My father was winder back in the 1950s and looked after the the steam engines, they eventually ended at Bank hall colliery Burnley As kid used to fall sleep listening to the coal wagons racing up an down west end road happy happy days.

My Grandad Albert Kilgour worked there, and I think my Dad, Ron Carter worked there as an apprentice sparky when he was young. My Nana and Grandad Kilgour lived in Holmes Carr Crescent. When I was little I used to get told off for sitting on the wall in the back garden, because I used to get my pants covered in soot. All my family gone now, but still these photos remind me of happy memories. Thank you :)
My granddad Harry George Buttle was a miner at Rossington pit. He worked there pre- 1970's, then when his lungs got bad he cobbled shoes in a shed in the back garden. They lived on Grange Road.
Great video, I returned for a visit 8 years ago after leaving for Oz in 1960. What the F has happenned to the gas street lights. And the Hippodromeg has gone.

i loved the vid it brings back loads of memories.i worked there from 1962 to 1965.the only person i remember was george telford. we ended up bouncing at the top rank suit..remeber winning the locker draw once lol.i used to travel from cantley 1 very early mornings..i would love to get in contact with george again i remember he used to bree falcons i think..please help if you can a phone number would be good.ahhhhh. my name....des smith..cheers.
Hey, my husband's grandfather was a pit sinker at Rossington and was killed in an accident in 1915. I understand there is (was) a memorial at the colliery with the names of the miners who were lost at the pit. Do you have a photo of the memorial at all, including the inscription of the names of the miners? Thanks.

I was taken away from the family at birth and had very little contact with them before they died. Would your Kilgour relations have been relations of mine too?

My Family and my mams (Powell) all worked at that pit, my dad wouldnt let me go down the mines as he saw what was coming, i jined the Army and saw from a distance what happened to Rosso, concurent governments have destroyed a heritage

@tutorsteve Hi yes i know Bill and Jimmy and still see them regular i worked with Bill at Rossington colliery and when i was younger we had a good football team at the Labour club and Jimmy helped to run it

i love british mining history, went on a couple of solidarity marches & union rallys in 84 as a youngster with my dad.

yes they are in the process of reclaiming the pit tip , about 5 years work .

sites changed once again the reclamation has halted & now houses are being built on the main colliery site with a direct access to Donny via lakeside
