Junkrat main here. Started him because I loved his character. Stuck with him because of his play style and how fun he is. I don't want him to get a buff. I think he's perfect how he is. It's the meta that needs to shift a bit for him to be more viable.
GiRTheDuck Prehaps a buff to his ultimate, faster or quieter so it doesn't just get shot down. Maybe even remove the ability to destroy it and a buff to the damage it does, 50%?
I like the adding 25 HP to it. Takes two shots to kill from the more squishy characters. If you remove the ability to destroy it, a damage buff would be too much. As is it can 1 shot anything but a Roadhog consistently. It does 600 dmg on the ground and between 580 and 598 dmg in the air.
RooksAndReshiram people complain because they don't know how to play the strongest defense hero in the game because " he's too hard and not consistent enough in damage output waaaa!"
I dont flame Junkrats or any hero the people play. The most importend thing is that if the junkrat sees he gets counterd (goes for any hero) to much switch!
well, i absolutly love tracer and theres nothing worse than getting killed by a randomly bouncing junkrat projectile when, in the killcam, the junkrat had clearly no idea where I was. Dont get me wrong, i love junkrats design in general (looks, charakter, soundeffects and most parts of his skillset) and i get the idea of "supressing fire" or spamming an area, but im getting mad pretty easily after being hit by one of those random grenades which actually get me one-hit on tracer. there will always be this "random" element with junk which ProLikeChro talked about in the vid and even if this design is intentional, i cant enjoy playing against him since there will always be so much random collateral damage. but thats just my subjective opinion, i would never tell ppl to stop playing junk or whatever :)
Although I'm not a Junkrat main, I think it's a balanced class, and one of my friends is a Junkrat main. So I guess I'm a Junkrat sympatizer, so I'll show my support here.
"If you think about that in life, how would you ever get good at anything if run away as soon as something is difficult", best line in the video, pure wisdom.
As a Junkrat main that plays similarly to how this guy does, YES he is underrated. What he said about the SR not being an indication of actual skill kinda hits home. I don't play competitive but I know I put work in when I'm in QP as Junkrat.
Love you guys man! I main JunkRat finally someone plays JR and I always seem to carry a game until late game in kills and damage then usually people catch back up. I totally agree about traps. One thing people need to understand is that going up a stair well if you place the trap on the lip of the path or just around corners so people turn the corner and hit it. Also, it's true learning to bounce grenades off of surfaces to deny or hit enemies. Again too you can use his ultimate to strike fear into the enemy make them scurry around like cowards when they hear it and his passive is great to get a bit of revenge sort of. Great Video guys!
You should watch the 30 minutes of dueling Kolorbastion and Chro do on Chro's RUclips channel. Basically it's just then dueling it out and it's amazing and hilarious because Chro really is amazing at listening and planning ahead like he does.
When aiming his primary i just sorta imagine a curved line from the gun, kinda like a grenade perk in titanfall, except its up to you to visualize and work with the gun itself, by understanding the curvature and the velocity you become a force to be reckoned with
Big thanks for that video and for ProlikeChro! Junkrat was the hero, i liked picking since my first games and i still love him! This was the best junkrat footage i ever saw and tips and philosophie behind that were great!

Hey Overwatch Central, I just want to say thank you for this series. I learned more about each hero and these pro tips and expert knowledge from the featured people are very helpful. Thank you! :)
Well he's total shit if you're not good (not even bad, just not good) so it's very possible a lot of people who talk shit have played him, but just shit the bed and assume everyone else does too lol

Thanks loads for this in-depth master guide of Junkrat. A lot of the stuff mentioned, i already knew, but there are a few great tips in here, especially for newer players, that you just need to know. With the new patch coming up and junkrats not being able to blow themselves up with their own grenades, will make him a lot more viable.
Agreed on Anubis defense, there's a lot of high ground to exploit, some tight chokes, and some big open areas for airplay. Chro's videos have definitely upped my Junkrat game.
Great tips, man! Unfortunately I don't play Junkrat very often, so I can't really put these to use :/ Could you maybe do a video like this on McCree or a Widowmaker next? :D
The Overwatchers Community if you're looking for mccree then just search taimou or J3sus or Sure four montages. Widow just search Kephrii, and watch his streams.
After having a day full of constant losses and dropping a decent amount of SR, what Chro said about throwing out SR altogether and just playing is exactly what I needed to hear, so thanks for the awesome tips for Junkrat, but also for the great advice about playing the game in general.
