I didn't think they should've traded for him in the first place. His year this year said he was marginally worse than Kuz, with Kuz being played by a coach that didn't allow him to play to his strength. First thing I thought was it was a Benning level of asset throw away. Was willing to wait and see, as this GM has done fantastic to that point. Meh, can't hit a home run every time at bat.

    • @kempnercanucks
      @kempnercanucks  2 месяца назад

You’re right we can’t hit a home run on every trade and every signing but talk it did not like his defensive play. I think he enjoyed his offensive playmaking abilities but you have to have both

@@kempnercanucks I would disagree in some cases. You need a finisher. You put him with a guy that's great on D but can't finish - league is full of those. Finishers are a lot harder to come by, and you sacrifice a lot of offense by a "200 foot game" (which is often code for- he can't score) As a coach, I can say its a lot easier to teach solid D, than to teach the creativity required for goalscoring. - In my experience anyway. All things being equal, yeah you take the guy that's good at both, but I'd take a 40 goal guy over a 20 goal guy pretty much everytime. (Yes, it depends on just how bad he is a D 😉)

    • @wainber1

Kuz's regular-season minus-1 with he Canucks makes me question, with that team having had a goal difference over +10, how good his defence had been. Furthermore, thru 43 games with the Canucks (excluding preseason ones) after last April, he'd put up 21 points (8 goals) -> not even a half-point. Perhaps too many Canucks' forwards had after last preseason, but before this week's Canucks-Kings' game, averaged UNDER ½ PPG.
The blueline could sure use some work but holy smokes is depth scoring quite limited. Sure, scoring 2 goals CAN win games, as it did:
      - last weekend for the Canucks against the Ducks
      - for the Bolts in a May 2022 playoff game with a Leaf team those Bolts would beat 2-1 in regulation in the 7th and final game of that series
Losses have still been quite common in playoff games for teams that've scored UNDER 3 goals, with last postseason, under such circumstances, the record of the:
      - Oilers having been 0-3
      - Leafs having been 2-5
      - Jets also having been 0-3 (the other 2 teams having advanced to conference semis)

@@dallasburgess5329 There are d-men who score, and in last May's Latvia-Sweden quarterfinal (won 3-1 by the relevant Latvian team) at the IIHF Adult Men's Worlds Top Division tourney, Leafs' d-man Tim Liljegren was the ONLY goal-scorer for the relevant Swedish team (assists from Wings' winger Lucas Raymond and Leksands IF d-man Anton Lindholm). That loss was the only regulation won by a Swedish team that had ended the prelim round in 2nd in Group A with 18 points (via a 5-1-1-0 regulation win - extra-time win - extra-time loss - regulation loss record). The relevant US team had been the Group A round-robin winner with 6 and 1 respective regulation and extra-time wins, only to leave the relevant tourney medal-less via consecutive OT losses to its German and Latvian counterparts.
NHL regular-season success only means so much although scoring just 2 goals per game at most often doesn't mean consistent regular-season or playoff success. Even the Winnipeg Jets found that out in January, with a record (on wins and regulation, OT and shootout losses) of 3-3-1-0 under such circumstances vs 2-3-0-0 in February. The Canucks' 0-5-0-0 record last month when having scored UNDER 3 goals is a BIG reason they ended that month with a 5-6-2-0 record.

I think Lindholm will be incredibly useful once he finds his chemistry.
Also Lindholm is defensively aware and has 60% in the faceoff circle, he makes smart high % plays and doesnt cough the puck up stupidly.

Man oh man where do these stories come from!!! So many fan comments that Van thought this acquisition was for a point a game player who was going to put Van OVER THE TOP and now they are not only “a” favourite for the cup but “THE” favourite! He has 551 points in over 800 games!!! Decent numbers of course but he had a point a game season ONLY ONCE!! Once in 11 seasons! And in Calgary he had some very good line/team mates. And now magically he’s going to become a point a game player. You know, sometimes you have to look at things realistically.

