I'm still enjoying mine, mainly for recording acoustic guitar but have hundreds of hours of prerecorded music. Can't imagine ever selling it

I bought two of them plus a 100 watt amp and two speakers for a £5 at our local recycle about five years ago, I must try them out one day!

I have a GX-266 II (manufactured on April 7, 1981) which I purchased on eBay from the original owner about 10 years ago. I had to replace all (13, if I remember correctly) of the 2SC458 transistors which go bad due to "black wire" issues common to that particular transistor and also repair the auto reverse circuit, which was DOA. Paid $150 , shipped. They are selling for about $1500 in good working order now, due to a resurgence in analog music. Mine is in near mint condition. It records and plays beautifully. The GX-266 II adds remote control capability and the faceplate is all brushed aluminum with aluminum switch gear. the layout is identical, otherwise.
If you have an old tape deck with problems, check out Tapehead.net. there are some great people out there that will help you troubleshoot and fix them.

Everything is well set up, works great! All I had to do was remove the dust and apply new grease in some places.

I have this reel to reel machine. Mine still going strong too. Unfortunately, I don't have good tapes for recordings. I have some ORWO and BASF tapes but they are a bit old and underperforming. Excelent video anyway!

Why does Akai have a bad reputation about the glass ferrite heads? I own this deck and i don't see any problem,I've had this deck for over 35 years and it is still going strong,i haven't had any tapes destroyed by it.

In my country, the glass head AKAI has a good reputation. It records and plays well.
