Something I didn't realise was done to carrots. Those machines are doing so much work - would take a lifetime if done by hand. Excellent video George and very informative without any narration. Thanks for sharing!
Been watching a lot of your videos lately George...most interesting!! Keep up the good work, thank "the legend" for allowing you the time to do this at work.
As a suggestion, at some point, could you do a film on setting the plough for road transport as it's got two wheels and i can't figure out quite how it's done. That's a great film George I've not seen how this is done before even though I knew straw was used for cover from frost. I've followed you and Wes for a couple of years now and you both have very different styles but very good all the same. glad you now do a commentary. I'm looking forward to Wes meeting you later today, should be fun. Just don't make it to short. The amount of videos I've seen of big tractors like a T7 200 with a three furrow plough pisses me off.
Cracking video, although was anyone else hoping for a shot of the Fastrac coming down a row followed by the T7 coming down the row beside it, would've made for a great closing shot. Guess that doesn't matter too much when there's work to be done and ground to cover
Dan Sneyd We cut 4 of the six strings off the bales and dispose of them back at the factory the other two keep the bale together so they are able to be loaded then get wrapped round the tumblers that crush the bale the tumblers get cut out at end of every day :) sometimes twice a day
Ronan Healy Is sort of acts as hibernation in a way, instead of harvesting them all at once, and lowering the price, we can leave them dormant until there is more of a demand, so ie in winter more people have roasts, so the demand goes up and there isn't an abundance of carrots
well OLF is coming over to buy trackers cheap because of brexit & the pound falling, well now the man he voted in won (Trump) the dollar has fallen, may turn out to be a bad trip after all for OLF!
that is a cool way to cover crops for winter... Cant wait to see a video with the three of you guys when wes gets there..

The straw serves as a blanket during the winter to protect the carrots from freezing ;)
Brilliant George, really interesting. Hopefully the Pandy Man should be with you soon, he got what he wanted with his vote !!!
Thanks for coming down George was great to meet you mate and will keep in touch gotta say what an AWSOME video :)
This is really interesting to see, never seen this here in the Netherlands and maybe a good idea for the farmers here.

Well done George
Carrots must be expensive there.
Is guess it pays well. Nice job.
We are seeing JCB s here in the states now a lot. Thanks
Are you ready for your guest to arrive? You farmers will have lots of fun and good old stories to tell.
hes been and gone..your a bit slow
why are you putting straw on the carrots?? never seen this done before.. but great video and class drone footage 👌
Excellent video. 3 loaders seem a little OTT!!
awesome video
vary interesting!! Beautiful country u have their!!!
That straw spreader would be ideal for littering cattle and pigs if you had big covered yards
Nice video George
Amazing!
Do you like the 4220? : D
Great vid. what happens to the twine?
Dan Sneyd you can see a big pile of twine on the ground a 2:30.
Dan Sneyd

Great mate
Good video
Nice vid old boy 👌👌👌
Greath work
good dry ground there sir
what happens to the straw after great vid
Why were you putting shredded bales in the field??
good old Bartlet
George what height did you go with the drone for the over head shots?
Dose it shred the strings on the bales too
How many days does this material stay on the plant?
very nice 100 Points ;)
what do they with the straw afterwards
Why do you spread straw on the carrots?
never seen anything like that !
What happens the twine ?
nice video more please smile
What's the reason for doing this?
what happens to the string or twine on the bales?
its cut off before
whay will he do with the straw after
It just rots away
I see that the string is still on, does it just wrap around the rotors or does it have a method to take it off before the rotors?
its cut off by hand before
Josh Ower Agri Photography
I thought they did that but if you look the strings are still on and the bales aren't falling to bits.
there packed so tight they wont fall apart and yea it looks like it but there off the bales
Josh Ower Agri Photography
Whenever I cut all the strings on our hesstons they just fall to bits as theres nothing restraining them.
Josh Ower Agri Photography 4 strings cut off 2 left on
How will the carrots be harvested?
with a carrot harvester
You´re so smart!!!
Agrarian Thank you, I like helping people who are not as intelligent as I am.
wont this just rot the carrots?
no helps protect them from frost in the winter
How will they pick it back up?
Fergal Murphy I'd think it would just be chucked out the harvester like leaves off a potato plant
Have a look at the Larrington trailer videos, there's one of a machine for doing just that
Fergal Murphy theres another machine come along and take it off and put it in a trailer then they normally spread it on the fields like manure
David E the people who grows the veg round here have a proper machine to pick it up
why do they spread straw on carrots? as manure, or what?
lluis bruguerajuscafresa protection from the frost
the frodt affects carrots? i did not know that
must be some expensive carrots
no Just normall carrots that will stay in the ground all winter
why do u put straw on the carrots
Ronan Healy

Why do you do this? Isn't it a waste of straw?
no, because they are covering the crop for when frost hits, so that it doesn't get directly hit. this way the plant just gets cold.
what is the cost of those carrots.
memyselfand ifarmer to cheap
what is the point of it
Matthew Edwards to protect the carrots from frost, theres a tilt under all the straw too
what are they covering
Carrots
Well that's easy to see Wes Panzy has never done in a lifetime what George does in a day.
what on earth are you bullshitting about you idiot
well OLF is coming over to buy trackers cheap because of brexit & the pound falling, well now the man he voted in won (Trump) the dollar has fallen, may turn out to be a bad trip after all for OLF!
hes already been and gone..your a bit slow
The jcb 4000 is rubbish
Why is this done ? Is it only done on carrots ?
Itsnickooooooo It is the same as spreading dung on stubble i would imagen
Eoghan French Ahhh right and it's just left over winter to decompose ?
It's to keep the carrots fresh in the ground until they are sold rather than storing them
Itsnickooooooo Exactly
Like the description says, frost protection.
