  • Christine is a 1958 French period drama film, based on the 1894 play Liebelei by Arthur Schnitzler. The film was directed by Pierre Gaspard-Huit and the title character was played by Romy Schneider. The cast included Alain Delon as a young lieutenant.
"Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" ("God Save Emperor Franz") is an anthem to the Austrian Emperor Francis II, set to music by Joseph Haydn. The anthem served as the national anthem of Austria-Hungary.

Emperor Franz Joseph looked like such a huggable person in this movie. He just looks like a lovely grandpa.

It was also customary in Russia for audience members to stand and face the monarch as he entered the royal theater box. This custom continued for a while in Russia, even after the Imperial Family had been assassinated - with the box being empty. "Monarchy" is much more natural for we humans than is "democracy". Perhaps one day Austria and other former monarchies will compromise and have both.

@@jamahariya Remember that Poland was not a typical republic. We have created a unique system called the Republic of the Polish Crown and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was a monarchy and a republic at the same time. The word "republic" was understood to mean "common thing". This common thing was to protect our king, freedom and the Catholic faith in Poland and Europe.

At minimum figurehead monarchies to provide a central unifying figure. You don’t get that with politicians that belong to a party. A monarch is the appointed representative of everyone in a nation. They can’t afford to say they support a party or one ideology.

No, just no. Unless your ancestors had a social status that meant you probably should have been someone who's around people that own land stretching farther than the eyes can see with at least a small castle or manor on it, what you lost amounts probably to a healthy church life and a farmer lifestyle.
Actually, that culture is still pretty much around. Everywhere in europe. You just have to be part of the social group. And I'm not talking about rich people, though they often are.
I'd argue that the farmer culture is still of much better taste than some rap garbage, though. We can agree on that.
