Lyrics: Alfred Scholz (1942)
Melody: Primavera (Katjusha)
Played and sung by Karl Sternau
1. Vom Ladogasee im Norden
zogen wir durch Eis und Schnee,
zu Starija Russas Mauern
am verfluchten Ilmensee.
2. Partisanen rings umlauern,
nachts klingt krächzend ihr Hurrä,
in Starija Russas Mauern,
am verfluchten Ilmensee.
3. 48 Grad im Schatten
setzt sogar der Stuhlgang matt,
wenn wir das in Frankreich hatten,
fand der Krieg im Sande statt.
4. Schöne Frauen, rote Rosen,
Nachtlokale sind uns fremd,
aber Läuse und Franzosen,
und die Wanzen jeder kennt.
5. Nachts die Sowjets-Kaffern ballern,
unentwegt knallt die Artillerie,
unsere Feldpost ist verschollen,
Heimaturlaub gibt es nie.
6. Mag der Krieg noch 10 Jahre dauern,
wir halten durch bei Eis und Schnee,
um Starija Russas Mauern,
am verfluchten Ilmensee.

The "Franzose Kuchenschabe" is called the German Cockroach in French.
*how ironic*
How is it written in French?
French and Germans seem to really have a history of "loving" each other very much.
Lots of cultural exchanges, left, right and centre.

@@Theredcarolinian yeah it really didn't age well
Can you please time stamp the part that says "unser Hoffnung ist gestorben"?
I couldn't find it.
A song that really shows the struggles of being a soldier
Haha barely
It just carries a sadness in the overall mood and tone of the song. It sounds depressing tbh
@@josephstalin5751 yeah it does, and thats why I listen to it when sad (cause sad songs make me relate with the soldiers in sad soldier songs since I know they are sad but are/were in a far worse situation than me)
Pretty sure I’ve never heard of this because it wasn’t very well known, because its *demoralizing af*
That is just American point of view. You are too used to lie to yourself about your own emotions
@@Martina-Kosicanka As Indigenous Native the song has emotion that invokes the internal struggle of faithful duty. Wouldn't say demoralizing rather the acknowledgement that just holding on is more than enough.
@@dandrewtsinnijinnie4504 I agree, man can find a strength in acceptance
Hmm. Might be cultural difference, but atleast for Finns, "Sad" songs boost morale more than others. Because sad songs tell about "What if we fail"
Americans for example have always been safe and secure on their continent. So they need "Boosting songs" so they get confidence to leave the safety.
@@jarskil8862 Very true. Nothing good came from american culture in past 15 years, other than forced americanization of other cultures and morals.

My great grandfather fought in the eastern front. He was shot with 2 soviet bullets in his lungs.
@@reginafarias Died 20 years later because of lung cancer.
Love the guitar playing in the background.
Can someone explain the meaning of the line "If we had that in France, the war would've taken place in the sand?"
so cold that regular temperature feels like burning desert
who else loves the original too?
Dude , Could you make " Smuglyanka Moldavanka " ?
The Spanish version is fascistically fanatical. The Germans are righteously whining about the cold(Who can blame them?).
If *that* is not *deliciously* ironic, I don't know what is.
Next please: Le Chant du depart
This "demoralisating" song reminds me (by its attitude) of certain Russian song. RUclips video containing it shows pictures of loses on the both sides and goes also under a German title (Das Lied aller Panzermänner.) here:
ruclips.net/video/3JnEZU6h-ko/видео.html
It is shockigly gore, describing how the fate of tankman is to burn in his tank and how photo of him in uniform goes ever more yellow and is catching dust, while that soldiers will never able to marry his fiancé.
It is drastic, but it somehow allows you to summon strength to face inevitable and to find peace
Why... why did you have to do this...? Now, depression is an integral part of me and will never leave, the moral weight of the thousands of tankers who perished in horrifying pain will never stop getting heavier and heavier on my shoulders and my soul. I am now destined to live a life of emotional pain and sadness until my final breath...
@@tanaka7186 I think it is sort of beautiful, in the way how ugly truth can be beautiful.
@@tanaka7186 I uploaded on my channel a version of the song sung by Viktor Sorokin. It was originally uploaded on a channel of a Serbian guy, but the channel got deleted. I managed to download it before.

Not affront, but your people began the war against the Sovietunion and they had to take-on the consequences for this.
Yeah, they should have let the ussr bulldoze all of Europe...😒
@Capitalist Insurrection Chile I didn't say that nor for a moment. But the Allies (England and US) knew that the soviets, early or late, will defeat the germans. So they support them, but it's true they didn't sympathize with the Sovietunion nor the communism. It's in their own favour. Not accidentally they opened the second front only in 1944: everybody knew that the germans lose the war. But meanwhile, the Allies could deal with more important things for them: area of Pacific Ocean, Africa and Italy. They had great lossess in these campaigns, so it's understandable didn't want suffer similar on the second front. They wanted only dictate rules to germans in Karlshorst, on the capitulation conference, but they must make compromise with Stalin. This is my opinion about your ''Uncle Sam survived the Sovietunion''.
I have put dislike only because I m from Russia. And my grandfather fought against Nazis, who sang this song. Karl, please, don't cover Nazis songs anymore (
It´s an anti war song from Alfred Scholz.