Mainly because bad junkrats can be countered really easily by heroes like soldier, tracer and genji which makes his overall viability quite low. Besides that, the pro-community picks are seen as thé way to go by many people, it just happens that there are very few junkrat players in that area. All in all it is quite sad because as ProLikeChro said, our favorite maniac clown has a unique skillset which can make him very very dangerous in certain situations. ;)
Because he kills me without even aiming, and it's horrible. Everyone seems to think people hate junkrat because he's bad, but it's because he's good. Like Hanzo. Spam arrows, spam grenades, and suddenly your supports are all dead. Worst feeling ever when my team starts a push and I step on a grenade that had no right to be behind my whole team. I don't actually get why people hate him. He's a really powerful hero. I just don't like him cuz of the whole fire and forget free kills.
as a tracer main, i used to think that too, but try playing the junk, and you'll see that sure, some kills are accidental, but most kills are very, very deliberate. Just look at one of Chro's games, and you see the strategy, positioning, and thought that goes into a good junkrat's gameplay. Otherwise, shitty junkrats just spam rein shields all day. Also, his inability to aim is his biggest weakness, and the way you mitigate that risk is what makes him such an interesting character to play. Also, the trap, c4 combo usually means junk doesn't have his c4 to protect himself while he's doing that, so he is extremely vulnerable if he commits his entire kit to that trap, c4 combo.
Listening to this makes me want to main Junkrat again. He was my favorite hero and listening to this shows me how many things i've forgotten like positioning and how some people move around.
Just picked up OW a few days ago. I don't know why but, to me, Junkrat just feels right. I used many heros before settling on JR as my main. I like the chaos he brings to each match and, if used correctly, he can really turn the tide of a match. I can hold a lane to myself with this guy. For a little bit anyways. My friend grabs Roadhog and I grab JR and cause tons of mayhem. It's glorious.
Andrés del Campo Im not a " pro " but i do find myself being a really good Zenyatta player circeling around high diamond and low masters so here is my tips. 1. Be in the team chat and comunicate. Zenyatta is a exelent team leader because of his discord orbs. Always call out wich enemy is discorded to your team. 2. Alltough the harmony orb dosent heal that much it still is a big part of Zenyattas kit. Put it on aggresive allies like Tracer, Genji, Winston and DVA most of the time. 3. Remember as Zenyatta you have one of the best DENIE ultimates in the game. The enemy uses a Graviton? Denied, Dragon blade? Denied. Tac Visor? You guessed it, DENIED. I have great play of the game clip on my channel to show Zenyattas ults power if you like.
Tristan kaas Muselk is good, an I really like his videos, but for tips & tricks, I don't really think he's a great choice. He's great at the game, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure about his actual game sense... wouldn't mind if they brought him in and he shuts me uo though, I'm a huge fan of his
I only played ranked a few times at the very end of s3 and I haven't played OW long but I've really gotten hooked on playing Junkrat - really not the type of hero I usually go for or would expect to enjoy but he's just really fun to play and I feel like I'm learning a lot about how other players think and play from playing him. He seems to be really good at exploiting mistakes other people make - which I'm sure is fewer and fewer the higher in the ranks you get, but at lower levels and in QP at least it's easy to take advantage of people getting sloppy. And he's SO good for getting to those hard-to-reach places - scaring off snipers and making them change position if not outright killing them, without having to even get up there, and getting behind shields and Mei walls and other things where people think they're safe. Also taking out turrets/Bastions in some situations. Learned a lot watching the gameplay in the video - I have been using the concussion mine for mobility more and more but I saw some new cool ways to use it in the video that I gotta try (getting past the choke in Volskaya with it = definitely trying!). Mostly though I use it for a quick kill along with a grenade or two and the trap if it's a big target. I've been struggling with the Riptire though trying to get those big POTG multikills and I actually have been doing what ProLikeChro suggests here and going for the healers, tanks, single targets that need to be taken out and it can really turn a fight in your team's favor. Glad to see I was on the right track there!
shoot good. if you miss shoot better next time. widow makers kit is so basic I don't know if there's really much to say. get up high don't miss an you'll be fine. the ult is self explanatory.
Just look up genji guide or watch his stream. Seagull talks to his stream after every death or mistake of what he did wrong he's very analytic just watch him
The quote I feel that people should take as food for thought comes at 7:50 It's how I feel about people who say they main Soldier: 76, Roadhog, or Ana who don't got much time put in on them and act like they're good at the game because of how strong those three are. In my personal opinion, I kind of want to go back to when 76 didn't have such insane damage or forward when his damage is either nerfed or every other DPS characters gets a buff to there damage.
spot on, that trap is great when you figure out a tracer likes using a certain route to harass your team. especially on ctf. they never check their footing, so you use it against them. the part about midrange is spot on too.
