I didn’t like “Masochist” the first time I heard it, but by chance I watched the video again when I was filled with intense anger and frustration and, bizarrely, I found it comforting and cathartic. “Kujobeats” has the same effect on me when I’m like that. This kind of music is a safety valve, I think, for people who have a tendency to internalise these emotions, which can often affect their mental health, adversely.
Somewhere I heard this about metal music: "Sometimes relief does not come with a sigh but with a scream." I listen to heavy death core stuff relatively often. And most people do not understand that it relaxes me. It just doesn't fill me with anger and aggression, it's a valve for all that, as you said.
Hey, you can’t be upbeat and positive all the time, lol. Like Ren said in his million subscribers video if you feel anger and hatred feel it, be with it, express it and let it go.
Ren explained in Hi Ren at the end that "The Brighter the light shines the greater the shadow it casts" See how happy and bright Ren can be at times, there is also times where ren is way down or even filled with pure rage. This song is one of the rage ones where he needs to get it out of his body and be done with it. Ren says some wild stuff in this one but it is only metaphorically or said in anger sort of way. If you ever have a bad day where your anger builds put this song on and you will see it in a different light and even feel calmer/better afterwards

I definitely see the death and re-birth cycle idea here. Also in line with that, sometimes we have to kill off all our old belief systems to see the world or reality in a new and novel way. We are shaped by so much from media and societal lenses, sometimes you have to strip everything back to its beginnings or kill off the old to bring in new awareness and I feel like Ren does that in his life too - swallowing the Morpheus pill is a good line to demonstrate that matrix awareness ❤
I don't know , since i practice Buddhism i got it right away, i actually had no idea of the community response to it .. till you just looked it up. Anxiety people are quick to cut off things we think are draining us emotionally and introverts don't really make ties to anyone. So the song just make sense to me. Anyway this is one of my favorites but i am slowly going into Prada's catalog too. Totally recommend checking it out.
