- The Tissot Antimagnetique watches were the world’s first series of wristwatches with anti-magnetic capabilities (a major innovation at the time!) introduced by the Swiss manufacturer Tissot from the 1930s. These watches were specifically designed to withstand magnetic fields generated by the electric appliances that started populating every household during that time, such as telephones and radios.
Join me in the restoration of a beautiful example from 1945! I hope you enjoy this one :)

I think it’s pretty amazing the amount of engineering and machining that went into making these watches over 70 years ago. All without robotics, CAD, and the knowledge available at everyone’s fingertips on the internet.
Beautiful watch and work. These old watches have lots of style.
The watch is beautiful, but I would suggest some detail-work - there's clearly debris/specks of dirt on the dial and on the seconds hand, starting from 36:18 you can see the seconds hand picking up debris from the edge of the subdial and it sticks to the tip of it... Some gentle touch-up with a swab of Rodico and a blower to clear all the loosely flying dust would help a lot. Other than that...job well done, and it's a beautiful piece! As for the gasket you've taken off of it, that looked like a lead gasket rather than petrified rubber. Lead gaskets were quite common back then.
Thank you for the advice! Well noted for the next one 🙏🏻
And you are correct, it is indeed a lead gasket! Very interesting I’ve never seen one of those before 🤔
@@rescuingwatches I don't know about watches, but in some of the equipment I work it's very common to use indium wire to provide metal to metal seals. It's a lot softer than lead and provides an excellent seal.
maybe the lead gasket also helped contain some of the radium's activity?
@@OtherSarah2doubtful. The amount of radiation from just one watch would be insignificant.
@@tedjustadmitit.1540 but weren't they thinking of protecting the factory workers too as so many were being made at once?
Beautiful watch, great job!
Excellent restoration. I noticed some dirt at the tip of the petite second hand. I am not sure if I am right. But you could have used a blower on the dial before casing the movement. On the whole a superb job.
Tissot is my absolute favorite watch. I’m glad to see one getting some much needed attention.
FANTASTIC JOB !!😁👍
This lovely watch and restoration deserves a little more time and angles showing the finished article, including a wrist shot!
Thank you for the tip! Will include it in the next one 🙏🏻😊

Nice video! Its intresting to see how you working/
Very nice. Enjoy the historical references too.
A great, super interesting, and amazingly shot video! Looking forward to the NEXT ONE!
Thank you very much!! 🙏🏻
This all seams so easy :) On my first movement, I lost a spring and a screw :) (need to order some big magnet to find lost parts). On second I bent some wheels pressing bridge (SU2602 movements, pretty similar to this)... but on third, it looked much easier, I knew every part and what it does, so it was.. great feeling :) Great video, I learned so much!
Trust me, I’ve been there! 😂 Thank you for the kind words! 🙏🏻
Absolutely fascinating, and fantastic commentary! Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you very much! 😁🙏🏻
thank you for caling all the names of the parts. i want to learn. :) i have one tissot ladies watch. i have an old watch from my uncle who died in 1972. it makes the sound you can hear at 26:58 when you wind it up. and very long and very high.
Ets un artista nin!
Vaja feinada i quin resultat! Enhorabona!
Gràcies rei! ❤️
Great job and excellent well explained commentary. Cheers
Thank you! 🙏🏻😁
26:48 this sound is amazing 😍 i loved it ...
Very therapeutic and inspiring, nice pace to the video and a very nice watch.
Thank you for the kind words! 😁🙏🏻
Great, what a detailed restoration!
Thank you! 🙏🏻❤️
Superb restoration & videography!
Thank you very much! 🙏🏻😁
Beautiful watch and work, thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 🙏🏻

EXQUISITE ANTIMAGNETIQUE - SWISS MADE (STEEL-CASED) WATCH, AND BERY NICE TO.
Really nice love your narration.
Absolutely loved your video !
Well filmed,
Your voice is so good.
You explain, show, oil, don't shake like an old alcoholic (which is the bit I relate to :-) )
Lovely.
Thank you.

