Love TAD speakers, years ago met Andrew Jones at an Australian Hi-Fi show. I know he no longer works for TAD but his designs and engineering shines through!
The TADs are the best speakers I have heard, period. When you visit audio shows as I have over the years, there are certain components that stand out while all the other gear just dissipates into the ether. You won’t forget the TADs anytime soon. I found myself repeatedly going back to the room where the TADs were, hooked up to Krell FPB-300s. Heaven
My CSS Criton 1TD-X are just getting some time on them. I'm completely happy and they do sound great. I can't see spending any more in a room with a big TV, non-symmetrical room setup, no treatment other than a king-sized bed and carpeting.
The new $20K JERN 35 Monitors made out of High-Graphite CAST IRON might just be the new KING of stand mount speakers period ! They have a Dealer in New York City ! Game-Changer....
According to Stereophile's 2018 review of these, this was the first new TAD speaker that wasn't designed by Andrew, as it was developed after he left to work for Elac, although they say it retains some of his influence. Their chief engineer is Toru Nagatani, who is based at their Japanese headquarters
Just keep coming back to the TAD ME1 , impossible to ignore and dismiss at your peril if purchasing up to $15k on a pair of bookshelf speakers. I would love to hear a comparison of this TAD with Marten Parker Duo , Yamaha NS3000 & Sonus Faber Guarneri
Although I haven't heard this particular TAD, I have no doubt everything you said is true. TAD may not have the physical bling like a Wilson or Magico but believe me when I say they are in another sonic league all together. I have never heard a TAD sound anything other than world class. The ET703 horn tweeter they have now sadly discontinued is simply the most amazing tweeter I have ever heard. As they did start as a pro driver company they have offered high end home gear for many years now Jay.
I had an eerily similar experience when I got my TAD E1-TX, couples well to the room and nice soundstage even if the placement is quite bad and just so much details. I'm really really happy with them! :D
I bought a pair of Pioneer RM-05 active monitors on a whim. These are coaxial monitors designed by TAD with a Pioneer logo on them. They sound absolutely incredible. It sounds as if the audio is coming from the center of my listening space without there being an actual speaker there. They're also heavy at nearly 10kg each, built out of diecast aluminium. I was at a clearout sale and these were floor models that had been used for some years, but the first thing I did with all the speakers they had was knock on the cabinet to see how "solid" they are and these hurt my knuckles and hardly made a sound. Hardly anyone bought these Pioneer models when they got released and it's a real shame since they're so good. Also, apparently the guy at TAD worked at KEF where he invented those type of drivers.
I have a pair of Magico A1’s driven by a Krell K300i. Stream via nucleus with chord mscaler and TT2. Separation is outstanding, the speakers disappear. 3d like depth. Bass is outstanding. No port allows me to place them very close to the back wall. Listening space is 12’ wide x 20’ depth.
Difficult to find dealers that have TAD, and not showcased at audio shows often. Did get to hear the TAD Evolution 2 floorstander at this year's Axpona. Very smooth and refined sound.
Hi Jay, would be great if you would review the Dutch & Dutch 8c speakers. Active bookshelves, cardiod design, DSP with room correction and built in SW. They are really great.
Suggested about this on your 10K Sonus Faber review. Glad that you bought them! I'd say steps above in terms of resolution retrieval without losing the midrange smoothness. Next one you shall try, Genelec 8631 pair. This is the end game bookshelf for me right now.
You need to compare them to the Focal Sopra 1, the best bookshelf speaker I've ever heard. It was Alpha Audio's reference speaker for a long time, until they replaced it with some TAD floorstanders
Hey Jay, I am using the Joseph Audio Pulsar 2 bookies....about the same pricing of the TADs. I ditched the conventional stands and purchased some cool table top stands that are a bit lower to the floor and perfect. Also I am rounding it out with a pair of REL T7s. I agree with you in this category these speakers are a serious competitor with some name brand high end floorstanders. Doesn't hurt to use some decent amplification as well.....the Hegel H590 rules. Thanks Jay, excellent presentation.
Great review. I would love to see you review one of the Vivid Audio speakers. I may be biased, coming from South Africa as I do, but I would still really enjoy hearing your take on one of the units in the Vivid Kaya range (like the Kaya 25 or Kaya 45), or, if at all possible, maybe the Giya 4 (the smallest in the Giya range).
