot em up. People would lose their fuckin minds, lol. Myself included.
The plot for the game in a nutshell:
Deku Tree: Link hurry, you must go inside of me and kill the giant deadly spider thing before it’s too late.
Link: But I’ve never fought anything before.
Deku Tree: JUST DO IT!
(One dungeon later)
Deku Tree: You were too late Link.
(Goes to castle)
Zelda: Link!
(3 stones and an ocarina later)
Link: Okay. Unseal the door. Unseal the sword. Unseal the Sacred Realm. And Unseal the Triforce.
Ganon: Gwahahaha. Thanks for doing all of the work for me. Now enjoy puberty.
Link: What? (The sounds of aging 7 years instantly)
Sheik: There you are hero. You failed! And now we’re in a post apocalyptic future, because why not?
Link: Hey this was all Zelda’s idea. I can go back and just prevent this from happening you know.
Sheik: No! You need to make things right and atone for your actions. Now go, while I observe you from nearby.
(Five sages later)
Sheik: Great. Anyways you have the triforce of courage while Ganon has Power. The Triforce of Wisdom belongs to the smartest person in the world.
(Reveals herself)
Zelda: AND IT’S ME!
Link: What?! How do you have that? Your plan is the whole reason why the world was doomed.
Zelda: Because that was all your fault. Anyways I hid myself as a sheikah to fool Ganon so he wouldn’t find me. Because I’m soooo smart!
(Ganon captures her)
Zelda: Kyaaaa
Ganon: Thanks for ever so foolishly revealing yourself. Now come to my castle, boy. I say this, but you’re gonna need to build your own bridge to get in.
(One escape sequence later)
Zelda: Yay Link! You did it.
(Ganon comes back)
Zelda: Ahhh
(Link goes and fights him)
Link: Zelda don’t you have insane magic and sheikah powers you could use to help me?
Zelda: No I’m the damsel in distress, ahhh.
(Link fatally wounds Ganon)
Link: Alright Ganon. Time to kill yo-
Zelda: Don’t worry Link! I’ll save you. Sages! Seal him away!
(Ganon is sealed)
Link: Why’d you do that? I was going to kill him! Now he’s just going to come back eventually when the seal is broken.
Zelda: Of course Link. It’s meant to be. There was absolutely no other option.
Link: You know, if I would’ve just ratted Ganon out instead of following your plan, none of this ever would’ve happened.
Zelda: Gasp, you’re right. I’m so smart for thinking of that. Now it’s time for reverse puberty!
Link: What?! (The sounds of an adult voice morphing into prepubescent child voice.)

Zelda: Link! I have a-
(Puts finger to her lip)
Link: Shhhhh. Hey King! Ganon killed the Deku Tree.
King: Gasp, how horrible! Guards, execute him.
Ganon: Wait, What?!
Link: Heh, that was easy.
Someone make this into a Just a Pancake-style video.
Deku Tree: You must save me, Link.
Link: Why me?
Deku Tree: Someone has to and you are the only one in the entire village that has a weapon of any kind.
It’s too funny because it’s true.

And talking about the gamecube version is not really relevant because it's just a port of the original aside from master quest which you could have mostly talked about with the 3ds version.
agreed, this video is super bloated
yeah i feel exo would be more sucessful and be able to get stuff out faster if he trimmed fat
For a man that experienced the game 4 times in a row in different versions I think he kept it pretty short LMAO
I think the point of his videos is about detailing the experience and not just state facts in a dynamic format (even tho leaning a bit more towards that would help the quality and reception of said videos)

I could understand this being made on the first playthrough. Somewhat. But are you telling in none of those replays you used the shortcut that connect Goron City *directly* to the Lost Woods, thus saving time by just going to Death Mountain, then going to the Lost Woods and back again for the song?
I'm baffled at how people miss this
@@ber3089 No, you light a Deku stick on the lower floor, then take it back and light one of the bomb flowers on the walls. You can do this as soon as you enter Goron City.
AkameGaKillfan777 Yeah, but I can see where a first-time player might not know about that. It’s not really hinted at all that well in-game.
@@jacoblauria8180 >Several unlit torches throughout the city
>Lit ones are inside Darunia's room
>A Goron literally tells you to bring fire over from Darunia's room to where the shortcut is
How is this not well hinted again?
Thats a good way to put it. The zelda lullaby segments were there to prove you are affiliated with the royals. Makes a lot more sense that way.

Pretty cool
Yes, easy right? Strange that he didn't know about that after playing the game so many times.

1:02:12 Remake or Rebreak (Conclusion)
Seeing EPG mash his b button constantly also made me laugh.
What's your opinion about Majora's Mask 3D? Remake or rebreak?
I played both versions and, although I prefer the zora swim and the Odolwa boss fight from the N64, I definitely stick with the 3DS version and I think people over exaggerate when talking about the bad parts of the remake.
3DS version was the best for sure. All changes had very legitimate reasons, but purists start crying the moment it's not exactly the same.
IMO it gets a remake score. It makes improvements to the experience and fixes some of the originals problems, however it also introduces some of its own problems so it doesn’t fully replace the original.
Wow...

