    You are so right. Before I became blind I was a big fan of the android. Three years ago after 27 years of being a sighted person I became blind. I was robbed, shot in the face and the doctor said the bullets damaged my optic nerves. When I started using the iPhone and the voiceover accessibility it was so smooth

    i used both iphone n a pixel phone for a month each in 2023 n much prefer the android pixel phone, seriously superior for my blindness. if u hav friends or fam upgrading to newer phones, get a 1 mo actvation on their old phone n really use it every day, then decide for yourself imho. good luck everyone!

    I have used an iPhone for almost 7 years now, and I tried switching to an Android phone, and it would’ve worked, had it would’ve been compatible with my carrier. I liked how the phone, when I tried it, it was responsive, and was quick to respond, but, VoiceOver I think always wins in the end.

    Have you used/tried People Detection? It uses LiDAR which is only on the more recent higher-end iPhones. If so, what are your thoughts and perspective? I tested it today on my iPhone 13 Pro with my visually-impaired relative in mind. Thanks for sharing your story.

    • @AdaptingSight
      @AdaptingSight  2 года назад +2

      I have used it a bit throughout the years as it has definitely improved. I don't think it is a super practical tool when trying to detect people in your surroundings like with the app Seeing AI, but I do think it is really neat and useful when recognizing people within images while using VoiceOver since the IOS 15 update. Really cool that your testing out assistive tech features with your relative. It is always special when family and friends are interested in tech too.

    Some visually impaired people don't just use any android phone it has to be a Samsung phone. I've been using Samsung for 8 years or so only because of its accessibility. So easy to navigate. The talk back features and the magnification Are all about the same you would get with an iPhone

    I agree. When I began to lose my sight in my left eye I could still use my iPhone because of its accessibility features. My son is hearing impaired and he uses bilateral cochlear implants to assist him to hear. He swears by iPhone and says he will never use any other operating system because he can listen to music as if he had airpods. He can talk on the phone. Etc.

    I am going to disagree with you on one issue as I am completely blind. I started out with an iPad then went to a XR phone now with a regular 11 I like the smaller screen because I can physically find things easier now this is because I am completely blind no magnification does me any good however, I can easily see how a bigger screen with someone who still has some site the magnification would help, but this is with me and my personal choice the smaller screen is easier to navigate for me

      @@AdaptingSight personally on this issue I think this is going to come down to personal taste for each blind individual. I think it would be really good for someone to try a bigger screen and a smaller screen to see what does work best for them because this is what I physically done like I said, started out with an iPad then went to a smaller phone found out I like the smaller screen better, but this was just me and my experience

I have spoken to both Apple and WhatsApp but there are too few of us dependent on voice over to coordinate their system with iOS.

      That makes sense as iPhones can definitely be a lot more than other phones. Have you looked into the iPhone SE? Those are going to be the most affordable iPhone option at around $400 I believe. I think there is a new one coming out this year so the previous SE would probably drop in price making it even more affordable and comparable to other phones.

    I use the zoomed in screens, but it’s a pain at times because I have to fill in my address, etc. and that’s hard for me because of arthritis. I have an iPad, but didn’t get wi-fi since I use it only at home. I have no problem using the IPAD. I crochet a lot so I store thousands of images & patterns. I never have trouble following the text or having to fool around with text size, etc. Too bad it’s so big!’I only get a new phone about every 3-4 years. My old phone was a 6. I love it, but I want to be sure a new one has what I need. Do you know if the new iPhone has the same issue with the zooming & auto fillin? Thank you for doing this video. I’m not visually impaired but I have autoimmune illnesses that affect my eyes.I used to teach Special Ed. to physically challenged students. How I would have loved all this technology back then.

    • @AdaptingSight
      @AdaptingSight  2 года назад

      Yes I have definitely heard that from a lot of blind people as the home button gives a good tactile feature to the phone. It is weird for anybody to get used to not having a home button but I think the extra screen real estate that it provides is really beneficial and after not much getting used to the home button gestures when there is no home button, I think it is a pretty great feature and is integrated well with voiceover and using other forms of haptic feedback
