Sorry I don't agree with that last shop, as what they want is to get you in the shop and then make you an offer maybe low as most will take it because your there.. I would tell them that I have been calling and getting offers with no problems, so stay away from that shop!
Today i had a look around the Birmingham ones. They seem to be offering around £365. I paid £390 last year for my full 1860. They sell at reasonable prices too.
It will change depending on the price. I know here in the U.S. generally if you go to a reputable place they will pay spot or above spot for things like an AGE.
A local Pawnbroker very near retirement who we ( my friend and I ) was candid about the prices.. “I buy 10% under spot; I sell 10% over spot”… So you may be put off by the “spread” but this is normal to an average retailer.. In the times of trouble ( inflation) The demand for Sovereigns and the like will be so much that the margin will shrink ( just like a stock) High volumes, low margins!. So take the 10% over on the chin- You will not regret it ever
No, the reverse. In general the older the coin, the fewer that are left. But then condition is a factor as old sovereigns may have been in circulation and the wear does reduce the value. Until recently most of the value was the actual gold and not the coin.
@@thegoldstandard721 How is that a reason for asking me that question? It seems to have no connection to your question whatsoever. Why are you unwilling to explain why you are playing Christmas music in this video? If there is an obvious reason for the choice of music, I cannot see it.
@@harryzero1566 hello.....really really stupid question, but here it is. What are these ahops actually going to do with the gold if not melt it down?...is it just try and sell it second hand?
@@StruanRobertson29mainly the gold that gets melted is the stuff they cannot sell as it is. I know that seems obvious, but that's my point, if you sell a proof or nice bullion coin at spot value to a retailer they will sell it according to its desirability. They tend not to even offer back some of the extra value that you paid for it. The satisfaction the seller might get, is when they walk away, leaving the retailer wistfully disappointed.

That £225 would be retail for a half sovereign.
Interesting. As a coin collector it makes my ears bleed when I hear anybody say they're going to melt down a sovereign.
£225 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That is actually ludacris. About 60% of spot. I thought CC price was low at £340. Good advice from the guy saying take £390.

should have called out that £225 offer & told her thats ridiculous
I'm surprised cash converters offered a close top offer.
A useful video as most people concentrate on acquisition rather than disposal. The video will hopefully prove people to consider disposal more.
Just go to a reputable bullion dealer. Any sovereign should be IRO £350 to £370.
Why want to weigh the soverign...I thought all soverigns were the same weight??
Yep 😂 7.98g (7.32g pure gold) my 1860 still weighs 7.98g

u know how much is half sovereign year 1913 as of today? mine is george V
Why is the year import? . . . . Does gold go off the older it gets?

I do have 1967 gold coin same as this… how to sell this ?
Atkinsons online
@@thegoldstandard721think u shoukd try this today think u will be shocked n I mean real shocked .
Lol, maybe she watches your channel 🤣
Possible lol, I make sure to call different ones every time so I knew I had never called her before 😂
This was a great video. Thankyou.
Try selling online as they usually offer around 97% of spot 🎉
I have a question I don't like the new sovereigns they look like copper is gold wedding rings a better investment?
Any gold you can get as close to spot price as possible is a good investment. Gold sovereigns are the best value bullion coins
Did the Croydon dealer say they were going to send them away to be melted (at 7.18)? Is this permissable?
Ring some shops in jewellery quarter... 450 each...
2%bellow spot thats what i find. Thats great if you bought them years ago.
waste of time these offer scrap price,,,,,, just go to a bullion dealer like Chards in blackpool. no scrap price there.
Sovereigns do Not weigh an ounce ! Troy or otherwise .

they are going to melt them?! she is clueless
When anyone starts talking about melt value I get my grips out ready to crush my piece of gold, looking at their reaction is priceless.
