I've heard that theres a handy glitch that you can pull off with the radio, allowing you to summon an NCR ranger at the Sierra Madre. Obviously the ranger themself is useless as usual, but you can kill them, take their cowboy repeater, and the rest of dead money will be much easier thanks to a weapon you were never supposed to be able to use in dead money. Never tried it out myself, but from what I've heard, that might actually be the best possible use for the radio. Not calling in support, but rather cheesing a gun into a restricted area.
The only run I used the radio extensively was my hardcore run, using NCR troops as cannon fodder to get the high-end loot protected by cazadors without risking the real companions.

The Radio has been pretty useful for me. You can have the trooper and the ranger at the same time if you just wait another day, but the trooper always refuses to enter interiors, the Ranger follows me most times, but that’s likely because I try to have both at all times. Secondly, if the Ranger or Trooper dies before they talk to you they keep respawning until they do. The good thing about this is that if you’re in a fight with the legion when you call for back up the Ranger essentially becomes immortal. If you could some how manage to not talk to the Ranger when you summon her at the end of the game she will kill the legate… eventually.
The radio is actually pretty alright with YUP installed. Then again, New Vegas is a hot mess without YUP. I can't imagine playing without it, though the immense jank of unmodded NV (remember, Obsidian only had 18 months to get it out, so NV may as well be an unpolished, less than 1/4th finished tech demo compared to what it could've been) does make these challenge runs a touch more entertaining.

Two fun facts according to the Radio’s wiki: • By the endgame you cna summon a veteran ranger with a sequioa in hand • If you summon a ranger and then go start the OWB DLC, said ranger can come with you to big Mtn due to being a temporary companion. If said vet ranger dies, you cannot call in another one since Big Mountain is very far from NCR terf

Ok as someone who has used the radio a bunch this hurts. The radio is actually incredibly powerful if used right. Get the ranger and soldier killed then take everything out of their inventory then fill it with power armor and good weapons and ammo and stim packs. Hey there's a trick I use to do whenever I started the Dead Money DLC with the help of the NCR Radio, Basically you call for backup right before you enter the door Way to the DLC the soldier actually followed me into the place 😂 but wait it gets better, if you have Max pickpocketing skills you can reverse pickpocket em and place your own weapons and ammo into there inventory and grab it back when you start the DLC plus if they Die there they will be actually able to respawn there, ohh on a side note try it with the lowest rank because the rangers have a Higher Defense against Pickpocketing it seems.
Every time I played New Vegas I was on good terms with NCR, so I always had the radio. How many times it worked? Never. Not a single time it worked. It was always in that bugged unresponsive state.

The NCR Ranger I called using the radio surprised me. I was banking on the hope that she’d get killed in Nipton by the Legion, but she managed, while already being injured and having a crippled leg mind you, to slaughter all the Legion pretty well.
Well Rangers are far more experienced warriors than any NCR soldier out there, besides most Legionnaries you meet on the other side of the Dam are recruits hoping to prove themselves in battle.
One of these days Nerbit will follow the "Can you beat Fallout X with Item Y" intro with the word 'no', and the video will just end. Today is not that day.

@@DonnaPinciot I think having a number set to the internal faction reputation system would make sense, it would mean that the mid game gets significantly easier if you tend to be a good player.
Something like at base acceptance you'd only get 1 Trooper and or 1 Ranger
Rangers would stay the same but at Idolized you'd get a new Option for Advanced Rangers in Riot Gear.
Troopers on the other hand would simply increase in number maxing out at 5.
Since Troopers get worse gear and would likely die horribly if left alone to things like Deathclaws or Cazadores. They would be great for clearing large spaces.
But yeah some way to prevent players from just amassing an army would be needed. But hey if the Radio was fixed and had minor improvements at least you could use it for most of the game instead of what Nerbit had to endure.
I was one who asked for this run. A lot of people consider the radio useless, and I'm delighted to see that proven true.
The one and only time I ever found the radio useful in my games was when I needed to kill a single deathclaw and wasn't high enough level to do it myself.
You fool, look at his recent videos, I have been asking this for like a month now
The only run I used the radio extensively was my hardcore run, using NCR troops as cannon fodder to get the high-end loot protected by cazadors without risking the real companions.
@@BlackOps05 So you basically used them the same way the NCR does anyway? Nice.