Great job

SkullWolf Steam That's what I was about to point out.
This.
Master Quest is literally called Ura Zelda in Japan. It's not exactly what was planned originally, but that's true for every game ever made.
Icy Wind
It's still called Ura because it means flip side, which is exactly the first thing you notice in Master Quest.
Except it's only mirrored in the 3DS version.
32:20 what? you bothered trying to go all the way through the rivers up to the waterfall? its much easier to warp to the forest temple (THE FIRST TEMPLE YOU GET) then go to the little pond in the lost woods to get there.
What are you talking about? Resolution increases can be done via emulation and that's what is done for the gamecube release and Wii VC
Essentially, the comparison begins at the 50 minute mark................................... so that's 50 minutes of just reviewing the original game.
he said he'd be reviewing the original game at the start of the video _and_ it's important to understand how the original version functioned in order to compare the redone versions to the original
This video made me put my 3DS on the charger for the first time in probably 6 months. I've never beaten OoT but I'm nearly done with the first third of the game so I'm willing to give it another shot if the game gets significantly better after the child Link sequences at the beginning. Really nice video my man!
How's the 3DS treating ya?
9:13 Actually, Zora's have been around since the first game, they were just redesigned for this one, since it's a prequel.
I thought that was off, I saw another review that said the exact same thing
Not just because it's a prequel but because they're lake zoras, an entirely different subspecies from the river ones.
Yeesh. You'd think they would just port it. It couldn't've been THAT hard, right?
Well, it's a preorder bonus. And seeing that they were busy making wind waker, I don't see they should put much more effort to it.
Besides, I doubt gc is that powerful enough for perfect emulation.
The MM side is even worse
ThePreciseClimber N64 engines are not compatible with the Gamecube.
I really enjoyed listening to this video. So long and detailed, absolute ear candy! Amazing job!
See I grew up with this game. And yet. I get where this guy is coming from.
I also never said that I felt oot was a poorly designed game in general
I DID SAY, the water temple was an example of good game design and fun to play and was one of the best dungeons ever.
You're back! It's about time, my dude.
(OneyPlays also started doing Ocarina of Time is this a conspiracy?)

Hey, after replaying the game recently, I found out with text part is that you can't skip it on the main cutscenes revolving the story. When talking to NPCs however you can skip it.
You uploaded this the day before my bday. This is my favorite game, thanks for the bday gift :)
15:00 someone PLEASE Remind me what this song is called. My class had to play this in school and i miss it.
I’m pretty sure it’s the castle town theme: ruclips.net/video/mhwUcaJPayk/видео.html
It's the market theme
actually these hints also appears after getting a game over so you don't have to backtrack
@@Rexolf101
I'm in the middle of a third playthrough on the GCN version, and yes, it does use the X, Y, and Z buttons.
Best of all time? Nah. One of the most important of all time? Yah.
I’d say best of all time too. I first played it on GameCube myself
Mytru Mara you’re a lucky bastard
I prefer the n64 version and have 0 nostalgia for this game
I also prefer the pre-rendered images and the games original visual aesthetic. Seeing the Market and temple of time for the first time was mind blowing, I had never seen anything like it in a game before
I really don’t think the text speed issue is that bad. I think the intent was an emphasis on dialogue playing out as a spoken sent and would. The pacing.
Sure it’s slow and other games offer options but it doesn’t majorly detract.
I wonder will you ever do one on the sequel majora’s mask?
Fun Fact : Grezzo wanted to do the entire game with an orchestrated sound track, but they ended up not doing it because they figured originalists of OOT would crucify them for changing it
I know I would've had a problem with it. Thank god it stayed the way it was.
I would've been fine with it if they just gave us both and allowed us to toggle between the two when we wanted
@@ori.g4mi how the fuck do you perfer fake synthesized trumpets and drums to actual orchestrated music? are you that nostalgic for the game!?!?!
Another failure from a game developer who hasn't heard of an options menu. Put both in and let the player decide.
@@mjc0961 that would take an enormous amount of time. They'd have to remake all of the songs two times, that's ridicolous
That footage of you mashing the controller is hilarious
40:10 to be fare, if you pay attention, every time Navi turns green somewhere, it means you can play the song of storms and something will happen.
Really??
That cat in the hat joke is beautiful
It's
really refreshing to hear someone who agrees with me that OoT isn't the best, most amazing game ever but finally, FINALLY did it in a way that...*doesn't* try to maliciously insult the people who consider it their favorite game? Why is this such a novel concept to so many people. You can praise a game or talk about its flaws without maliciously tearing into the people that enjoy it. Amazing! (This, unfortunately, applies to a lot of other things outside of video games, and it's a mentality that I will never understand, despite how I form my opinions on things...)
I wish I could give better feedback on this video, but I barely ever get to play OoT, original or remake.
OOT3D graphics look more visually appealing but they have much less character.
@@mjc0961 The D-Pad would’ve been far better than pausing every five seconds.
3DS cause of the better graphics, higher FPS, easier access to inventory and switching items.
Also it has got the Master Quest included for people that want some extra challenge.
Majora's mask 3d remake or rebreak? Please?
Now I wanna see a ROR of Majora's Mask, or one of the Spyro trilogy