This is the first time they’ve made the playoffs in a long time and it’s not a good strategy to go all in on a one and done playoff run. I like Lindholm but i feal we needed size and grit for the playoffs (both of wich could have been aquired cheaply).Hes a point a game and strong in the face off circle. That isnt going to open the ice for other skilled players,be first with a hit to dig the puck out of the corner. We spent a lot for him and if he resigns with us will there be money left for Hronek( likely 8 mil. Per). The loss of Joshua may have started our skid, how much is he next year 3mil.?Just saying is he the right part at this time?We have more skill coming 2025 from Sweden but 0 protection for them when they get here and it appears the NHL is going back to goon style hockey.A team has to have a balance of grit and skill. For every player who will not give blood to win you must have another that is talented at taking blood ,(like a Perry,Reaves,Rempke,Olivier, etc). We are headed down the stretch run without such players and our skill guys will pay the price.Teams will target Hughes,Petterson,Boesser and Hoggie till they are useless. Miller cant do it all himself continuously .So its a wrap as far as i can see.Is it too late in the season to add some size?We may be able to trade Lindholm to the Blue Jackets for a line of it and may even be able to resign some of it for next year.

Furthermore, the Penguins aren't going to trade productive 29 year old Guentzel for struggling (and unsigned beyond the season) 29 year old Lindholm. Dubas wants to get younger. He reportedly wants NHL ready prospects, and some combination of picks and/or a young(er) roster player.

@@kempnercanucks Doesnt matter. Why would Pens want a ufa when they are not in the playoffs? They want prospects for the future. If they were interested in Lindholm, which they won't be, they can make a play for him in the off-season.

So you are judging a guys fit with the team after just a few weeks? you need to give him a few months to gel with his teammates.

I totally understand what you’re saying, but this is exactly what happens with rental payers all the time. They get a very short window to prove whether they can fit and help the team or not. Tonight will be 15 games in. We have just a little bit more time before the trade deadline happens, and that’s about the same amount of time. Most teams get a player from the trade deadline to the playoffs. By trading him early, we got to see him and how he fits.

We gave up alot for lindholm who wants 9 million and is a rental. You want to trade him and more for another rental who wants 8 or 9 ? Do we even know he is good without crosby? Not smart. Plus why would they trade a younger guenstal for older lindholm? They want young players and prospects. If we trade for him guarantee you wont be happy trev. Say goodbye to hoglander and polds and another top prospect. Maybe he fits in well and signs with us but say goodbye to brockstar in the summer. That might happen anyway. I want a gritty forward and another top 4 dman. Go get me schenn from the blues or tom wilson type player. We are to soft for the playoffs

I want someone to click with Pettersson. Lindholm doesn't seem to be the answer. I like your Schenn suggestion.

He hasn’t been playing with petey so that argument is pretty stupid but yes he’s been useless

Not true. He hasn't been playing with Petey recently. Most of his games he's played with Petey. Lindholm hasn't looked like he fits yet. Hopefully he turns it around.

@@kempnercanucks he played with Petey for like a little over a week just a few games thats all. He’s been playing on his own lines since then only thing he’s working with Petey on is the pp. yes tho he has struggled but i think it’s to do with the ridiculous linemates we’ve had him with these last 8 games. It does seem he’s struggling a lot offensively anyway. Wouldn’t be suprised if we see something moved very soon here

    How does 4 goals + 2 assists = 14 points in 14 games ?

Yeah his production is even worse than it was with the Flames and that was considered a big step down.

hahaha maybe? But it's been something I've been thinking about. Rutherford loves trading with Pitts and what I find ridiculous is the fans who think we are trading for Crosby.

Lindholm has absolutely no value for a non playoff team, which Pittsburgh is, even if they wanted to go after him long term they can just wait until the offseason, trading for a guy then flipping him a month later because he didn't find instant chemistry is borderline retarded.