Also when he tried to give the ranger the sniper back, it was broken ( as indicated with a value of --.--) and NPCs, like the player, can not use broken weapons
@@Pie_Romancer yeah, good to mention too. Also as far as I know NPCs take weapons from the ground only during fight & may drop weapon when shot if it is on low condition.

@@peterprime2140 no? They don't use both unless you will use it on them using dialoge wheel (stimpacks). They can take food (from containers or just one lying around) and eat it while being in 'relax' mode at some location. The food gives them effects, though. I tested it.
@@kreozello They don't pick up meds but they'll definitely use it if they have them, for example the Legate has unique healing powder that he uses, and if you kill him fast enough you can loot it.

Speaking of buggy items, I had something weird happen to Euclid’s C Finder in a recent playthrough. A few in game days after I got the weapon, the kid who you buy the weapon from showed up with it again, and I figured I might as well buy it again. Then I had 2 space lasers per day. An in game week later, the same kid somehow spawned by the gun runners with a third c-finder. I bought that too, but then all three of them refused to fire off. Instead the targeting lasers would not despawn and continued flashing ominously no matter what weapon I was holding. I decided to trash all of my c finders after that point

Interesting! I have tried the NCR radio a handful of times...and never gotten it to work. Even on a fresh install of New Vegas I always get the message I am out of NCR territqory no matter if I am in Mojave Outpost , New vegas or one of theNCR Camps. Thanks for the video!
First time i got the radio, i was heading vegas by a weird route, through some gecko nest, going stealth
The ranger came and ran directly into the geckos and got totally destroyed, it was an interesting encounter.

@@DeadManSinging1 been playing again recently. Mf really came out to me while I was watching legionaries gun down some locals lol. Took 3 out before dying tho.
You can actually get weapons from the supply drop I got 2 knives and a 10mm pistol

“Can you beat The Legend of The Star quest without Malcom Holmes talking to you?”
Two fun facts according to the Radio’s wiki:
• By the endgame you cna summon a veteran ranger with a sequioa in hand
• If you summon a ranger and then go start the OWB DLC, said ranger can come with you to big Mtn due to being a temporary companion. If said vet ranger dies, you cannot call in another one since Big Mountain is very far from NCR terf
I just recently learned that Emily Ortal, the follower of the apocalypse who asks you to plant a bug in Mr houses network can follow you much like Kowalski or Malcom if you avoid talking to her.
I'd love to see a run where you try to beat the game while being followed by her.

Every time I played New Vegas I was on good terms with NCR, so I always had the radio. How many times it worked? Never. Not a single time it worked. It was always in that bugged unresponsive state.
That ranger is a Costco version of the mysterious stranger/Miss fortune. this time more unpredictable and scary in some way due to them just appearing and quickscoping someone before you even get a chance to turn around and look at the ranger before they vanish (Also, this comment was wrote while I had chip dust on my fingers so I had to resort to my un-dusted fingers.)

The NCR Ranger I called using the radio surprised me. I was banking on the hope that she’d get killed in Nipton by the Legion, but she managed, while already being injured and having a crippled leg mind you, to slaughter all the Legion pretty well.
The Legion in Nipton: *hears Doom music kick in*
The Ranger: "Snipe and tax, until the dam is won!"
Well Rangers are far more experienced warriors than any NCR soldier out there, besides most Legionnaries you meet on the other side of the Dam are recruits hoping to prove themselves in battle.
i wish the legion had something similar, I'd love to be followed by legionaries and not having to wait for Caesar's favor quest to randomly appear

The ranger who gave me my radio wound up in the sulfur cave vault as he appeared while i was going in (to be honest I thought it was scripted that way). His AI made him run into walls until I opened the doors to move through the Vault, at which point he just kept going through as though his AI only registered the sulfur cave exit as a way out. He made it several levels into the Caves before being mauled by a gecko, RIP a brave, stupid soul.
