I’ve had a Sony in my bike now for a yr and a half. When it’s dry, it works like a charm, as soon as I get caught in the rain or wash my bike it shorts out. It DOES NOT LIKE TO GET WET. Being a bike rider, sometimes it’s unavoidable to ride in the rain. I’m now looking at a sound stream that is waterproof. Love the stereo but it was made for a car and not a vehicle that can get caught in the weather.
Solid points! Yep, we definitely recommend the Sony for fair-weather riders or those that live in a more dry climate. If you're looking for a marine rated head unit try either of these: Soundstream HDHU.14: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/soundstream-reserve-harley-davidson-head-unit-2014 OR Soundstream HDHU.14si: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/soundstream-reserve-harley-davidson-head-unit-hdhu-14si-2014-harley-davidson
I just found where this radio will not power up the Boom external amp installed on my 2014 Limited. That being said, I've ordered the radio anyway because of the internal 400W amp in the radio. Can't wait to get the radio installed and up and running! Great video.
Yep, that's absolutely correct. The Sony 7000 bundle is not compatible with Harley Boom! amplifiers. There is a brand new head unit out that is compatible and you can check it out here: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/soundstream-reserve-harley-davidson-head-unit-hdhu-14si-2014-harley-davidson
How do y’all only have 42 subscribers!?! Awesome video and I will be ordering my new radio from y’all next paycheck! It’s frustrating that Harley doesn’t support Appleplay for the older GT6.5 radios :(
They only have that many subscribers because they are a "new" company that had to start over after they took money from a ton of people, never delivered the product, and closed up shop when they were operating as Fathead Cycles. Buyer beware, as they say.......
Excellent vid. Thanks. Now with the XAV 7000 being installed in a lot of dressers are you hearing about any water damage issues? I want to seal mine, but I'm worried about overheating it. Excellent vid. Thanks.
After jumping though hoops to install this into my best friends 2006 Electra Glide Ultra Classic with the very poorly manufatured Metra double din inner dash kit ... The Radio having many glitches It finaly failed after the first time out in the rain heading to Sturgis 2022 so now he's ridding back to Florida without tunes. The entire experience with Metra customer service was a bust! they never addressed any of are concerns about the fitment isues so I dont recomend going this route if you have a older bike. As far as the Sony we did contack them and they told us that the radio IS NOT waterproof and they were right! the screen malfuntion and screen became water logged and the radio failed just out of warranty when it encountered the first rain on the road. The factory radio lasted in full working condition till the day I removed it for this install. When the bike gets back we will have to find a replacement for it.
Sorry to hear about your issues! We've had excellent luck installing the Metra inner fairing. There's an easy trick to installing it that results in a snug fit every single time. The bundle you're referring to is this one: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/sony-xav-ax7000-metra-inner-fairing-bundle-1998-2013-harley-davidson
Does this allow for the use of a CB radio like the HD Boom Box. I am guessing not but I hope so. One of the best functions of my boom box is that I can communicate with other bikes while on the road. Sure I can call them and talk via phone but the CB is a quick communication device that allows for fast connectivity and instant response for users.
I understand the video was edited, what is time frame start to finish, for the install. I just received the new head unit from you guys and anxious to get it installed.
Unfortunately the Sony head unit will not work with your upgraded Harley audio system, but this head unit will: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/soundstream-reserve-harley-davidson-head-unit-hdhu-14si-2014-harley-davidson
I have a currently have a 2019 street glide, it has a 4.3 boom radio head unit (the pre navigation model) I have the Rockford fosgate stage 2 setup with the speakers and amplifier (the Harley Rockford amp that mounts in the bag) I would love to upgrade the head unit. Can I install this Sony head unit and still use the Rockford stuff?
Yes, you absolutely can! Our Sony bundle works flawlessly with the Rockford set up: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/sony-7000-plug-play-kit-2014-harley-davidson-touring
Unfortunately it does not, but this head unit will work: notecycles.com/collections/harley-davidson-head-unit-kits/products/soundstream-reserve-harley-davidson-head-unit-hdhu-14si-2014-harley-davidson
I bought a 2018 road glide special with this unit installed in it. Every time I try to connect my phone to use auto android it says USB 1 not connected, USB 2 not connected. the UI doesn't have the android auto icon on it. Is this a common issue or something I may be doing wrong? thanks
Thanks for your question. Do you have Android Auto downloaded on your phone? Also, you have to use a cable just like the one that came with your phone to connect to the USB in your Harley’s cubby. It cannot be an aftermarket cable purchased from Amazon or the grocery store. If all those checkout, it’s always possible the USB came loose from the back of the radio.

Sony definitely has better sound quality, but your concerns are real. They have a cover for this stereo that keeps direct rain, not humidity.

What about trouble shooting if forward controls don't connect?

Would I have to upgrade the charging system?

Sorry, just watched again and you said an hour. Thanks!!
Sorry for the delay responding! Yes, about an hour is correct!