Hi Jay, have just seen you video here and am thankful for your review. I am almost ready to commit on a new pair of this ME1 n woulf be pairing it with my current Accuphase E800 Class A integrated amplifier n my recently acquired Esoteric N05XD streamer together with the same Esoteric G02X clock...hope everything comes together well. Watch your videos often n many thanks to your RUclips contributions!! 👍👏

You also say the negatives when it's the case. etc... It would be great if you could help me with the following question: How does the ME1 compares with the CE1 (the bigger bookshelf in the lineup)? Thank you
Very good video Jay with detailed explanation about sound, technical perspective and amplifier combinations. I have never heard these speakers but they should be amazing. The review of TheAlphaAudio (Dutch channel/website) about the TAD Evolution 2 floorstanding loudspeakers also noticed the quality of TAD speakers as their new reference. I am not sure if these will fit into your space (maybe too big?) but over here they cost a 1000 euro more then these ME1's so maybe it's something to look into as a review. But as you mentioned earlier, it's all about personal taste, making compromises, and finding out what works best for you. I am big fan of Dynaudio speakers (you should try Confidence 20) but I recently heard SF Maxima Amator and they sounded great also. Keep up the good work! Greetings from The Netherlands.

The only issue is the TAD speakers are extremely picky about AMPs. You will get a very good sound when matching with TAD's own AMP. Another brand called Analog Domain also matches very well maybe even better than TAD's own AMP. But they are damn expensive as the TAD speaker itself...
Thank you for the review! Sounds like these are the best in their class but still I would name few other models that may compete with the TADs . I'm thinking of Marten Parker duo, Vimberg Amea, QLN Prestige. If you ever had a chance to demo any of the models I would like to hear your thoughts. Also, I would like to know if these TADs completely wiped the floor with the sonus fabers or they just do better in terms of imaging and soundstaging? I do own SF Olympica speakers and I think they are unmatched in timbral accuracy
So Jay are you going to trade these TADs for your Sonus Fabers? The hifi game can cruel for us enthusiasts 😂. Personally, I’ve tried the Vivid Audios Kayas and they’re good … so fast but balanced.
If these come with the stands, shouldn't the stands be prewired on the inside so you don't have to have speaker wire trailing down the support pole? Do these need a subwoofer also and does TAD offer one that pairs with these? According to a Stereophile review and testing, these drop off significantly below 60 Hz.
Jay, I am a bargan basement audio enthusiast. I try to make comments with truth & humor whenever possible. Unless a audio show comes to Winnipeg, I will be out of luck.... My audio equipment consists of Vandersteen )SP), Peachtree (Amp), NAD (CD), ELAC Debut 1 and Grado headphone. My old Yamaha turntable from the 80's is still in use downstairs, when i'm nostalgic.
I think I recognised an Atoll amp sitting on your lowboard in the background. Am I right and did you ever review it? I love it for its subtle power, smoothness and minimal design. But I keep wondering which DAC would be a fitting upgrade - Qutest, Pontus, RME...
Yup but i listened before, reckon the is better speaker the the kef top of the line bookshelf. the only lacking i found this speaker is the bass department, i probably demo it a pretty large room with other speaker around
Hi Jay. I would like to purchase a Willsenten 800i to drive my Klipsche Belles. What do you advise for purchase venue? Chi fi direct or amazon? Or other unknown. I would like to have sooner then later. Thx
The wave guide on this doesn't seem optimized. We want reduced vertical dispersion outside of +-15degrees. Horozontal dispersion should be wide and even, and should match the mid range dispersion characteristics.
it didn't best the sonus fabers, it was on par (talking about performance only). TAD bests my sonus fabers in terms of performance on paper and listening tests. It is also physically bigger than both the css and sonus faber + TAD speakers are 3 way speakers (has that natural advantage of having an extra driver to do the work etc)
I loved (modest budget) Ae1's from acoustic energy of the UK. Jay, is it at all possible you could review this company's flagship speaker, the reference one tx as a comparison? I would love to know the bang-for-the-buck factor.
Hey Jay long time admirer of you channel. Bought the Vincent 237 mk2… love it. Bought the Buchardt s400 mk2. Love them. But…. Always looking for upgrade. Looking at Tad me1, Sonos Fabar electa amateur iii Guardneri series. Any thoughts to an upgrade? 10k-20k. Thanks
Jay, I really enjoyed this review. The TAD stand mount is now on my short list to audition. Btw, may I ask you to name the speaker wire lifters seen in your YT vid? Cheers.