Thank you very much for the kind words 🙏🏻😁 I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting to see and hear what's been doing 👍
Just awesome!
Great video of a fine restoration of a simple, but beautiful watch: thank you very much.
Tissot has always been a very good watchmaker, particularly if you consider that their watches are really affordable. If you bought a new $ 6000+ IWC (🤮) or Panerai (🤮🤮🤮) watch today, you would find a movement that is maybe partially decorated (IWC, or not at all at Panerai), but not as elegant and valuable as this Tissot one.
Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it. What precautions did you take because of the radium?
I’m glad you like it! 😁
I used an FFP2 mask while working on it, I tried to touch the dial as little as possible and I washed thoroughly everything that was in contact with it after the restoration. They usually say that you should avoid inhaling or ingesting the particles, but radium degrades into radon gas which can also be dangerous!
Yeah, radon is just a bit too scary for me. Although I absolutely love a number of the watches that have radium lume, I just play it safe and focus on watches after the mid 60’s or so.
Very enjoyable video, and a lovely job on that watch, thanks!
Thank you very much! 🙏🏻
Excellent job. Two critiques, first the lighting could be improved. Second @ 36:19 the seconds hand grabs hold of a chunk of debris and proceed to drag it around the dial. I think you should rodico the dial in future then blower to get rid of dirt.
Thanks.
Thank you for the tip and the support! It’s really appreciated 🙏🏻😁
Great restoration work.
Do the pallet fork jewels need no lubrication?
Thank you! 🙏🏻 They do need lubrication with a specific oil. I usually don’t show this because it’s difficult to shot with the microscope, but I’ll give it a try in the next video!
Super master.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Loved the content, fantastic work & loved the info that you gave. Can’t wait to see more content!!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻😁
I don’t know how you masters do it-never ending up with an “extra” screw..
😂 if you end up with an extra screw don't worry it's not needed 😂😂
Great job.. one thing really got me though ... at 36:18 you can see the seconds hand hits some sort of debris and drags it around. I can still see it at the very end. I hope you saw it and took it out or I won't be able to sleep tonight. 🤣
Hahaha thank you! 🙏🏻 I did see the piece of debris and immediately opened the watch to remove it! Unfortunately, it was too late to show it in the video 😪
AWESOME! Keep the videos coming!
Loved the video! Hope there is more to come!!
Thank you! Many more to come! 😁
Just a suggestion, when the lume is fragile I take the hands put them over on the backside take some clear fingernail polish and put it on the lume from back and when it hardens it will hold the lume together
Nice trick! Thank you 🙏🏻😁
I really enjoy your videos. One question. There appears to be a small bit of dirt that the second hand is pushing or pulling (on the last shot). Did you ever remove that? Beautiful watch and I really enjoy you voice over and detailed explanations. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words Garry! And yes, I noticed the small dirt spec while rewatching the video and reopened the watch immediately. Since then I always check multiple times! 😂
Great video 👌
What do you do with your restored watches?
If you sell them, an update, and price would be very interesting 😉
Great video by the way!!
Thank you! 😁🙏🏻
Ciao, excellent job!!!!
Thank you! 🙏🏻😊
Nice Job (:
Lol at the fact that from 36:18, the second hand was dragging a speck of dust along the way :D And basically till the end of the video.
Great job! I would suggest keeping the hour hand level with the top of the hour wheel as that is where it belongs so as not to drag on the dial and leave scratches or stop the movement. Also make sure to use the correct sized gasket. Never stretch it to fit as you are deminishing its ability to seal. Also make sure it is correct in fatness. Too thin and stretched on is not good.... 😊 Did you time it out? The balance seems very out of flat and wobbly. Your oil quantities are great.
That tiny bit of debris on the seconds hand is driving me crazy!
For your piece of mind, I removed it once I realized after rewatching the video! 😂 Unfortunately, it was to late to show it. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
Whoever sold you the watch i think was very greedy in wanting 70/dollars for a watch that dont work and had seventy years of dirt and crap all over it , but you done a great job in giving it life again.
Nice job, they used lead gaskets on older watches. Cheers, Geoff
You are right! I just learned this, lead is quite soft and malleable so it compresses easily and that’s why it was used as gasket material. From what I read it stopped being used due to health concerns. Very interesting! 😁
@@rescuingwatches: yes, used in many applications! Funny that lead gaskets were removed as a health concern before Radium was supplanted with H3! Especially considering the devastation the Radium lume had on the young women that painted dials for the early 1900’s on.
Anyhow, rodico is excellent for picking up the dust on the dial. On enamel dials, once removed, I spritz the dial with lacquer thinner before working on them, and replace with tinted (aged) luminova. I save the rodico and lacquer thinner in a lead container which is periodically cleaned out for safe disposal at the local radiological lab at my university in town.
The small watch syndrome partly a result of WWII in as much as the smaller the watch, the less of a shiny target you watch is. In some cases, military watches were not glow in the dark, but high contrast flat black dials with white numerals to prevent you from ‘illuminating ‘ your position to the enemy.
Cheers
Mind blowing that lead gaskets were removed before Radium was replaced 😦I did not know that! I will talk about the Radium Girls in one of my next videos and what that meant for the industry. Heart breaking what these women went through.
And thank you for all the information! Really appreciated 🙏🏻
Just found your channel and subscribed, your videos are amazing and full of experience i try to film my work on watches but they are not very good as I don’t have any filming experience but I try, lovely work and thanks for sharing it with us. 👏🙏👍😉
