    I loved Tatras as soon as I saw them online. When I held them I loved them even more.
    Then I tried them on... and it was all over. For me, they are simply unwearable for longer period of time by any means - and I tried regular, wide and bunion.
    Ended up with Alaskas that I disliked with passion designwise :)
    My point - go out, find store, try your wannabe boots on!
    That is the most important thing to do because your feet just don't give a *** about what you like.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  4 года назад +1

      what happened? they didn't fit or?

    • @windowlickerltd2
      @windowlickerltd2 4 года назад +3

      Yup.
      I feel like Tatras are build slightly more narrower than most boots.
      My foot is wider in the front part behind toes, but I felt compressed even in the wide version of Tatras. Also I had feeling the toebox is slighlty curved inwards.
      As soon as I slipped into regular Hanwag Alaska GTX I felt like in wide Tatras, but much more comfortable due to different inner boot shape.
      Took Hanwag wide Alaska GTX at the end and it fits like a glove.
      But don't get me wrong! That is nothing against Tatras at all!
      Hanwag build quality and materials are superb. I just wanted to point out that even if you like some model of boot, it simply may not be the right one for you. Because of your foot shape.
      Also, I read opinions in conversation below about leather/gtx lining preferences and wanted to add my 2p in.
      Leather lining doesn't like constant changes of humidity. If your feet sweat a lot or you're getting your boots wet regulary you might be better off with gtx.
      The leather will eventualy (even if cared for properly) turn hard and generate cracks.
      I don't like membranes personally (wax on shoes+clothes all day), but prefer gtx anyway because it can deal with wet conditions better than leather.

    Hanwag Tatra II are like a Mercedes car! Luxury, stable, however heavy but non slip secure steps! Not the boots I would use for a 50 mile hike, but for shorter hikes and mountain adventures, nothing compares to Hanwag!! You can tell the high quality, from the first moment you try them out! For people, that want to upgrade to a better (thicker) insole, chose a half or 1 size bigger than your normal. I recommendhalf size up, so that you can use thicker socks, for more comfort!! I went 1 size up and got the wide version, that way, I can use thicker socks and insoles, to improve them even fearther! PS The only downside, is the thin insoles they come with.Other than that, probably the BEST mountain boots out there! Really high quality!!

      @greekveteran2715 Год назад +1

      @@vornamenachname7862 "I recommend half size up (mean boot), so that you can use thicker socks, for more comfort!! " That's what I said. Hanwag Tatra II, come kind of narrow and their insoles are the worst I've ever had on any shoe. Add to that, the fact that those boots are very stiff and heavy. I got half size larger boot and added a better insole. That way, you can also use thicker trekking socks and for those boots, it makes a huge difference.

    I had my pair for over 2000km so far, once re-soled. Never had a blister or any problems with them. Panic-bought a new pair as it is almost impossible to find them in my size few days ago. The leather feels a lot stiffer than on the old ones when i got them first, and i was disappointed to get a pair without the locking eyelets. We'll see how they are when they are broken in

    I was looking at the Tatras, but went with the Grunten instead. I got it in a leather lined (not goretex) model, because I find Goretex boots end up just making your feet wet from sweat and take so long to dry out (the liners never last very long and become very much useless... At least in my experience.).. and I prefer boots that can be resoled. The "stitch down" construction. I find the ones that are cemented on also tend to fall off.. In my experiences :P
    The Gruntens are also my first Hanwags so maybe they are better than the others (Danners and Lowas haven't treated me too well so far).

    Hello, can you give recommendations on how to dry boots. Is it fine if you dry the boots next to the woodfire? Is there any differences between gore tex and leather boots in the drying aspect?

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  4 года назад

      Hey! Leather and rubber will melt if you keep the boots to close to the fire, be very careful when if you want to dry them like that. If you’re out a good way to dry them is to put them in a place where the air circulation is good. The gore text membrane is a bit harder to dry out. :)