I'm a brand new player (and I mean "just got it yesterday and have only been able to play for a few hours so far" new), and this is really helpful since Junkrat is the character I plan to main.
8:22 I know Chro knows what he is talking about but I want to say my opinion on Junkrat's counters. His all-time counter will be Pharah. The others are situational. You need a good view of the battlefield as Widow and stay the hell away from that Junkrat, Genji can be trapped and his reflect can be baited out then follow up with a mine, Roadhog is *extremely* situational as a Junkrat counter since it all depends on your skill, the Junkrat's skill/knowledge, and your HP. If it's 400-350, you have a slight margin of winning a 1v1. 349 and below is a guaranteed loss because the Junkrat should be jumping around like a maniac and stay away from mid range and go for that sweet spot in which both Hog's Primary fire and Secondary fire is not very effective. 401 and above is a guaranteed win for the Hog if you land your shots and/or hook.
AS Garvin He can't exactly use voice chat. It's nothing but flaming and hate. he also relies heavily on sound cues and footsteps that he can't afford to miss.
+AS Garvin That too is understandable, but when it comes to the competitive community, the bad outweighs the good. I get flamed constantly for playing Winston, I can't imagine what he goes through being so off-meta
He goes through a lot you can just tell. I main junkrat and I was going to use him for my game to get into the gold rank but I decided to use Lucio instead because as SOON as I clicked Junkrat people started yelling at me. "WHY JUNKRAT" "It's gold of COURSE you're going to have all the Junkrat mains" "SWITCH" that was all at the same time. In Gold rank. That's why he doesn't communicate.
i main junk and this video is first time i feel someone got junk.. after some time you just feel him, and once you feel him.. positioning and knowing at what range to play based on every situation is the key to success , but i can understand for someone that hates junk to disconsider him a lot.. i love junk and there will never be another hero to take his place in my heart
It was a bad analogy, however it is true. Meta babies refuse to accept anything other than what they "know" works. Which is what they see in the top level play.
One question I'd like to see regularly added to these kind of videos is what they'd like from their team mates. When your team doesn't know how to play with your hero, that can make your hero and play look bad. With "niche" heroes I feel like the hate keeps people from learning how to coordinate with them. Imagine if no one knew how to stand behind a rein shield, or fall back to healers in cover, etc.. While using your tanks for cover and making it easy for your healers to do their job in the back line are broad concepts, I feel like "niche" heroes would run a lot better if others were more cognizant of opportunities to work together with how they're played.
Why are you blaming your teamates? I have won several games with throwers or AFKs. Heck I had a game where a guy was mad I lobbed pipes into Zarya's Ult, as Junkrat, before he could get back from his latest death to use his dragonblade. He went Rein and just fed the enemy team ult charge. We still won because we all kept a level head and played around the problem. Also Junkrat is not the problem. Worrying about SR and thinking everything has to go exactly like pro games is the problem.
porkersthewonderdog I always was kinda baffled by people constantly wanting to play the pro metas. Are you a pro? No? Then why do you think would that work for you? Asked these more than once, person bitching went full tilt every time. Its as if people think that by just playing the pro meta it suddenly makes them pro level.
I main Junkrat (amongst other heroes as well) but he's great to make work on any situation. Double mine jumping is an amazing skill to practice and when u nail it, it's so useful. He's way underrated imo.
lmao who tf are you first of all, and everybody loses games. It takes more than one person to win a game and it takes more than one person to lose a game unless you have a blatant thrower. If chro was really that bad and easy to counter he wouldn't be grandmaster.
I've always appreciated Junkrat. I've played him consistently ever since the open beta and I'm planning on playing him in comp a lot more next season. He's the most fun hero in the game for me because he's so chaotic and powerful.
Thanks for the tips guys! I always find that playing as Junkrat I can be behind the scenes and contribute to the team, but if there are no tanks or support and we're getting pushed back it can be tricky to create an opening for your team. (especially a team thats only interested in 6 kills and potg...). I know we've lost the match when that happens... it's always in Anubis as well!
Junkrat main here. He's a great hero. If you play him as crazy as he sounds but remained focus on the job in hand he can destroy front line pushes. Take the weirdest route use the strangest thing to bounce stuff off, just harass. When this new patch arrives to removes his own explosives damage I can see him in dive comps for Aggressive plays and defence against dive comps.
I'm so glad chro is getting some attention and explanation on how junkrat isn't just spam. He is one of the most intelligent players I have ever heard and I hope more people listen to his advice and he also does player reviews.
