- MUST KNOW 1st CHORD - ✅ FREE Crash Course for Beginners: www.laurenbatemanguitar.com/cr... - This is the first chord you MUST learn on guitar because it is the gateway to many other beginner guitar chords. The best part about this chord is that it only requires two fingers. Once you learn this chord, you only need to learn one more chord to play your very first song.
I usually recommend Horse With No Name:

Or Eleanor Rigby to start:
• TWO CHORD SONG! - Elea...

I love how the Em chord is found in many songs: this is the first chord I learned and even though I am 58 with some limitations these lessons have helped me tremendously! I love the way you teach the pivoting of your fingers to form the easy G and C chords, that is a great way for all beginners, young and old, to learn. A well known rock star said recently that it does not require being "gifted" nor "talented" to learn guitar, it takes HARD WORK AND PRACTICE and you will accomplish any goal that you LOVE, so do not let your limitations, body or mind stop you, just stay with it and you will be playing a song before you know it! If I can learn so can YOU !
Thanks for watching!
It was my very first guitar experience and it was awesome! Thank you very much for your lessons!
Very welcome!
Omg I’m just got my guitar and this was so awesome 😭💖💖. I was in another video before this but it was way too fast, your video was perfect. And I love your close up cam. Thanks girly💖💖💖
You are the best teacher 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏🏻
I'm really excited to find you on you tube, you make it so much easier. I'm looking forward to learning to play the guitar. 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you
It would be awesome to actually sit with other guitarists in person. Playing 6 years now, I’ve never hung out with another guitarist!
I’m currently practicing your “sweet Melissa”
Thanks for being a good teacher!
Maybe one day! :D
Thanks!
Thanks Lauren as a retired technical teacher in OZ you are a great teacher, just picked up the guitar again after 20/30 years without playing. Shame your beginners learning course is in US $ but I am sure its good value
Thank you for watching!
I love how simple you explain
Thank you for watching!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Perfect explanation for a starter.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you ao much judith uganda i love you so much
Thank you🙏 ma'am.
Most welcome 😊
Another great lesson from Lauren with clear and precise instructions and visuals and excellent advice for a beginner. Lauren is a wonderful teacher with loads of encouragement if the notes don’t sound correct with explanations to fix them. Hopefully in future lessons some songs that is made up for the circle of fifths to practice would be good. E.g. “Here comes the Sun “or “Hey Joe” by Jimmy Hendrix might work.
Thanks again!
Dear Lauren, imho, good example how to hold the guitar is Bill Wyman on bass in early Rolling Stones :).
Good call!
E minor and A minor best code and easy code and amazing sounds
Thank you for watching!
I like her. I am 61 never been on a guitar, except when a kid. Playing Some On the Water...only the beginning😮
Thanks for watching!
You are a fantastic teacher! Your videos are informative and easy to understand. Playing is much harder but that’s where practice comes in. And I need A LOT! Wishing you all the best.
You're very welcome!
C I think is the prettiest chord
Hi teacher Lauren how are you doing? Can you kindly please do power chords lessons in the next video and show tablature? When do you use power chords necessarily, how often should I use it? Thank you. I’m using Boss Metal ML-2 pedal to do power chords to emulate the original artist key.
I have a lesson! Search Lauren Bateman Power Chords in RUclips.
@@LaurenBateman thank you. Awesome.
Hi Lauren!!
First, thank you for all you do for the guitar-learning community! I am just learning the guitar at age 50, and I am using RUclips and Google in order to save money. Thank you for your free lessons!
Second, I am getting exceedingly frustrated with my third fretting finger! I can barely make it go to the 7th fret, and when I finally can, I end up flattening my first two fingers and deaden the lower strings!! I get so mad that I almost cry! I want to learn this so bad, but I just am having such a hard time. Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.
One suggestion I have is to focus on building finger strength and flexibility through targeted exercises and regular practice. Don't be too hard on yourself, learning guitar is a journey, and progress often comes in small increments. Keep practicing, stay positive, and have fun
@@LaurenBateman thank you for your wonderful “bedside manner.” I am trying to be patient with myself, but I worry I am teaching my fingers incorrectly because that dang ring finger just doesn’t want to land far enough over cleanly, so I am doing the exercises with flat finger pads by the time I try to place that one in the 7th fret. I even try starting in the 7th and go to the 9th. Could I be exercising my fingers wrong? Building bad habits?
🎸✌️
Hello from the U.K.@LaurenBateman I’m struggling moving from the B chord to C, trying to learn Linger by the Cranberries, any advice would be appreciated!!
There is no B chord in that song:

