great job guys, and it looks like they got another job just across the street, man do i miss those days, we would pour driveways, sidewalks and 7 out of 10 times the neighbors would ask for a quote and boom! finish one job, walk on over to the next one, those days are long gone here in southern california
this video just now got me realizing you could really make ART with concrete. just imagine if you'd do this in a small mold, and then start making little patterns in it. that would make for a gorgeous foundation for your outhouse projects.
awesome video. awesome job.
***** stamped concrete
Damn, that broom finish looked sweeeeeeet!!! Good job guys. Now I can explain to my cousin tomorrow, exactly what I did wrong to fuck up his slab. I got it now!
this was very relaxing.

doing my first concrete with a contractor today as an helper, I never done it before and this video was GREAT help ty
my dad was a concrete finisher his whole life and this video makes it look like anyone can do it but this is a very hard profession and as like everything else watching guys that know what their doing they make it look like just anyone can jump in and do it
I think you're exceptional, I enjoy what's you're doing here
Top notch work! Most contractors on youtube are hacks but you guys clearly know what your are doing!
Great job guys. That final edging gives the driveway a classy picture-frame look.
Because the earth tends to move here in California, I had brick strips down and across the middle with re-bar in a grid pattern placed before my driveway was poured in four sections back in 2002. I had 4.5 to 6 inches of actual depth. As of 11/4/13, not a single crack [cross my fingers].
This is how we did it but in smaller sections due to the intense heat. Great job!
Done like a pro the first time! Great job!!!
These guys are artists! Well done!
Best technique I've seen for concete yet. Thanks guys!
I've seen pool tables that weren't so smooth! You guys are awesome!

This was oddly satisfying to watch
Concrete is strong under compression but weak under tension. This means it is difficult to break concrete by squeezing it, but it is easy to break by pulling it. When you have a concrete pavement (e.g. path, road, driveway) you are putting a weight on top of it. The concrete flexes under this weight, meaning that it is being compressed vertically (good!) and compressed laterally on the top half (good!) but under lateral tension on the base of the concrete (bad!).
To help strengthen concrete so that it can handle tension we put steel reinforcement inside the concrete. Steel is strong in tension, but it is expensive relative to concrete, so we put in just enough thin steel bars to handle the weight that we expect the concrete to be supporting.
Typically this layer of steel (normally built in a grid shape so that it has tensile strength along both its width and its breadth) sits about 1/3 from the bottom of the concrete. It essentially acts as the bones of the concrete pavement. The problem with steel is that it rusts if it is exposed to water. When steel rusts, it loses tensile strength. When the steel reinforcement in concrete loses tensile strength, your concrete will start cracking on the bottom due to stress. These small cracks will then gradually grow into large cracks that run all through your concrete and you'll need to rebuild the pavement unless you're fine with an uneven, ugly pavement.
To prevent rusting of reinforcement, it is common to raise the reinforcement up off of the ground with small plastic chairs or concrete blocks. This allows the concrete to get below and around the steel and effectively shields the steel from any water around the edge of the pavement. For this reason the reinforcement is normally kept a few inches shorter than the pavement so that there is no steel exposed on the side of the pavements.
In the case in this video, you can see that the mesh is laying directly on the ground, and although they lift it up when they are pouring concrete, it ends up getting pushed down by them stepping on it. It is also impossible to guarantee proper reinforcement of concrete with the "hold it up at one end with my hands whilst you bury it in concrete" technique.
The stupid thing is that chairs are damn cheap, and can significantly lengthen the lifespan of a concrete pavement, especially in places that look as moist as in this video. In many cases concrete crews will avoid chairs because they are annoying to work with, and it is difficult to walk over the mesh when it is raised a few inches up off of the ground. It is surprising to me that a group of guys who put so much care into the aesthetics of their pavements (the guys in the video did a good job here) don't take the extra effort to make a pavement that is structurally sound.
Don't get me started on the messy, uneven foundation they are pouring on!
This video is very helpful. Thanks
Nice job
Good, real good...thanks
You all made that look so easy, great job!