There is one way to get more life to junkrats tire - make pick up torbjorns armour ,go through your teams teleporter- Symetras buff could be used on tires to -It could stick to your Rein Hammer and deleyexplode when he hits someone or Tracer could carry the tire if she picked it up. there is options not only obvious - give more health....
Junkrat is such underappreciated hero. Glad he is getting some love.

Does anyone know whether Nano, Discord and Mercy affect the damage it does?
Nano and Mercy no, Discord yes. Not that it matters unless the target has a Sound Barrier.
The tire almost does no noise while in the air so it can be very quiet if you constantly jump with it.
Junkrat is one of the most fun heroes in the game. If you think smart when using him you can 1v2 people and destroy the enemy team.
I don't play junkrat because he because he says "Were gonna win! We're gonna win!" And then we lose
Lol
Because he because he says? Wtf dude

thx for the hint m8 :)
jazuja what about him do you hate? Do you think he's bad, or that he requires no skill?

As a filthy junkrat main, I agree completely, dying to junkrat is almost never your fault, and that makes him very annoying to play against
i first saw this dude in a game yesterday and he was fucking destroying, im so glad i recognized the name and stumbled upon this.
So he is an ex-tf2 player who quotes Sun Tzu
Reddylan H maybe more of a soldier than demoman
I was gonna say that. He is like a Demo/Solly love child.
The thing his, he was a demo main but I'm fairly sure he still had more than 100 hours on soldier which is kind of funny.

Why all the junkrat hate
because people are jerking off to their golden tracer guns
Mainly because bad junkrats can be countered really easily by heroes like soldier, tracer and genji which makes his overall viability quite low. 10:20 man as a sombra player i can say i hate junkrat for exactly that reason
I love that Chro always talks about Junkrat being a "Class" while we are used to say "Heroes" :D
Maxime de la Fouchardière the tf2 has left a mark, I love demo tho.
I'd like to see a Masters Mei guide.
loved watching Junkrat get around the map, great tips.
as a tracer player traps are very useful against tracer because 99% of the time i die
Oolan - Overwatch lol just know where he's at and look for traps in doorway same with roadhog just wait till he uses hook
Oolan - Overwatch
If you wanna live, look for the teeth.
Listening to this makes me want to main Junkrat again. He was my favorite hero and listening to this shows me how many things i've forgotten like positioning and how some people move around.
I'm a master Junkrat. You should have invited me. I'm on my first placement match.
Tristan kaas just saying there is a reason it's “pro like chro“
Ensigma S lol
Suuuuure
Ensigma 10 minutes for 1 bot?
Dank Seid so am i
Just picked up OW a few days ago.
Zenyatta would be cool, not really sure of any pro Zenyatta players though...
Andrés del Campo they could get Custa in for Zenyatta he's extremely good at him and I believe he plays professionally for fnatic.
Hey Gunslade, yeah, those are some pretty good pointers for Zen, gonna try using them more often, I love Zen!
Tristan kaas Muselk is good, an I really like his videos, but for tips & tricks, I don't really think he's a great choice. He's great at the game, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure about his actual game sense... wouldn't mind if they brought him in and he shuts me uo though, I'm a huge fan of his
Adam Yukiho oh yeah, I know Custa, he'd be a good one... I'm pretty sure Chipshajen plays a mean Zen as well
It is nice to know that you actually listen to your audience (unlike other channels.)
Who was asking for junkrat
LKeezy300 I think people were asking for Off-Meta Masters in general. Chro Judy happens to be the most reachable
hanzo or genji with seagull. even though i suppose he's not very easy to get on the show
Knallen they already did hanzo
I would like to watch Master Widowmaker guide
ArkathorBot Yeah, with Kephrii.
shoot good. if you miss shoot better next time. widow makers kit is so basic I don't know if there's really much to say. get up high don't miss an you'll be fine. the ult is self explanatory.
As a bronze Junkrat main, I was really glad to see this video! It really helps!
Master Zen with Muselk
Tom T Dragon he's shit compared to uNKOE and i hope you're being sarcastic
Best guide so far due to how eloquent and insightful Chro is.
Advanced guide genji
Gamingdroid44 starring A_Seagull :D
or shadowburn
Shadowburn
Just look up genji guide or watch his stream. Seagull talks to his stream after every death or mistake of what he did wrong he's very analytic just watch him
Shadder2K will say exactly 5 words and go again.
The quote I feel that people should take as food for thought comes at 7:50
It's how I feel about people who say they main Soldier: 76, Roadhog, or Ana who don't got much time put in on them and act like they're good at the game because of how strong those three are. In my personal opinion, I kind of want to go back to when 76 didn't have such insane damage or forward when his damage is either nerfed or every other DPS characters gets a buff to there damage.