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏🏻 If you managed to learn watchmaking I am sure you will get around the filming part very soon! 😁
They used to use lead gaskets as they didnt have the rubber gaskets yet.
Everything you done very well but a tiny peace of dirt is their that is left on seconds hand 36:20 you didn't noticed that but I think that is not a big problem but kind of funny that I observed it btw you done a great job on the watch ⌚ 😅
Good eye! 👏🏻 I did notice it when rewatching the video and removed it since. Unfortunately, it was too late to show it! 😪
Would have been nice if you put the watch on a timegrapher before and after. Maybe next time?
Thanks for the tip! I will add it in the next one 🙏🏻😁
I’ve just discovered your channel and instantly subscribed 😅. Very nice! 👍
Thank you very much! 😊🙏🏻
would love to see before and after - timegrapher :D
I will definetly include it in the next one! Thanks for the tip 🙏🏻
I did not run before the servicing.
Did you regulate to check accuracy. Would love to see that next time. Great job well done.
I did, unfortunately it was not shown as I didn’t want to make the video too long. Will definetly add it for the next one! Thank you for the tip! 🙏🏻😁
Just found your channel, great video! Keep up the fantastic work. You might want to check you cameras colour balance for the next video, looking forward to viewing it. Subscribed.
Glad you liked it and thank you for the heads up! 🙏🏻 I will play with the color balance a bit for the next video 😁
Inspired by wrist watch revival the setup and everything looks the same and the ways you says oops is also funny but you did a great job mate keep going you earned a subscriber
Exactly my thought! Even the membrane case and the vintage canon pinion remover! But I loved the video and also subscribed! Looking forward to seeing further down the line once you make it your own! 🙌
awesome!
Awesome ❤
Thank you very much! 🙏🏻😁
I've had watches with those lead gaskets before. Not sure why they used them. It's like packing in old faucet stems lol
Great work! Only thing i was wondering that the hour hand almost touches/ is way to close to the dial 😮
Thank you! 🙏🏻 You are spot on! That hour hand was too close to the dial and I had to reopen the watch to lift it a bit. Not the first time that happens 😂
@@rescuingwatches I had it a few times too🤣 mostly with a eta 2452
I always keep the dial a bit tilted to the side so i can check it closely. Anyway good content keep it up :)
Is that a lead seal on the case back?
Well spotted! That is indeed a lead seal, apparently common in vintage watches from that time 😁
@@rescuingwatches thinking of the period and available materials and also recognizing the appearance from applications I am familiar with I took a wild ass guess. LOL
is there a spec of dirt on the second hand?
Great channel name and interesting video. Good job.
My only request is to use light color finger cots. The black color absorbs all the light and it makes it difficult to see the watch components.
Thank you.
Glad you liked the video and thank you for the tip! 🙏🏻😊
You got a Tissot 27 for 70 bucks?!?!?😮 You most certainly DID NOT get ripped off 😂
Is the cannon pinion shaft oiled/greased ?
I was crying at the end of this that you didn't blow off that clear dirt/debris on the dial before casing it back up
For your peace of mind, I did open the watch and removed the debris once I saw it! Unfortunately, it was too late to show it in the video 😪 Thank you for watching! 🙏🏻
Yağlamayı büyüteç ile göstermeniz çok etkileyici.
Thank you! 😁🙏🏻
You forgot the oil on the pallet fork tips!😢
I can see a bit of loose dirt going round stuck to the second hand. Right at the end it has moved slightly showing that is is a bit of dirt.
@1:30 it looks like a lead joint.
Excelente trabajo.
Why haven't you removed the dust from the dial? The seconds hand actually catched a blob of dirt and it is pushing it over the dial. You also should have replaced the o-ring over the winding stem tube to seal the winding crown.
Hi! Good points and good eye! 👏🏻
I did not want to blow the dial to remove the dust because I was concerned about inhaling the Radium on the paint or spreading particles over the bench. However, you are correct and I could have used Rodico to remove that dirt blob! I opened the watch and removed it after realizing it, but unfortunately the video was already uploaded. The o-ring of the crown was replaced but unfortunately not showed in the video.
Will take it into account for the next video though! 😁 Thank you for the tips 🙏🏻
nice
Watch out the hands may have radium (radio actif)for lume!
I have a very similar watch which I am selling. I'm really not sure if it's financially viable to get it serviced?
It will depend on where you are at, how much there is to fix and how expensive is the service, so it’s hard for me to tell! I’ve seen these watches selling between 300 and 1500 USD, so your profit after service will also depend on the specific model you have. Hope that helps a bit!
l have like that, but without small dial,
This o-ring looks like a metal crush washer to me. Could it be so?
Yes! 👏🏻 It’s an old gasket made out of lead. Apparently it was quite common to use soft metals for that purpose before rubber gaskets became a thing!
you left that one dust piece under the seconds clock hand
Good eye! 👏🏻 I opened the watch again and took it out when I realized. Unfortunately, it was too late to change the video 😪
ahh that same little speck next to the second hand
I know! 😪 I opened the watch since and removed it. Unfortunately, it was too late when I realized!

Not make to much emphasis in the grime, that's for the regular people with regular jobs is cero, you are magnifying nothingness.
Freaking Indian ascent killing me…
loved the restoration but from what i saw you could have cleaned the face a bit before putting on the hand, look at your sec hand with paint specks 👍🧭
Good point! I avoided touching the dial due to the radioactive material. However, there are safe ways to clean these types of dials and I cleaned it as soon as I saw the dirt spec! Noted for the next one 😁
I can watch this all day long, if you had a geiger counter you would be suprise how quickly and where you can find contamination. But you need a good one "pancake" not "glastube".
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the tip! It could be a nice addition for future videos 😊