@@LaurenBateman Ooops, so sorry wrong chord name how embarrassing! I meant A to C, I watched another video of the song different to yours. Really appreciate you replying! I’m in my 50s and been learning for a year, you make it so enjoyable. Thank you 🤩
Hi Lauren, is there any easiest way to do the Bm chord? Because this is very difficult for me as beginner. Thank you
Yes, you can play the bottom 3 string or bottom four strings which eliminates the barre.
@@LaurenBateman thank you 🙏
I too am over 55 with ADHD….learning the guitar….dont lash out at her! Just calm mind…and with guitar in hand, work through it…keep your frustration level in check…
Thank you miss lourane for the lessons ,yo helping and transforming me alot cant believee in one week have got alot but still have one question,.
Please is there any other way more easier to play the D chord ,honestly moving from ,Easy G to Em to easy C is easy but going to D is still problem to me.
Is it okay if i use D⁷/⁶ as D if am to play the song of GC and D will that chord work ??
Keep it up! for easy chords, best way is still finger exercise and practice practice! I know you can do it!
@LaurenBateman but thank for your time ❤
Hi Lauren, Can you tell me which is easier for a beginner to learn on, the acoustic guitar or the electric guitar?
It depends...please watch this for reference, ruclips.net/video/zA0DDtZLjUg/видео.html
@@LaurenBateman Thank you!

Teacher ❤😊
Another great lesson. Get your self a coffee.🎸
Rock on!
🙏🎸☯️
Thank you miss lourane but is it okay to remove the tunner after tunning the guitar, then another ,by following the tunner i tried to play the Em cord but on the tunner it cant show it show a different cord ,and even after some times of tunning ,try to play each string they shiw different mixed cords 😢
Yes, it is ok to remove the tuner after tuning the strings.
I have a problem that I need a guitar doctor for. I can make the chord shapes and be doing well while not looking, but then it sounds funny and I look down to see I am playing the chord shape...two or three frets from where I should be. Even the E min I am playing somewhere else.
What do you suggest?
It's a lot of back and forth over and over again. Use your eyes. Do it correctly. Take the eyes off and if something goes off. Put your eyes back on it. Then take them Way again. The muscle memory isn't there yet.
What do you recommend for people with large hands and whose fingers are so fat there's no way to play a middle string without muting an adjacent string? I feel like this is made for a child. My middle two fingers are too big to play one string without touching another...no matter what I do or how I change my wrist position. For instance, when I play the Em chord, my middle finger literally frets both strings. Are there guitars with wider string spacing? I have a Yamaha F325D. Very frustrating
Some people can play this chord with a single finger and that is perfectly fine too!
Even the sound have the feeling that i hear only one cord in my guitar
I am 78 years old trying to learn guitar not really interested in a band but playing along with stereo and phone no bad
Thank you for watching!
First comment 😂
Sorry, being 68 and failing miserably trying to learn to play over 50 years ago, mostly because of undiagnosed ADHD, you give the explanation of each string. Naming the top string and highlighting the bottom string doesn’t make learning any easier?
I’m sorry, I’m just trying to let you know that the diagram is easier to follow if it flows with the presenter rather than the opposite direction. I did recently learn and retain the strings as Edgar Ate Dynamite Good Bye Edgar. Yet the video shows the opposite.
Ha I can't even see the chart
If you’re right handed . You look down on the strings in this configuration
So the top string nearest to your eye is the low E and vice versa. Every one uses this method
3521? What? The chart shows the skinny E string on top. I’d see that if I was right handed playing a left handed guitar, not vise verse. That’s what makes the chart confusing. She has the skinny E string on top and the over sized (is that correct) string on the bottom.
@@larryboston3018yes right handed player ( ie plectrum in right hand ) left hand choosing strings . Ok
Guitar with your belly touching back of the guitar.
Look down at the strings - string nearest your eyes is low ( thick ) E string. This is the bottom ok move your plectrum away from you and play A then D etc all the way to thin E .everyone shows it like this . They are not going to change just for you