Miro please!// or a high lvl winston please :p
Daaammmnn they've done winston already
Daaammmnn yea I would love to see a Korean try to explain that
oh, whoops i guess i gotta go find it :p
Levi Irwin ooh ohh winton is veri goot I miro
Oh wow I did not expect to see a junkrat video anytime soon but this video was awesome! Great info. Definitely gonna check out his channels.
do master bastion with brad
Nah, with Kolorblind. Best Bastion in his region/world (idk which.(#)
Dragonman764 Brad is fun and topical, but he's not the best. Kolorblind has made more strides with Bastion than anyone I've seen.
Dragonman764 also Zen with Muselk, Widow with McCreamy, Mercy with Oasis
Tom T Dragon Muselk: sellout, terrible player who got boosted: mccreamy little bitch who wants to be kephrii, and Oasis? Actually a good player.
Her Dps account is in platinum
spot on, that trap is great when you figure out a tracer likes using a certain route to harass your team. especially on ctf. they never check their footing, so you use it against them. the part about midrange is spot on too.
remote mine should be 5-6 cooldown is what i think he need
Chro is doing gods work on his personal yt channel
Seagul genji
Andrew Ward NO! SHADOWBURN!
Isaac McManus or shadder2k
Isaac McManus that'd be nice too
Seagull is more articulate and eloquent than shadder and shadowburn, so I think Seagull would be better suited as an interviewee than the two others.
I'm a brand new player (and I mean "just got it yesterday and have only been able to play for a few hours so far" new), and this is really helpful since Junkrat is the character I plan to main.
WTF i thought deadeye was the worst ultimate in the game...ITS HIGH NOON
*everyone hides*
This guy is the most entertaining Overwatch youtuber Chro is an absolute beast!
do doomfist please no one loves him people always pick reinhardt over him :(
Do you even play Overwatch?
LunchBox is this supposed to be a joke I can't tell
oh wait what day is this ..... oh no JEFF we got busted go back to the machine
8:22
I know Chro knows what he is talking about but I want to say my opinion on Junkrat's counters.
I've been a game with him before. He never communicated, and didn't seem to care a whole lot about winning. Not a team player
AS Garvin
He can't exactly use voice chat. It's nothing but flaming and hate. he also relies heavily on sound cues and footsteps that he can't afford to miss.
That's understandable, but we didn't have any intentions of flaming. We were trying to coordinate when we were going in and what ults to use.
+AS Garvin
That too is understandable, but when it comes to the competitive community, the bad outweighs the good.
THIS is what I waiting for. Thanks Ryan and Chro!
Huh... this guy is pretty smart. Most Junkrat mains love to watch Sesame Street and laugh when they fart in the bathtub.
Archibald VonFookFace junkrat main here, I do most of the team damage instead of watching sesame street and farting in a bath tub.. :3
i main junk and this video is first time i feel someone got junk.. after some time you just feel him, and once you feel him.. positioning and knowing at what range to play based on every situation is the key to success , but i can understand for someone that hates junk to disconsider him a lot.. i love junk and there will never be another hero to take his place in my heart
... When stocks are low people buy more... when they are high, then people sell the stocks... bad analgy
Analogy
I hate Junkrat. Literally my least liked hero. Cost me about 300 sr from throwers on junkrat.
did you watch the video? :)
hate the throwers but not junkrat
Sure
I main Junkrat (amongst other heroes as well) but he's great to make work on any situation. Double mine jumping is an amazing skill to practice and when u nail it, it's so useful. He's way underrated imo.
This guy literally said he won't switch if countered. Top 500 or not, I 110% hope to never play on a team with this guy.
R/K Evolution he is probably a better dps than you will ever be tho.
That's like asking shadder2k to switch off of Genji because enemy team has a winston. Chro gets more value out of junkrat than he can on other heroes.
Tyler Chewl i agree
You wont have to worry about that because you'll never get into top 500 with that bitch ass thinking.
lmao who tf are you first of all, and everybody loses games.
Dunno why but when he kept saying class instead of hero it bothered me.
Labrintyhium
He's used to TF2, I believe. Like me.
Labrintyhium
He's used to TF2, I believe. Like me.
Thanks for the tips guys!
I always find that playing as Junkrat I can be behind the scenes and contribute to the team, but if there are no tanks or support and we're getting pushed back it can be tricky to create an opening for your team. (especially a team thats only interested in 6 kills and potg...).
I know we've lost the match when that happens... it's always in Anubis as well!
tip: dont pick him
Mightykami go away.
Mightykami stop being a meta baby
best interview so far, great guest.
I have been waiting too long for this!