Kevlar is not new tech for woofers. B&W used it for many years before switch to their crappy continuum woofers, which contributed greatly to that brand's downfall, IMO, as I liked their Kevlar woofer speakers much more. Wharfedale has also used Kevlar for many years, and still do use it, in the Dentons and Lintons, as well as others, although TAD calls it aramid, as Kevlar is a type of aramid trademarked by Dupont
How does any company justify the price of those high end speakers when they are not at top notch level per Danny gr. I would expect ll speakers o have it best frequency at the time I purchase them
Video would have been too long and it was already longer than I expected. But I can answer you here. TAD is hands down a better performing speaker. More transparent, neutral, accurate, more full range but Sonus faber has a more jazzy tone, smooth and beautiful midrange

good question. Tune Tots are very dynamic speakers and also made for practical placements (and not necessarily limited for only treated rooms). Yup but i listened before, reckon the is better speaker the the kef top of the line bookshelf. the only lacking i found this speaker is the bass department, i probably demo it a pretty large room with other speaker around
I wonder these would be an upgrade to a Dynaudio Heritage Special...
It indeed is. I have a pair in and listened to it side by side
@@Jayiyagi hello, i have seen you had iotavx gear you liked. i have seen noone try the IOTAVX AVXP 2-840 amp. It would be great to see this on review.
Great review. Are they better than B&W 805 D4 and KEF Reference 1?
I don’t know about this ME1 but i heard the CR1 which are bigger than the ME1s & i still prefer the B&W sound. Of cos as they always say ymmv.
Must have been a poorly set up or matched CR1.
They must be good if you say so
Are you ever going to review those Gato amplifiers!!
Hello Jay I'm curious what are those CSS 3 ways in your Intro?
Hi Jay. I would like to purchase a Willsenten 800i to drive my Klipsche Belles. What do you advise for purchase venue? Chi fi direct or amazon? Or other unknown. I would like to have sooner then later. Thx
would you try Townshend Audio podiums in place of Isoacoustics for comparison of imaging and bass control?
The wave guide on this doesn't seem optimized. We want reduced vertical dispersion outside of +-15degrees. Horozontal dispersion should be wide and even, and should match the mid range dispersion characteristics.
How does the CSS audio 1TDX compare?
Only asking because you said the 1TDX bested your $10k Sonus Faber.
it didn't best the sonus fabers, it was on par (talking about performance only). TAD bests my sonus fabers in terms of performance on paper and listening tests. It is also physically bigger than both the css and sonus faber + TAD speakers are 3 way speakers (has that natural advantage of having an extra driver to do the work etc)
Will these speakers sound good w my lyngdorf 3400 amp?
iIdo not like the design of the slot port design but i bet they sound great
For $15K They better be all that and a bag of chips. My Watkins Gen 4 will have to do for now maybe someday
I loved (modest budget) Ae1's from acoustic energy of the UK.
Jay, is it at all possible you could review this company's flagship speaker, the reference one tx as a comparison?
I would love to know the bang-for-the-buck factor.
I wonder how these compare to a high end headphone like susvara. Obviously different but still would be a cool comparison
My Martin Logan motion 60xt with m Cambridge CXA81 integrated amp sometimes produce instruments from behind me.
fantastic looking
I missed this video so I'm not FIRST but really I'm 145th. I'll take it.
Hey Jay long time admirer of you channel. Bought the Vincent 237 mk2… love it. Bought the Buchardt s400 mk2. Love them. But…. Always looking for upgrade. Looking at Tad me1, Sonos Fabar electa amateur iii
Guardneri series. Any thoughts to an upgrade? 10k-20k. Thanks
you said same about the other coffee...I mean Totem element metal speakers😂
Are they WORTH their asking price?
Hey Jay, more TEKTON’s please!!!!
What speaker wire??
Jay, I really enjoyed this review. The TAD stand mount is now on my short list to audition. Btw, may I ask you to name the speaker wire lifters seen in your YT vid? Cheers.
Custom made for cheap. I have a video on it
I saw vincent audio on your cabinet haha. Review it pls
Focal also used it on their K2 drivers and I'm sure other models.
Even some old rca boombox speakers were made of kevlar
How does any company justify the price of those high end speakers when they are not at top notch level per Danny gr. I would expect ll speakers o have it best frequency at the time I purchase them
Any thoughts on how they compare head on with magico A1?
Very very very different sounds. Magico is brighter and more contrasting in a way different way. Different tone too. More different than similar
So no comparision to your personal reference and beloved Sonus faber Electa Amator?
Video would have been too long and it was already longer than I expected. But I can answer you here.
TAD is hands down a better performing speaker. More transparent, neutral, accurate, more full range but Sonus faber has a more jazzy tone, smooth and beautiful midrange
Jay, what is that wooden bench you have your amp on?
I forget the brand but it’s just a normal bench from a high end furniture brand. Many alike out there. It’s not a hifi brand
